Editorial
Liebe Leser und Leserinnen der F-times,
den ersten Teil dieser Ausgabe widmen wir
unserem erfolgreichen Auftritt auf der ILA
Berlin Air Show 2012. Auch in diesem Jahr
war FTI mit zwei Ständen vertreten. Unsere
schönsten ILA-Momente finden Sie ab Seite 4.
Die ILA diente nicht nur dem Sehen und gesehen
werden, sondern bot für uns auch die
Möglichkeit, neue Kooperationen zu schließen
und zu festigen. Wie wir in Zukunft mit
den Firmen NEXEYA und asscom zusammenarbeiten,
lesen Sie auf den Seiten 8 und 9.
Im Rahmen eines weiteren spannenden Kooperationsprojektes
konnten wir auf unserem
Stand in Halle zwei eine Neuheit in der Telemedizin
vorstellen. Die gemeinsam mit der
Firma GHC Global Health Care GmbH entwickelte
Software AescuLink und das dazugehörige
AescuPad ermöglichen in medizinischen
Notfällen an Bord eines Flugzeuges eine sofortige
ärztliche Hilfe. Jederzeit, weltweit. Der
Artikel auf Seite 10 verrät mehr dazu.
Am Stand in Halle 3 konnten wir eindrucksvoll
die Ergebnisse des EU-geförderten Projektes
BreTeCe vermitteln. Dennis Gerke vom Projektpartner
BIBA gibt auf Seite 11 einen Einblick
in die BreTeCe-Präsentation auf der ILA.
Dem Forschungsprojekt Clean Sky wurde
auf der ILA eine ganze Veranstaltung gewidmet,
zu der auch wir geladen waren. Wie FTI
mit dem Nachweis kleinster Veränderungen
große Ergebnisse erzielt und zum Erfolg des
Projektes beiträgt, stellt Ute Franke in ihrem
Statusbericht auf Seite 12 dar.
Seit der letzten F-times Ausgabe haben wir
an verschiedenen Messen teilgenommen und
Vertreter aus Politik und Wirtschaft bei uns
begrüßt (Seite 14). Aber auch außerhalb des
beruflichen Spielfeldes waren unsere Kollegen
aktiv. Wie spannend der diesjährige Brandenburg-Cup
für uns war und warum wir die
neu eingeführte Frauenquote sehr begrüßen,
verrät Ihnen Jessica Lormes im Artikel „Heißer
Asphalt“.

Dear F-times reader,
The first part of this F-Times edition is dedicated
to our successful appearance at ILA Berlin
Air Show 2012. FTI was representing itself
with two booths once again this year. Our
best ILA moments can be found from page 4.
“See and be seen“ was not the only purpose
of the ILA. The trade show was a possibility to
find and cement new cooperation. On page 8
and 9 you can find out all about how we will
work together with the companies NEXEYA
and asscom in the future.
As part of another exiting cooperative project,
we were able to present a novelty in the field
of telemedicine at our booth in hall 2. With
the company GHC - Global Health Care, we
jointly developed the software AescuLink and
the appropriate AescuPad enabling immediate
medical assistance in medical emergencies
while airborne, anytime, worldwide. The
article on page 10 reveals more information
about it.
At our booth in hall 3, we presented the impressive
results of our EU-funded project
BreTeCe. Dennis Gerke from our project partner
BIBA gives us insights into the BreTeCe
presentation at ILA - Berlin Air Show 2012.
During this years ILA an event related to the
research project clean sky was held, we attended.
Ute Franke will show us, in a status
report on page 12, how FTI contributes to the
success of the project by achieving significant
success through proving smallest changes.
Since F-Times last edition, we took part in several
fairs and welcomed representatives of
industry and politics at our headquarters (p.
14). But even outside the professional fields,
our colleagues had been active. How exiting
this year’s “Brandenburg-Cup” was and why
we welcomed the newly introduced quota of
women, Jessica Lormes will tell you with her
article “Hot Wheels”.

Besuch des Ministerpräsidenten
Platzeck
Das erste Highlight der ILA 2012 war der Besuch
des Ministerpräsidenten des Landes
Brandenburg, Herrn Platzeck. Nur wenige
Minuten nach der offiziellen Eröffnung der
Messe sorgte sein 10-minütiger Besuch für
reichlich Wirbel an unserem Stand. FTI Geschäftsführer
Michael Weisel und Peter Hufnagl
(Geschäftsführer GHC) nutzten die Gelegenheit
für ein persönliches Gespräch mit
dem Ministerpräsidenten.
Teamarbeit
Über 30 Mitarbeiter sorgten mit tatkräftiger
Unterstützung vor, während und nach der ILA
für einen reibungslosen Ablauf. Ob im Labor,
im Büro oder direkt am Stand, unser Team
glänzte in allen Lagen. Mit Einfallsreichtum
und Kompetenz ermöglichten sie einen gelungenen
Auftritt für die FTI Group und eine
erfolgreiche ILA 2012. Vielen Dank für Euren
Einsatz!
Firmenpräsentation im Rahmen
der Young Professionals Aerospace
Am frühen Nachmittag des ersten ILA-Tages
nutzen Andreas van Hove und Marny Witthuhn
die Gelegenheit, die FTI Group jungen
Studenten der TH Wildau und der EUROAVIA
(European Association of Aerospace Students)
vorzustellen. Die Plattform Young Professionals
Aerospace hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt,
den Dialog zwischen Studierenden und Unternehmen
zu fördern. In der kommenden Veranstaltung
am 17. Oktober 2012 im Zentrum
für Luft- und Raumfahrt III, Schmiedestr. 2 in
Wildau präsentiert FTI das spannende EU-
Forschungsprojekt Clean Sky. Anschließend
besteht in lockerer Runde die Möglichkeit,
Fragen rund um das Arbeiten bei FTI zu stellen.
Studierende und Absolventen sind dazu
herzlich eingeladen! Weitere Informationen
unter www.wfg-lds.de.
Auch im Rahmen der AEROTOURS fanden sich
interessierte Studenten an den FTI-Ständen in
Halle 2 und 3 ein.
Der rbb zu Gast bei uns
Kurz vor Ende des ersten, aufregenden ILA-
Tages war der Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg
zu Gast an unserem Stand in Halle 2, oder
waren wir zu Gast beim rbb? Michael Weisel
und Peter Hufnagl standen Rede und Antwort
und stellten den Zuschauern der Sendung
„Brandenburg Aktuell“, unser Unternehmen
vor. Die Ausstrahlung erfolgte noch am selben
Abend.
Arbeitskreis Luftfahrttechnisches
Handbuch (LTH) zu Gast bei FTI
Anlässlich der ILA war der Arbeitskreis Luftfahrttechnisches
Handbuch dieses mal bei FTI
und der Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft
Dahme Spreewald in Wildau zu Gast. Nach
einem erfolgreichen Arbeitskreis-Meeting
nutzten die Teilnehmer die Gelegenheit für
einen ILA-Besuch.
Am BreTeCe-Stand erlebte die Gruppe die
Premiere der Live-Schaltung von der ILA nach
Bremen und die damit verbundene Fernsteuerung
des in Bremen aufgebauten Testrigs
von unserem ILA-Stand aus. Mehr zum Thema

BreTeCe-Standeröffnung durch Wirtschaftssenator
Martin Günthner
Der erste Höhepunkt an unserem BreTeCe-Stand in Halle 3 war die
offizielle Standeröffnung durch den Senator für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und
Häfen der Freien Hansestadt Bremen, Martin Günthner. Der Senator
ließ sich ausführlich Ziele, Hintergründe und Funktionsweisen unseres
EU-geförderten Gemeinschaftsprojektes BreTeCe (Bremen Technology
Center) erklären. Mit dem Prinzip des vernetzten Testens wird es
in Zukunft u.a. möglich sein, Teststände standortübergreifend zu
bedienen, was am BreTeCe-Stand eindrucksvoll demonstriert wurde. Im
Rahmen einer Live-Schaltung startete der Senator von der ILA aus ein
Demonstrations-Testrig im Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik
(BIBA) in Bremen und eröffnete somit auch offiziell den Stand.
Besuch des Wirtschaftsministers Ralf Christoffers
Am zweiten Tag der ILA begrüßten wir den Minister für Wirtschaft und
Europaangelegenheiten des Landes Brandenburg, Ralf Christoffers an
unserem Stand in Halle 2. Hier stellten wir dem Minister die neuesten
Möglichkeiten der Telemedizin vor und präsentierten mit GHC unsere Produktlösung
für medizinische Notfälle in der Luft.

Doppelte Power auf der ILA - FTI
präsentierte sich in zwei Hallen
FTI hat sich auch in diesem Jahr in bewährter
Weise wieder für die Messeteilnahme innerhalb
von Gemeinschaftsständen entschieden.
So waren wir in Halle 3 Bestandteil des
großen Bremen-Hamburg-Standes. In Halle 2
integrierten wir uns in den Stand der Zukunftsagentur
Brandenburg (ZAB).
Neben dem neuen telemedizinischen Gemeinschaftsprojekt
mit der Firma GHC präsentierten
wir in Halle 2 unsere Leistungen
im Bereich Kamerasysteme. Durch die Videoinstallation
wurde der Unterschied zwischen
Kameras mit und ohne FTI-Software schnell
deutlich. Aber auch unsere weiteren Kompetenzen,
z.B. im Bereich Videomesstechnologie
oder UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) wurden
in den zahlreichen Gesprächen thematisiert.
Der Auftritt im Rahmen des Bremen-Standes
in Halle 3 stand ganz im Zeichen des Gemeinschaftsprojektes
BreTeCe (siehe S. 11). Aber
auch die FTI-Testsystemlösungen der Produktreihe
YAVE wurden dem interessierten Publikum
vorgestellt. Insgesamt also ein gelungener
und erfolgreicher Auftritt!
Das ist doch…
unser Kamerasystem!
Ganz stolz waren wir beim Anblick des Airbus
A310, in dem das von FTI entwickelte Kamerasystem
RSS (Receiver Surveillance System)
zur Überwachung der Luftbetankung verbaut
ist. Die Gelegenheit, das System tatsächlich
am Flieger zu sehen, bietet sich auch für FTI-
Mitarbeiter nicht oft, sodass wir ganz genau
hingeschaut haben! Auch die Kollegen der
Bundeswehr freuten sich über den Besuch
von FTI und empfingen uns sehr freundlich.
Das System ermöglicht dem Fuel Operator bei
Betankungsvorgängen die einwandfreie Sicht
unter allen Wetter- und Lichtverhältnissen.
An Board der „August Euler“ bewährt es sich
täglich im Dienst der Bundeswehr. Das Flugprogramm
bot noch ein weiteres Highlight,
denn der Airbus A310 konnte nicht nur am
Boden, sondern auch in Aktion am Himmel
bestaunt werden.
FTI sponsert Schulklasse aus
Bremen
FTI engagierte sich auch aktiv für den Nachwuchs
und ermöglichte einer Schulklasse aus
Bremen vom gymnasialen Oberstufenprofil
Luft- und Raumfahrt die Fahrt nach Berlin und
den Besuch der ILA. Die Schülerinnen und
Schüler haben den vorletzten Messetag in
voller Länge dazu genutzt, die unzähligen Eindrücke
und Informationen aufzunehmen. Neben
dem Erlebnis, eine große Fachmesse zum
Thema Luft- und Raumfahrt besucht zu haben,
stellte natürlich besonders die Flugshow
für die Schülerinnen und Schüler ein Highlight
dar. Der Besuch war aber nicht nur Spaß. Die
Schüler hatten den Arbeitsauftrag, vorgegebene
Ausstellungsschwerpunkte in bewegten
Bildern zu dokumentieren. Hierzu gehörten
z.B. Themen wie „Unbemannter Flug“, „Deutsche
Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie“ oder
„Space Transport“. Die einzelnen Filmbeiträge
werden anschließend in englischer Sprache
vertont und als DVD präsentiert. Wir sind gespannt
auf das Ergebnis!

FTI und asscom schließen
Partnerschaftsvertrag
Am 28.6.2012 haben die Geschäftsführer Michael
Weisel (FTI) und Peter Wiggers (asscom)
die Partnerschaft der beiden Unternehmen
besiegelt. Im Rahmen des Partnerschaftsvertrages
erhält FTI zukünftig professionelle
Unterstützung durch das in Dubai ansässige
asscom Service Center in den Bereichen Reparaturservice,
Ersatzteilversorgung, Kundenbetreuung,
Training, Marketing und On-Site-
Support in den Regionen Middle-East, Afrika
und Asien.

gegeben, dass die Test und Qualifikationsanlagen
SYSTeam von nun an standardmäßig
zusammen mit dem YAVE-ITE angeboten
werden. Damit ist NEXEYA nach Concurrent,
TechSAT und RST die 4. Firma, die auf die bewährte
Verifikationsplattform YAVE-ITE setzen.
NEXEYA SYSTEMS gehört zu dem Industrieunternehmen
NEXEYA, welches in den Bereichen
Verteidigung, Luftfahrt und Transport agiert.
NEXEYA SYSTEMS entwickelt, testet, produziert
und wartet kundenspezifische, missionskritische
Geräte sowie Systeme für eine große
Vielfalt von Anwendungen. Dabei ist NEXEYA

Revolution in der Telemedizin -
gelungener Auftakt auf der ILA
Sebastian König, GHC
FTI konnte erstmalig die, gemeinsam mit der
Firma GHC - Global Health Care entwickelte,
telemedizinische Lösung für medizinische
Notfälle in der Luft präsentieren.
Am Gemeinschaftsstand der Zukunftsagentur
Brandenburg (ZAB) präsentierten Olaf
Fleischhauer, Marc Müller, Peter Hufnagl,
Sebastian König und Marcus Leffler die voll
funktionsfähigen Prototypen des AescuLink
/ AescuPad und der dazugehörigen Gegenstelle
(AescuLink Virtual Emergency Room).
Eine mit echter Medizinsensorik „verkabelte“
Schaufensterpuppe simulierte dabei den Patienten.
Das Gerät und die integrierte Software
ermöglichen im Notfall jederzeit, weltweit
den Kontakt zu einem Arzt.
Der integrierte Meetingbereich des Standes
war über den gesamten Messezeitraum stark
frequentiert und viele interessierte Firmen-
vertreter und Geschäftskunden nahmen die
Chance war, sich die Funktionsweisen von AescuLink
erläutern zu lassen. Hier konnte das
GHC-Team wichtige Kontakte gewinnen, die
zum Aufbau eines langfristigen Netzwerkes
und einer erfolgreichen Markteinführung des
Produktes unerlässlich sind.
Die ansprechende Präsentation von GHC auf
der ILA und die Neuheit des Produktes sorgten
für ein hohes Maß an Aufmerksamkeit, auch
bei Vertretern aus Politik und Medien. U.a.
konnten wir Matthias Platzeck, Ministerpräsident
des Landes Brandenburg, Ralf Christoffers,
Wirtschaftsministers des Landes Brandenburg
sowie ein Kamerateam des Rundfunk
Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) am GHC-Stand
begrüßen. Besonders Wirtschaftsminister
Christoffers zeigte sich in einem persönlichen
Gespräch höchst interessiert und stellte dem
Projekt ein sehr gutes Zeugnis aus.
BreTeCe auf der ILA Berlin Airshow

Nach 2010 war das Bremen Technology Center
(BreTeCe) 2012 erneut auf der ILA Berlin
Air Show auf dem Gemeinschaftsstand der
Länder Bremen und Hamburg als Aussteller
vertreten. Die ILA fand in diesem Jahr erstmals
auf dem Gelände des neuen Großflughafens
Berlin Brandenburg statt. BreTeCe stellte
innovative Lösungen für das effiziente Testen
mechatronischer Systeme vor. Diese wurden
mittels verschiedener Demonstratoren dem
fachkundigen Publikum präsentiert.
Die gezeigten Lösungen umfassten die Fast-
WAN-Vernetzungstechnologie zur temporären
Zusammenschaltung physisch verteilter
Prüfstände, ein Software-Werkzeug zur methodengestützten
Generierung von Testfällen
sowie einen generischen Systemsimulator
zum frühzeitigen Testen von Steuergeräten.
Die Funktionalität des generischen Systemsimulators
wurde mittels eines inversen Pendels
veranschaulicht, dass beispielhaft als
Prüfling bzw. System Under Test (SUT) in den
Simulator eingebettet wurde.
Auch in diesem Jahr gelang es dem Projektkonsortium
bestehend aus den Partnern FTI
Technologies GmbH, ExxpertSystems GmbH
und BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und
Logistik GmbH, hochrangige Gäste aus Politik
und Wirtschaft auf dem Gemeinschaftsstand
zu begrüßen. Hervorzuheben sind insbeson-
dere die Besuche von Herrn Martin Günthner,
Senator für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Häfen der
Freien Hansestadt Bremen sowie Herrn Günther
Butschek, Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung
der Airbus Operations GmbH. Herr
Senator Günthner konnte sogar in ein Demonstrationsszenario
aktiv eingebunden werden:

Wie lassen sich minimale
Beeinträchtigungen einer
Flügeloberfläche messen?
Laminare Strömung ist eine Kerntechnologie
um Luftwiderstände und damit den Treibstoffverbrauch
von Flugzeugen zu senken.
Sie wird den ökologischen Fußabdruck der
kommerziellen Luftfahrt reduzieren. Die Europäische
Kommission hat deshalb das Smart
Fixed Wing Aircraft (SFWA) Projekt, als Teil
des Forschungsprojektes Clean Sky, initialisiert,
in dem ein Konsortium aus Luftfahrtunternehmen
(u.a. Airbus, Saab, GKN) einen
neuen laminaren Flügel entwickelt hat. Dessen
Anwendung in der kommerziellen Luftfahrt
erfordert einen sehr hohen Standard in
der Flügelherstellung und ein Minimum an
Energieverlust während des Flugbetriebes.
Clean Sky – Call7 forderte eine Unterstützung
dieses Projektes durch die Industrie mittels
eines Messsystems, das jede Deformation des
laminaren Flügelprofils im Flug aufspürt. Jede
links:
Beispiel Schuppengröße eines Schmetterlings
Störgröße (Welligkeit, Absätze, Lücken, Insektenrückstände)
könnte einen Übergang in die
Grenzschicht für Turbulenzen auslösen und
damit die Vorteile der laminaren Strömung
aufheben. Um diese Prinzipien zu testen werden
die äußeren neun Meter eines Flügels des
High Speed Flight Demonstrators an einem
Airbus A340-400 mit dem neuen laminaren
Profil ersetzt.
Die Herausforderung:
Ermittlung von Veränderungen
der Flügeloberfläche bis zu 20
Mikrometer während des Fluges
Exakte Beeinträchtigungen der Flügeloberfläche
sollten auch während des Fluges in großer
Höhe und bei Überschallgeschwindigkeit
messbar sein. Die Messmethode sollte dabei
das Flugverhalten des Flügels nicht beeinträchtigen.
Für genau diesen Zweck wird die
FTI Wing Reflectometry Methode entwickelt:
um alle Deformationen der laminaren Flügeloberfläche
in der Luft aufzuspüren.
Die Idee:
Von der Physik zur Optik zur
Reflektometrie
Eine Skyline reflektiert auf der glatten Wasseroberfläche,
wer würde diese Aussicht
nicht bewundern? Reflektometrie geht noch
einen Schritt weiter. Reflektometrie ist eine
optische Messmethode, die die Berechnung
einer reflektierenden Oberfläche mittels der
Deformation auf einem vorab bekannten reflektierten
Muster erlaubt.
Die Lösung:
Nahezu tangentiale Reflektometrie
Die Reflektometrie-Messung basiert auf der
Verzerrung eines Musters, nachdem fast tangentiale
Reflektionen auf der Oberfläche beobachtet
wurden. Der Aufbau erlaubt eine
Installation am Flugzeug, ohne seine aerodynamischen
Eigenschaften zu beeinträchtigen.
Die geometrischen Grenzen der Installation
bedeuten zusätzliche Herausforderungen für
das Messsystem, zum Beispiel die Positio-
nierung des Grafikmusters. Kamera und Beleuchtung
erfordern eine Messung unter sehr
flachem Einfallswinkel. FTI nutzt dafür ein
Infrarotblitz-System um weitere Einschränkungen
zu überwinden, beispielsweise helles
Sonnenlicht, hoch reflektierende Schemen
oder Vibrationen.
Das Reflektometrie-Projekt:
Bewährtes Konzept
Das Konzept wurde während zwei Test Kampagnen
bei Airbus Toulouse erprobt. Darüber
hinaus wurde ein maßstabsgetreues Flügel
Mock Up, am Hauptsitz von FTI in Wildau,
errichtet. Die Testergebnisse bewiesen, dass
Reflektometrie nicht nur eine praktikable Lösung
ist, sondern darüber hinaus eine exakte
Messung, bis zu 0,02mm erlaubt.
Herausforderungen des Projektes
Die Oberfläche des neuen laminaren Flügels
hat eine spezielle Krümmung und nur begrenzten
Platz, um die Reflektometriekomponenten
zu integrieren (Kamera, Grafikmuster,
Beleuchtungseinrichtung). Darüber hinaus
gibt es Anforderungen an die Flugzeuglackierungen.
Beide Faktoren bedeuten zusätzliche
Herausforderungen für die Anwendung der
Reflektometrie. Bisher hat das Projekt sich auf
diese Aufgaben fokussiert.
Projektstatus
Der Aufbau und die Anordnung der Systemkomponenten
sind nahezu abgeschlossen.
Die zentrale Komponente des Reflektometriesystems
ist die Software zur Bilderkennung
und -bearbeitung. Das originalgetreue Mock
Up bei FTI hat sich als großer Vorteil erwiesen,
da es Tests zu einem sehr frühen Stadium
erlaubte.
Nächste Schritte
Der erste Flug des High Speed Demonstrators
ist für 2014 geplant.

In der ersten Jahreshälfte hatte FTI gleich
zweimal die Ehre, hochkarätigen Gästen einen
Einblick in die Arbeit von FTI zu geben.
Am Mittwoch, den 28. März 2012, empfing
Michael Wesner, Chief Financial Officer der
FTI Group, Carl-Heinz Klinkmüller, Baudezernent
des Landkreises und Wolfgang Schmidt,
Wirtschaftsdezernent LDS, im Hauptsitz von
FTI in Wildau. Herr Wesner stellte den Kommunalpolitikern
unser Unternehmen und
markante Meilensteine unserer Entwicklung
vor. In einer Führung durch die firmeneigenen
Büroräume ließen sich, anhand verschiedener
Stationen, bisherige und derzeitige
Produktentwicklungen und Projekte sehr gut

bildete ein Rundgang durch die Werkhalle von
FTI. Hier werden momentan an einem Flügelmodell
Kameratests für das EU-Forschungsprojekt
CleanSky durchgeführt.
Am Donnerstag, den 3. Mai 2012 besuchte
der Europaabgeordnete Dr. Christian Ehler
das Luft- und Raumfahrtzentrum Schönefelder
Kreuz, in dem auch FTI seinen Hauptsitz
hat. Björn Lakenmacher, Landtagsabgeordneter
Brandenburg, und Mark Scheiner,
CDU Wildau, begleiteten den Europaabgeordneten.
Nach einer Gesprächsrunde mit
dem Geschäftsführer der Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft
Dahme-Spreewald, Herrn
Gerhard Janßen, führte Michael Wesner die
Gäste durch die Räume der FTI Group. Er stellte
ihnen das Produktportfolio und die Bandbreite
des Projektgeschäftes vor. Ute Franke,
Projektmanager CleanSky, erläuterte den Besuchern
im Anschluss, am Beispiel des Flügel
Mock Ups in unserer Werkhalle, den Beitrag
von FTI am Projekt CleanSky (S. 12).

Young Professionals Aerospace
Am Mittwoch, den 14. März 2012, fand in den
Konferenzräumen des Zentrums für Luft- und
Raumfahrt (ZLR) III, Sitz der FTI Group, die
Auftaktveranstaltung der Young Professionals
Aerospace statt. Die Veranstaltungsreihe wird
unter anderem von der Technischen Hochschule
Wildau und dem ZLR organisiert und
richtet sich an Studenten, Absolventen und
junge Fachkräfte aus dem Bereich Luft- und
Raumfahrt. Regional ansässige Firmen stellen
sich den interessierten Besuchern vor und
bieten die Möglichkeit zum anschließenden
Networking. Dabei wollen sie sich mit Studierenden
austauschen, ihre Forschungs- und
Entwicklungsprojekte vorstellen und natürlich
neugierig machen, um zukünftige Nachwuchskräfte
zu gewinnen.
Die FTI Group nahm an der Auftaktveranstaltung
teil und wird sich am 17. Oktober 2012
mit einer Firmenpräsentation als potenzieller
Arbeitgeber den Besuchern vorstellen. Weitere

BER-Recruiting-Countdown
Am Mittwoch, den 21. März 2012 sowie am
Mittwoch, den 9. Mai 2012 präsentierte sich
die FTI Group als Arbeitgeber beim BER-Recruiting-Countdown
in der Airportworld am
Flughafen Berlin Schönefeld. Unternehmen
aus dem Umfeld des neuen Hauptstadtflughafens
und dem Luftfahrtbereich stellten jeweils
für einen Tag interessierten Besuchern ihre
offenen Stellen vor. Beide Termine waren mit
über 7.000 bzw. 4.000 Besuchern sehr hoch
frequentiert und boten FTI vielversprechende
Anfragen. FTI profitierte insbesondere davon,
dass wir als eine der wenigen Firmen
gezielt nach Fachkräften und akademischem
Nachwuchs im technischen Bereich Ausschau
hielten.

Am Samstag, den 21. Mai 2012 war es mal
wieder so weit. Im Kart Center Spreewaldring
Waldow fand der 6. Brandenburg-Cup statt
und auch in diesem Jahr bewiesen die Fahrer
von FTI als alte Rennhasen ihr Können auf der
Rennstrecke. Der Herausforderung stellten
sich in diesem Jahr Isabel, Marcel, Maurice,
Denis, Nils, Patrick und Christian.
Im Warm-Up konnten wir uns, mit einer Top-
Zeit von 41,06sec, für den Vorrundenlauf die
Startposition 6 sichern. Die gegnerischen Fahrer
schenkten sich nichts auf der Strecke. Um
jede Zehntel-Sekunde wurde gekämpft und
auch in den, seit diesem Jahr erstmalig vorgeschriebenen
Frauenrunden, quietschten die
Reifen. Souverän ergatterte FTI den 9. Platz
im Vorrundenlauf und schaffte es damit ins
begehrte A-Finale.
Die besten 18 Teams kämpften dort um einen
Denis Rentsch beim Fahrerwechsel
Platz auf dem Treppchen. Trotz oder gerade
wegen der vorletzten Startposition Nr. 17
packte unsere Fahrer der Ehrgeiz und schon
10 Minuten später befanden wir uns 4 Plätze
weiter vorn! Auch Isabel, die einzige Frau im
Team, drängelte sich gekonnt an den anderen
Karts auf der Strecke vorbei und machte, trotz
spektakulärem Stunt, mehrere Plätze gut. Jeder
Fahrer fuhr seine persönliche Bestzeit und
mit der Topzeit 40,40sec erbrachte Stammfahrer
Denis, trotz starkem Wind, eine grandiose
Leistung.
Den Wettkampf nahmen alle Beteiligten sehr
ernst. Es flog schon mal der ein oder andere
Reifenstapel und so mancher Fahrer fand sich
außerhalb der Rennstrecke wieder.
Nach spannenden 100 Minuten A-Finale und
zahlreichen Rundenbestzeiten konnte das
Team von FTI spektakuläre 10 Plätze gutmachen
und errang einen wohlverdienten 7.
Platz.
Herzlichen Dank an unser Team für den
Sportsgeist und das Anfeuern. Im nächsten
Jahr peilen wir wieder eine neue Bestzeit an
und mit einer besseren Startposition reicht es
dann vielleicht auch fürs Treppchen!
Unsere Isabel - mehr als eine
Quotenfrau
Seit diesem Jahr ist es Vorschrift: Wer
nicht mindestens eine Frau im Team
vorweisen kann, darf nicht mitfahren.
Wie gut, dass wir Isabel haben!
Bereits im internen Training nahm sie
es mit unseren Jungs auf und bewies,
neben viel Freude am Fahren, auch
großen Ehrgeiz. Ihre Devise: „Bremsen?
Nein, ich nehme bestenfalls den
Fuß vom Gas.“ So fuhr sie auch am Tag
X ein Rennen auf der Überholspur. In
den explizit eingeräumten Damenrunden,
hatten die anderen Mädels keine
Chance und wir waren mächtig stolz
auf unsere kleine Isa. Mit ihrem leichten
Gewicht und gekonntem Fahrverhalten
konnten wir einige Plätze gewinnen.
Auch ein spektakulärer Unfall
(zum Glück ist nichts Ernsthaftes passiert!)
hielt sie nicht davon ab, wieder
ins Kart zu steigen und ihre Runden
ohne Platzverlust zu Ende zu bringen.

Visit of Minister President of the
Land Brandenburg Platzeck
As first highlight of the ILA Berlin Air Show
2012 the Minister President of the Federal
State of Brandenburg, Mr. Platzeck visited our
booth. Shortly after the formal opening of the
exhibition his 10 minute visit made quite an
impression on our booth in hall 2. The managing
director of FTI, Michael Weisel and Peter
Hufnagl from GHC - Global Health Care found
time for a personal talk with Mr. Platzeck.
Teamwork
To ensure a smooth exhibition more then 30
collegues worked before, during and after the
ILA. Due to a high amount of ingenuity and
competence, whether in the laboratory, in
the office or directly at our booths, our team
impressed and was the basis for a successful
appearance during the ILA 2012. Thank you
for your top performance!
Company presentation as part of
the Young Professionals Aerospace
meeting
In the early afternoon of the first ILA day, Andreas
van Hove and Marny Witthuhn took
the opportunity to present the FTI Group to
young students of the University of Applied
Sciences Wildau and of EUROAVIA (European
Association of Aerospace Students). This
event was part of the Young Professionals
Aerospace, supporting the dialogue between
companies and students. The next event
will be on October 17, 2012 at the Zentrum
für Luft- und Raumfahrt III, Schmiedestr. 2 in
Wildau. FTI is using this event to present the
research project Clean Sky. Questions about
working at FTI can be ask afterwards in a relaxed
atmosphere. Students and graduates
are very welcome. For more information, go

technical Aerospace as guests by
FTI
The work group was meeting in at FTI and the
Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Dahme
Spreewald in Wildau on the occasion of the
ILA. The participants used the opportunity to
visit the ILA after the successful meeting.
The group was present as the first live connection
between the ILA and Bremen was
established and the testrig in Bremen was actuated
from our booth at the ILA. For more

Senator for Economic Affairs opens our BreTeCe booth
The official booth opening by the Senator of Economic Affairs of the Free
and Hanseatic City of Bremen, Martin Günthner was the first highlight at
our second booth in hall 3. The senator had a detailed look at the system,
goals and function of our EU-funded joint venture project BreTeCe (Bremen
Technology Center). Using the principle of linked testing, it will be
possible to operate test rigs across locations. Later on, by starting our Test-
Rig at the BIBA in Bremen, he officially opened our booth.
Visit of the Minister of Economic Affairs Ralf Christoffers
The Minister of Economic Affairs of the Federal State of Brandenburg, Ralf
Christoffers, was welcomed at our booth in hall 2 on the second day of
the ILA Berlin Air Show. By showing him the possibilities of telemedicine,
we presented our product solution GHC for all medical incidents during a
flight.

Double the power at the ILA - FTI
is presenting itself in two halls
Due to the good results in the last years, FTI
had chosen to participate again within joint
booths. We were part of the large booth of
Bremen and Hamburg in hall 3. In hall 2 we
were integrated into the booth of the Zukunftsagentur
Brandenburg (ZAB).
Next to the new project related to the telemedicine
with the partner company GHC, we
presented ourself in hall 2 with our services
in the area of camera systems. By using a video
installation, the differences between cameras
with and without FTI software quickly
become clear. Other topics in several conversations
were our other products like video
measurement technology or UAS (Unmanned
Aerial System).
The performance at the Bremen stand in hall
3 was dedicated to the joint project BreTeCe
(see page 11). But the FTI test system solutions
of the product range YAVE were also
presented to the interested public. So overall,
a effective and successful performance!
Isn’t this…
our camera system?
What were we proud to see our developed
camera system RSS (Receiver Surveillance
System) mounted into the Bundeswehr Airbus
A310 to monitor the air-to-air refuelling
process. FTI employees often don’t have
the opportunity to see the system mounted
into the plane, so we did have a closer look.
Colleagues of the Bundeswehr were glad to
meet us and welcomed us very kindly. During
air-to-air refuelling it enables the fuel
operator the clear view in all weather and
light conditions. During everyday service for
the Bundeswehr it proved itself for example
on board of the “August Euler”. The flight
program offered another highlight, the Airbus
A310 could not be admired only on land but
also in action in the sky.
FTI sponsored school class from
Bremen
Supporting the young generation, FTI enabled
a class of a secondary school with an aerospace
profile from Bremen to come to Berlin
and visit the ILA. The students used the full
length of the second last exhibition day to
collect countless impressions and information.
Despite the experience of visiting this
great aerospace trade show, the air show has
been the highlight for the students. But the
ILA wasn’t just about fun. Regarding the key
aspects of the exhibition like “unmanned aerial
systems”, the “German aerospace industry”
or “space transport” the students had to record
these aspects in moving pictures. These
contributions will be translated into English
and will be presented on DVD. We are excited
about the results.

FTI and asscom signed partnership
agreement
The managing directors Michael Weisel (FTI)
and Peter Wiggers (asscom) signed and sealed
the partnership between the two companies
on June 28, 2012. As part of the partnership
agreement, FTI will receive professional support
of the Dubai-based asscom service center
in the areas of repair service, spare parts
supply, customer support, training, marketing
and on-site support in the regions of Middle-
East, Africa and Asia.
A competent local support will be guaranteed
for FTI customers. A reliable and experienced

Revolution in Telemedicine -
Successful Prelude at the ILA

A telemedicine solution for airborne medical
emergencies was presented by FTI and the
project partner company GHC - Global Health
Care at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2012.
A fully functional prototype of the AescuLink /
AescuPad and the corresponding remote station
(AescuLink Virtual Emergency Room) was
presented by Olaf Fleischhauer, Marc Müller,
Peter Hufnagl, Sebastian König and Marcus
Leffler at the joint stand of the Zukunftsagentur
Brandenburg (ZAB). A dummy, equipped
with real medical sensor technology, simulated
the patient.
During the complete trade show period the
integrated meeting area at the stand was
highly frequented. Many interested company
representatives and clients took the
chance to get explanations of the functions
of AescuLink. The GHC-team was able to win
important contacts, essential for building a
long-term network and ensuring a successful
market launch.
Due to the appealing presentation and the
novelty of the product the GHC achieved a
high degree of attention, even from representatives
from politics and media. The Minister
of Economic Affairs, Ralf Christoffers was especially
interested, and in a personal discussion
with Michael Weisel gave the project a
extremely good review. He was as welcome
as the Minister President of the State of Brandenburg,
Matthias Platzeck, or the camera
team of the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg
(rbb).
BreTeCe at the ILA Berlin Air Show

After the year 2010, the Bremen Technology
Center (BreTeCe) once again was present at
the ILA Berlin Air Show as an exhibitor at the
joint stand of the federal states Bremen and
Hamburg. For the first time, the venue of this
year’s ILA was the new international airport
Berlin Brandenburg. BreTeCe presented innovative
solutions for the efficient testing of mechatronic
systems. These were introduced to
the expert audience with the help of different
demonstrators.
The shown solutions included the FastWAN
networking technology for the temporary
interconnection of physically distributed test
facilities, a software tool for the method-driven
generation of test cases, as well as a generic
system simulator for the early testing of
control units. The functionality of the generic
system simulator was demonstrated with an
inverted pendulum, which was embedded in
the simulator as an exemplary specimen or
System Under Test (SUT).
This year again, the project consortium, consisting
of the partners FTI Technologies GmbH,
ExxpertSystems GmbH, and BIBA - Bremer Institut
für Produktion und Logistik GmbH, was
able to welcome high-ranking guests from
politics and economy at the joint stand. Most
noteworthy are the visits of Mr. Martin Günthner,
Senator for Economy, Labor and
Harbors of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen,
as well as Mr. Günther Butschek, chairman of
the management board of Airbus Operations
GmbH. Senator Günthner even could be actively
integrated into one of the demonstration
scenarios. He did start the slat’s movement
in Bremen by operating a flaps lever at
the fair.

How would you measure inflight
tiny disturbances of a wing
surface?
Laminar Flow is a key technology to reduce
aircraft drag and fuel consumption. This will
reduce the carbon footprint of the commercial
aviation. The European Commission has
started as part of the Clean Sky Programme
the Smart Fixed Wing Aircraft (SFWA) project,
in which a consortium of aerospace companies,
including Airbus, Saab and GKN, has
designed a new laminar wing. However, its
application on commercial aircraft requires
manufacturing to a very high standard and
minimum degradation of the wing surface during
flight.
Clean Sky - Call7 requested an industry response
to support this project with a measurement
system, which would detect any deformation
of a laminar wing profile in flight. Because
any disturbance (waviness, steps, gaps,
insect debris…) could trigger the transition of

the boundary layer to turbulent conditions
thus cancelling the benefits of laminar flow.
To test the principles the outboard 9 metres
of the wing of the High Speed Flight Demonstrator,
an A340-300, will be replaced with a
new laminar profile.
The Challenge:
In-flight detection of changes
to the wing surface down to 20
micrometres
The minute disturbances of the designed
wing shape has to measurable in-flight, at
high altitude and subsonic cruising speeds.
However, like in any experiment the measurement
method shall not affect the behaviour
of the wing profile structure. Therefore FTI’s
wing reflectometry methodology will be developed
to detect any local deformations of
the laminar wing surface whilst airborne.
The Idea:
Physics -> Optics -> Reflectometry
Who has not marvelled at those beautiful
photographs of a skyline reflected in a
smooth lake? Reflectometry takes this scenic
picture a step further. Reflectometry is an optical
measurement method, which allows the
calculation of the shape of a reflective surface
using the deformation of a known reflected
pattern.
The solution:
Nearly tangential reflectometry
The reflectometry measurement is based on
the measurement of the deformation of a
pattern after nearly tangential reflection on
the surface under observation. The set-up
allows the installation on an aircraft without
affecting its aerodynamic and structural characteristics.
The geometric limitations of the
aircraft installation creates additional challenges
for the measurement system. The location
of the pattern, cameras and illumination
require the reflection to be measured under
a very shallow angle. FTI uses an infrared
flash system to overcome further constraints,
such as bright sunlight, highly reflective paint
schemes or vibration.
The wing reflectometry project:
Proven concept
The concept was proven during two test campaigns,
performed on-site at Airbus Toulouse.
Furthermore a full scale wing mock up was
constructed in Berlin (Wildau). The test results
have demonstrated that reflectometry
is not only a viable solution but it offers an
accuracy significantly better than the required
0.02 mm.
Project challenges
The new shape of the optimal laminar wing
has a specific curvature and only limited space
to integrate the reflectometry components
such as cameras, pattern and illuminators. In
addition the latest developments in aircraft
painting are applied as well. These two
factors further challanges the application
of reflectometry. Till now the project has
focussed on establishing and validating
solutions to these challenges.
Project status
The system architecture and the location of
the system components (cameras, illumination
and controller) are almost finalised. The
pivotal component of the reflectometry system
is the image recognition and processing
software. Here the full scale mock up at FTI
has proved to be a great benefit as it has allowed
us to perform the development tests at
an early stage.
Next step
First flight of the High Speed Demonstrator is
planned for 2014

During the first half of 2012, FTI had the honour
to show two distinguished guests insights
into the work at FTI.
The Chief Financial Officer of the FTI Group,
Michael Wesner welcomed Carl-Heinz Klinkmüller,
head of the counties building department,
to FTI’s headquarters in Wildau
on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Mr. Wesner
presented our company and explained important
milestones in our development to
the local politician. Highlights of former and
actual product developments and projects
were illustrated during a tour through our
company’s offices. A walkabout through the
FTI workshop, where camera tests on a wing

model were currently being conducted for the
EU-funded research project CleanSky, concluded
the visit.
On Thursday, May 4, 2012, a member of the
European Parliament, Dr. Christian Ehler, also
visited FTI’s headquarters in the Luft- und
Raumfahrtzentrum Schönefelder Kreuz. He
was accompanied by Björn Lakenmacher,
Member of Parliament for Brandenburg, and
Mark Scheiner of the CDU Wildau. After a
talk with the managing director of the Business
Development Agency of the Dahme-
Spreewald region, Mr. Gerhard Janßen, the
guests were guided through the FTI Group
offices by Michael Wesner. He showed them
our product portfolio and explained the broad
scope of the current projects we are involved
with. Ute Franke, project manager for CleanSky,
presented the wing mock-up in our workshop,
and explained the contribution that FTI
has made to the CleanSky project.

Young Professionals Aerospace
The opening event of the Young Professionals
Aerospace took place at the Zentrum für Luft-
und Raumfahrt (ZLR) III, headquarters of the
FTI Group on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
Aimed towards students, graduates and
young professionals in the fields of aviation
and aeronautics, the series of events is
organized by the University of Applied
Sciences Wildau and the ZLR. Locally-based
companies present themselves to interested
visitors and offer a networking possibility
afterwards. By presenting the researches and
development projects to the students, the
companies want to arouse interest to win
future junior employees.
The FTI Group took part in the opening event
and will present itself as a potential employer
to visitors on October 17, 2012. Further information

BER-Recruiting-Countdown
The FTI Group presented itself as a employer
at the BER-Recruiting-Countdown at the
Airportworld at Berlin Schönefeld Airport on
Wednesday, March 21, 2012 and on Wednesday,
May 9, 2012.
Open vacancies to interest visitors were presented
by companies from the aerospace industry
nearby the new Berlin Airport. Both
events were visited frequently with 7,000
and 4,000 visitors respectively. Watching out
for professionals and young academics in the
technical field, FTI benefited particularly and
achieved promising requests.

Saturday, May 21th, 2012, adrenalin, karts
and full throttle. The Kart Center Spreewald
hosted the 6th Brandenburg-Cup and our
drivers from FTI once again proved their excellent
skills as old hands on the race track.
This year Isabel, Marcel, Maurice, Denis, Nils,
Patrick und Christian faced the challenge.
During the warm up we ensured the 6th starting
position for the preliminary run with an
excellent time of 41.06 seconds. Everyone
fought hard for each tenth of a second due
to the fast lap times of the opposing teams.
Even during the woman laps, launched for the
first time, the tires screeched. FTI snatched
ninth place with a superior performance and
reached the coveted A-Final.
The best 18 teams fought for a place on the
podium. Despite, or even because of the second
to last starting position No. 17, our
Denis Rentsch during driver‘s change
ambitious drivers fought hard and ten minutes
later we were 4 places further to the
front. Even Isabel, the only women in the
team, pushed her way skilfully past the other
karts and won some places despite a spectacular
stunt. Every driver was able to set personal
best times. Denis achieved an especially
strong performance with a top time of 40.40
seconds, in spite of windy conditions.
All participants took the competition seriously
so it was no surprise that one or the other
stack of tyres flew around and some drivers
found themselves off the race track.
After 100 exciting minutes of the A-Final and
several fastest race laps the FTI team was able
to win 10 places and finished with a more
than deserved 7th place.
Many thanks to our team for the sporting spirit
and the cheering. Next year, we will aim
again for new records and with a better starting
position we surely reach the podium!
Our Isabel - More than a
token woman
An innovation this year: To start,
all teams reqire at least one
female team member. Good
that we have Isabel! During the
internal training she took the
boys on and showed passion and
ambition. Her motto: “Brake?
No, I take my foot off the gas,
at best”. Leaving the other girls
without the slightest chance
during the woman laps, she drove
a race on the fast track. We were
proud of our little Isa. Lightweight
and skilled she passed other
drivers and even a spectacular
accident (luckily nothing serious
happened) couldn’t stop her from
getting back in the kart to finish
her round without losing a single
position.
Thank you Isabel, you are our
hero!!
