Auf den über 1.000 Quadratmetern Ausstellungsfläche gibt es 1.000 Jahre Geschichte
zu entdecken. Darunter sind viele für das Wersenfelder Land traditionelle Möbel
und Gegenstände. So zum Beispiel das Tölzer Schlafzimmer und die Werdenfelser
Bauernstube. In der Mitte: das originale Zugspitzkreuz von 1851.
There’s more to a holiday in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen than winter sports
and hiking. You can also come along and
explore our culture at the Museum Werdenfels,
which has a separate room dedicated
to the Zugspitze with the original summit
cross from 1851. One particular highlight:
visitors can gaze through a gable window
at the very top of the building for a perfect
view of the summit of the Zugspitze. Over
21 rooms, the museum presents exhibits
from the entire Werdenfels district,
including interiors with original furniture,
a collection of traditional costumes and
jewellery, carnival costumes and masks,
Christmas cribs, religious folk art, and works
by regional artists. The current special
exhibition “From Stone Axe to Oyster Shell”
shows prehistoric and early historical finds,
such as the rib of a woolly mammoth. The
oysters in the name come from Werdenfels
Castle and bear witness to the glamorous
eating habits of its former inhabitants.
