Für die menschliche Ernährung können Insekten als wertvolle Eiweißquelle
eine wichtige Alternative für die Zukunft sein.

können Leguminosen eine ressourcen -
schonendere Alternative zu importiertem Soja
sein. Im Humanbereich gibt es auch bereits viele
verschiedene Nutzungsmöglichkeiten.
Ein ganz spannender Ansatz ist die Nutzung von
Insektenproteinen. So könnten die Larven der sogenannten
„Schwarzen Soldatenfliege“ (Hermetia
illucens) eine alternative hochwertige Eiweißquelle
insbesondere für Nutztiere sein. Für die mensch -
liche Ernährung eignen sich andere Insekten wie
Grillen und Mehlwürmer. Daran wird bereits intensiv
geforscht und erste Unternehmen sind dabei,
diesen Ansatz auf wirtschaftliche Beine zu stellen.
Außerdem brauchen Insekten, die als Lebens -
mittel angeboten werden, in der EU noch eine
spezielle Zulassung. Daran wird aber gearbeitet.
Hat der Standort MV Vorteile gegenüber
anderen Regionen in Deutschland? Wo liegen
die besonderen Stärken bzw. Schwerpunkte?
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ist ein Flächen- und
Agrarland. Das sind natürlich gute Voraussetzun-

On the one hand, the production of animal protein
is very complicated and expensive, and on the
other hand we also have to consider the inter -
national debate on climate protection. Plant-based
protein offers clear advantages in terms of envi -
ronmentally-friendly production. Furthermore,
healthy diets are another important aspect. Particularly
in terms of preventive health care, it makes
far more sense to use plant-based protein instead
of animal protein.
What new products and production techniques
will we be seeing here?
There will of course be a particular focus on leguminous
species, in other words, pulses. In the
framework of the national Lupin Network, work
has been in progress over a five year period to look
at the cultivation and processing of lupins for
animal and human nutrition. Leguminous species
could be a more environmentally friendly alter -
native for animal nutrition than importing soya.
There are also many different possibilities for
human usage.
