VORWORT
Die Idee für das Buchprojekt „Überseestadt
im Fluss“ ist während des ersten Lockdowns
ab März 2020 nach und nach gewachsen. Die
übliche Routine, mittags essen zu gehen, wurde
ersetzt durch Bewegung an frischer Luft.
Zunächst mit dem Smartphone und später immer
häufiger mit der Kamera. ukzessie fand
eine usdehnung des Fotografierens auf die
Abendstunden und schließlich auf die Wochenenden
statt. Irgendwann war eine Bildausah
orhanden, die die timmung in der
Überseestadt widerspiegelt und den Betrachter
hauptsächlich die Jahre 2020 und 2021 erleben
lässt, ergänzt durch einige wenige Bilder,
die in früheren Jahren aufgenommen wurden.
Die Bremer Überseestadt ist ein faszinierendes
ebiet im konseuenten mbruch om afenreier
zu einer toen reiterung des tadtteis
ae. trukture ergeichbar mit gröeren
auorhaben ie den ondon Dockands
oder der amburger afenit. ier ist die ischung
aus afenanagen, aten acksteingebäuden,
großen Lagerhallen, modernen Bürogebäuden,
dem dumpfen Geruch der Weser
mit einer hnung on eer, dem Diesegeruch
der K, dem Kaffeeröstereiroma und dem
Bierbraugeruch einmalig und unglaublich lebendig.
Mindestens genauso faszinierend wie die Gebäudeiefat
sind die enschen in der berseestadt.
Tagsüber gibt es hier die komplette
andbreite einer agien ansestadt zu sehen
konseratie nzugträger neben zahreichen
adfahrerinnen an der chachte, Kranfhrer
auf den austeen und am afen, I und
ommerceeute mit martphones und aptops
auf den Bänken und den Wesertower-Terrassen
Seite an Seite mit Touristen, die sich den
tadttei mit cootern erschieen. In den
Abendstunden ist es noch sehr ruhig, was zur
eit or aem an coronabedingten eschränkungen
liegt, aber auch daran, dass der Industrie
und irtschaftsaspekt noch einen gröeren
Platz einnimmt als das Wohn- und Gaststätten-
Angebot. Aber auch das ist im Wandel und es
wird weiter aus- und umgebaut. Insbesondere
auf dem ehemaigen Keoggseände entsteht
ein breites ngebot om ote ber eine
Markthalle bis hin zur Grundschule.
Das Buch lädt ein zum gemütlichen Spaziergang
durch die „Überseestadt im Fluss“. Zunächst
om ofa oder Kaffeetisch aus, um erste
indrcke aufzunehmen, die später bei einem
echten Frischuftesuch ertieft erden können.

The idea for the project gradually grew during
the first lockdown in arch 2020. he usual

area in the process of changing from a haror
area to a great epansion of the cit district
named Walle. It is structurall comparale to
larger construction projects, such as the ondon
ocklands or the amurg warehouse district.

large warehouses, modern office uildings, the
dull smell of the Weser with a hint of the sea, the
smell of diesel trucks, the aroma of coffee roasters,
and the smell of eer rewing is unique

socio-cultural activities, such as the stortelling
festival Feuerspuren, which also takes
place in the erseestadt.

steht aber wie ein neutraler Beobachter am Rand
und wundert sich stumm über den Umbruch.

WERKZEUGE
EQUIPMENT
Es gibt Fotografen, die gerne über Technik reden
und solche, die das Thema überhaupt nicht
mögen. Ich finde es spannend, zu erfahren, mit
welchem Werkzeug ein Fotograf, dessen Bilder
ich mag, unterwegs ist. Vielleicht gibt es mir
einen Anstoß, über mein eigenes Werkzeug
nachzudenken und etwas zu verändern.
Die Bilder in der Überseestadt sind mit einem
Mix an Kameras entstanden. Die meisten der
Street-Aufnahmen habe ich mit der Olympus
Pen-F und einem 35 mm und 90 mm (Kleinbild-
Äquivalent) Objektiv gemacht, weil sie klein
und unauffällig ist und einen für den Zweck
„Street“ schnellen, treffsichern Autofokus hat.
Wenn es mehr um das Gebäude oder die
freien Flächen ging, war ich mit der Fuji XT-2
mit einem Standard-Zoom-Objektiv 28 – 85mm
(Kleinbild-Äquivalent) unterwegs. Die Fuji liegt
schwerer in der Hand und zwingt zu mehr Ruhe
und Ausgewogenheit, was für ruhige Szenen
oder eben Gebäude gut passt. Nicht zuletzt
ist das Smartphone mein ständiger Begleiter.
Auch wenn es einmal nicht geplant war, Bilder
zu machen, sind mit dem Smartphone spontane
Aufnahmen möglich. Und inzwischen sind
die Bilder auch von hoher Qualität. Das Fotografieren
an sich macht aber mit einer Kamera
mehr Spaß, da sich das Smartphone nicht gut
halten lässt. So sitzt der Auslöser immer da,
wo man ihn nicht braucht, und es kommt beim
Fotografieren häufig zu komischen Verrenkungen.
Generell ist es aber so, wie Eliott Erwitt sagt:
„Die beste Kamera ist gerade die, die man dabei
hat.“
There are photographers who like to talk about
technology, and some who hate gear discussion.
When I like a photographer’s work, I find it
exciting to learn about the equipment that was
used. Perhaps it makes me think about my own
equipment and inspires me to change something.
The pictures in the Überseestadt were made
with a variety of cameras. I made most of the
street shots with an Olympus Pen-F and a
35 mm and a 90 mm (full frame equivalent) lens
because it is small and inconspicuous and has
a fast, accurate autofocus for street use. When
I wanted to focus more on the buildings or the
empty spaces, I used the Fuji XT-2 with a standard
zoom lens 28-85 mm (full-frame equivalent).
Because the Fuji is heavier in the hand, it
forces you to rest and balance, which is good
for quiet scenes or buildings. Last but not least,
the smartphone is a constant companion. There
is always a chance to take a picture with the
smartphone, especially unplanned pictures.
Nevertheless, the pictures are also of high quality.
However, taking photos with a camera is
more fun because the smartphone is not easy
to hold. The shutter button is placed where you
don’t need it, which leads often to strange contortions
while taking pictures.
Ultimately, however, what Eliott Erwitt says remains
true: “The best camera is the one that you
have with you.“
