SOCIETY Silhouette International: Klare Sicht Voraus Seit 57 Jahren überzeugt der österreichische Premiumbrillenhersteller Silhouette International mit Firmensitz in Linz durch präzise Handarbeit, Qualität und hochwertiges Design. „Mehr als nur einen Sehbehelf“ wollten Anneliese und Arnold Schmied erschaffen, als sie 1964 das Fundament für die Marke Silhouette legten. Dabei standen präzise Handarbeit, höchste Qualität und hochwertiges Design stets im Fokus. Heute, 57 Jahre später, werden die Brillen von Silhouette International in über 100 verschiedenen Ländern verkauft. Eine schmale carré-förmige Brille war die erste, die 1964 das Werk in Linz verließ und bald den Weg zu internationalem Erfolg ebnete. In den 70er Jahren waren es auffällige Designs, die weltweit Aufmerksamkeit erregten, darunter vor allem die „Futura“. Zur gleichen Zeit entstand überdies die erste randlose Brille von Silhouette. „Unsere Produkte stehen für innovatives Design, das stets dem Zeitgeist entspricht. Wir folgen beim Design keinen kurzfristigen, schnelllebigen Modetrends. Es geht vielmehr darum, ein Maximum an Qualität zu erzielen, um auf die Bedürfnisse unserer Kunden bestmöglich eingehen zu können“, betont CMO Michael Schmied im Interview mit SOCIETY. Einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Identität der Marke trug die 2020 verstorbene Designerin Dora Demmel, die von Beginn an Teil des Familienunternehmens war. Heute erarbeitet ein internationales Team an Designern etwa 3000 Brillenentwürfe pro Jahr. „Eine Silhouette zu tragen, bedeutet Leichtigkeit zu spüren. Keine Brille ist leichter, keine komfortabler als eine Silhouette“, so Schmied weiter. Das Bekenntnis zu „Made in Austria“ und dem Standort Linz spielt für das international agierende Unternehmen, das nach wie vor in Familienbesitz ist, eine wesentliche Rolle. HANDARBEIT UND INNOVATION In einer Silhouette Metallbrille stecken durchschnittlich etwa 80 Prozent Handarbeit, bis zu 264 hoch präzise Schritte und über 100 Qualitätskontrollen ehe sie das Werk in Linz verlässt. Täglich werden so 9000 Brillen gefertigt, insgesamt beschäftigt das Unternehmen weltweit 1400 MitarbeiterInnen. Auch in Sachen Nachhaltigkeit ist Silhouette Pionier: im 3D-Druckverfahren mit 100% biobasiertem Material konnte NEUBAU EYEWEAR, die urbane und nachhaltige Marke von Silhouette International, erstmals eine komplett nachhaltige Brille produzieren. „Als internationaler Premiumbrillenhersteller wollen wir einen wertvollen Beitrag für eine stabile Wirtschaft und für die Zukunft unserer Umwelt leisten“, so der CMO. Silhouette International ist seit 2020 offizieller Klimabündnis-Betrieb und verwendet zu 100 % umweltfreundlichen Strom. Neben Nachhaltigkeit hat sich das Unternehmen seit jeher der Innovation und dem Fortschritt verschrieben. 1983 etwa wurde der Kunststoff SPX® entwickelt, der komplett neue Dimensionen im Brillendesign eröffnete und gleichzeitig auch das Zeitalter der Leichtigkeit einläutete. 1999 folgte die Entwicklung der Silhouette Titan Minimal Art, einer schrauben- und scharnierlosen Brille, die nur 1,8 Gramm wiegt und den internationalen Brillenmarkt revolutionierte. Seit 2000 ist die Titan Minimal Art von Silhouette sogar für die Raumfahrt zertifiziert. Vor fünf Jahren entstand dann mit NEUBAU EYEWEAR eine urbane und nachhaltige Marke.
