Krise leider überall.

Und natürlich betrifft das auch
den Pferdehandel, insbesondere
das Auktionsgeschäft, das unter
anderem von der geselligen Atmosphäre
dieser Veranstaltungen profitiert.
Nicht aber in Zeiten von Ausgangsbeschränkungen,
Versammlungsverboten
und nicht zuletzt der Angst um die
Gesundheit. All das hat die Holsteiner
Verband Vermarktungs und Auktions
GmbH in Sachen Frühjahrsauktion vor
eine große Herausforderung gestellt.
Letztendlich entschied sich Roland Metz
dazu, die Auktion als reine Onlineauktion
durchzuführen.
Zum teuersten Pferd der 34sten Holsteiner
Frühjahrsauktion avancierte der dreijährige
Call me Scopy v. Comme il faut-Cartani
(Michael Winstel, Hattersheim). Ausgestellt
wurde der Hengst von der Familie Sagel vom
Sudheimer Hof in Westfalen, die bereits im
vergangenen Jahr aus derselben Mutter einen
Vagabond-Sohn aus dem Stamm 8185 über
die Holsteiner Frühjahrsauktion für einen
sehr guten Preis verkauften. Eine junge Südamerikanerin,
die allerdings in Spanien beheimatet
ist, sicherte sich Call me Scopy für
47.000 Euro. In Deutschland – genauer gesagt
in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – bleibt die
Diamant de Semilly-Tochter Gloria. Gerd Ohlsen
(Föhr) stellte die großrahmige Sechsjährige,
die bereits ein Fohlen bekommen hat,
aus. Ihre Mutter stammt ab von Corrado I-
Carry und geht damit aus der direkten Mutterlinie
von Pikeur Dylon (Markus Brinkmann)
und Calle Cool (Nisse Lüneburg) hervor.
Gloria kostete 36.000 Euro. Große Begehrlichkeiten
weckte zudem Magic Million.
Auch diese dreijährige Stute stammt aus einer
international erfolgreichen Familie. Denn
ihre Großmutter brachte unter anderem
Hugo Simons Erfolgspferd Caldato. Sven
Schlüsselburg, der vor allem seit seinen beeindruckenden
Auftritten beim vergangenen
CHIO in Aachen überregional bekannt sein
dürfte, sicherte sich diese Nachwuchshoffnung
von Million Dollar-Caretino für 35.500
Euro. 35 Offerten umfasste das Lot der Holsteiner
Frühjahrsauktion. Zu einem Durchschnittspreis
von 19.128 Euro kauften Kunden
aus der Schweiz, USA, Belgien, Norwegen,
Slowakei und Deutschland.

PFERD+SPORT: Aufgrund der besonderen
Umstände musste die Frühjahrsauktion
sehr kurzfristig in eine reine Onlineauktion
umgewandelt werden. Wie lautet Ihr
persönliches Resümee?
Roland Metz: „Zunächst einmal sind wir erleichtert,
dass wir die Onlineauktion reibungslos
über die Bühne gebracht haben. Und
im Grunde sind wir auch mit dem Ergebnis
zufrieden. Im Nachgang haben noch einige
weitere Pferde einen neuen Besitzer gefunden
und so konnten wir unseren Ausstellern
in dieser besonderen Situation doch noch
einen passenden Marktplatz bieten.“
Kamen trotzdem genügend Kunden nach Elmshorn,
um die Pferde vorab auszuprobieren?
Roland Metz: „Nein, sicherlich nicht. Gerade
für ausländische Kunden und solche mit weiterer
Anfahrt war es nicht möglich, nach

Elmshorn zu kommen. Nicht zuletzt auch deswegen,
weil wir ihnen keine Unterbringung
in Hotels bieten konnten. Insbesondere bei
der Frühjahrsauktion ist der Auktionstag mit
der Präsentation und der letzten Möglichkeit
zum Ausprobieren nochmal sehr entscheidend.“
71 Prozent Verkaufsquote – unter
normalen Umständen wären Sie damit
sicher nicht zufrieden? Wie sieht es in
diesen besonderen Zeiten aus?
Roland Metz: „Ja, das stimmt! Normalerweise
wäre das kein zufriedenstellendes Ergebnis.
Aber wie gesagt, dadurch dass im Nachhinein
noch einige zusätzliche Verkäufe zustande
gekommen sind, sind wir sogar sehr zufrieden.“
Wie haben die Aussteller die Entscheidung
zur Onlineauktion mitgetragen?
Roland Metz: „Bis auf zwei Aussteller haben
alle anderen die neue Situation mitgetragen.
Das war enorm wichtig, um den Kunden auch
ein entsprechendes Angebot präsentieren zu
können. Glücklicherweise hat es sich ausbezahlt!“
In diesen Zeiten sind Zukunftspläne
kaum möglich. Trotzdem fragen sich
sicher viele Kunden und potentielle
Aussteller: Wie geht es in diesem Jahr
weiter mit den Holsteiner Auktionen?
Roland Metz: „Jetzt stehen erst einmal die
Fohlenauktionen im Fokus, die insbesondere
für die große Holsteiner Züchterschaft sehr
wichtig sind. Daher wird unsere Fohlenauktion
im Juni stattfinden. Wir verfügen jetzt
über das Onlineportal, deshalb sollten wir es
auch nutzen, für den Fall, dass es nicht möglich
ist, eine Auktion live durchführen zu
können.“

Special circumstances require special action – this
sentence can be read and it is said quite often in times
like these, when the corona virus is reigning the world,
unfortunately. And this goes for the horse business as
well, of course. It is especially true for auctions that
take advantage of these events’ social atmosphere.
This is no longer an option at times of curfews,
prohibition of assembly and last but not least fears for
health and lives. All of this has put the Holsteiner
Verband‘s Vermarktung und Auktions GmbH in front of
huge challenges regarding its’ spring auction. In the
end, Roland Metz made the decision to run the auction
completely online.
„We were able to offer a market place“
Talking to Roland Metz
PFERD+SPORT: Due to the special circumstances the spring
auction had to be turned into a pure online event and at rather short
notice at that. What is your personal conclusion?
Roland Metz: “Mainly, we are very relieved that we could pull off the
online auction without any glitches. And essentially we are pleased
with the results. In the follow-up some more horses found new
owners and therefore we were able to offer a suitable market place
for our exhibitors in this special situation after all.“
Was there a sufficient number of customers at Elmshorn to try the
horses beforehand?
Roland Metz: “No, certainly not. Especially for international
customers or clients from afar it was impossible to come to
Elmshorn. One of the reasons was our inability to offer hotel rooms.
The presentation and one last possibility to try any of the horses on
the day of the action is vital, especially at the spring auctions.”
A sales quota of 71 percent – under regular circumstances you
would not at all be happy with that. How is it now, in times like
these?
Roland Metz: “Yes, that is true. Normally this would not be a
satisfactory result. But as I said before, thanks to the follow-up sales
we are very happy indeed.”
How did the exhibitors react to your decision to go online?
Roland Metz: “Apart from two exceptions all others accepted the
new situation. That was enormously important, to be able to present
a sufficient offer to our customers. Luckily, it paid off!“
Right now it is almost impossible to plan for the future. Nevertheless,
many customers and potential exhibitors ask the question:
how will the Holsteiner auctions continue this year?
Roland Metz: “Right now we will focus on our foal auctions that are
immensely important for a lot of our Holsteiner breeders. That is
why we will have the foal auction in June. We have installed the
online portal and we should use it in case it is impossible to have a
live auction.”
Call me Scopy by Comme il Fau-Cartani (Michael
Winstel, Hattersheim) became the most expensive
horse of the 34th Holsteiner spring auction. The
three-year-old was exhibited by the Sagel family from
Westphalia. The spring auctions are a good place for
the family’s Sudheimer Hof. Last year they had sold a
son of Vagabond out of the same mare of line 8185 for
a very good price there. A young South African lady,
based in Spain, secured Call me Scoopy for 47,000
Euro. Six-year-old Gloria by Diamant de Semilly remains
in Germany, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Gerd Ohlsen
(Föhr) presented the largelined mare, who had had a
foal already. Her dam is by Corrado I-Carry and goes
back to the direct dam line of Pikeur Dylon (Markus
Brinkmann) and Calle Cool (Nisse Lüneburg). Large
desire was noted for Magic Million. This three-year-old
mare comes from an internationally successful family
as well. Her grand dam delivered Hugo Simon’s winner

Caldato. Sven Schlüsselburg, well known since his
impressive riding at last year’s CHIO Aachen, secured
this prospect by Million Dollar and Caretino for 35,500
Euro. The 34th Spring Auction’s lot had 35 offers. They
sold for an average price of 19,128 Euro and customers
came from Switzerland, the United States, Belgium,
Norway, Slovakia and Germany.
