Veränderung der Wegeführung. Zusätzlich machen Baustellen und provisorische Zugänge
eine endgültige Beschriftung häufig nicht möglich. Es sind sowohl Lösungen für Alt- und
Neubauten als auch Provisorien gefragt, bei denen man aber ständig die fertige Ausbaustufe
im Kopf haben muss.
Im zweiten Schritt folgen Restrukturierung, Neuordnung und das Aufräumen der Informationsträger.
Was ein unübersichtlicher Schilderwald unterschiedlichster Machart und
Form war, haben wir schrittweise komplett beseitigt. Aufräumen ist eine der wichtigsten
Maßnahmen, meist funktionieren Beschriftungen alleine dadurch nicht, dass sie überall
die komplette Information anbieten.
Was bedeutet das für den Benutzer des Leitsystems?
// Erwin K. Bauer Das Ergebnis sind wesentlich weniger Informationsträger an den entscheidenden
Stellen, die man dafür deutlich wahrnimmt. Der Benutzer ist nicht überfordert,
sondern wird gezielt informiert, die Anzahl und damit die Kosten der Informationsträger
werden überschaubar, und die Wartung wird einfacher. Somit gibt es auch wirtschaftliche
Vorteile für das Klinikum selbst.
// Wolfgang Lengauer Die betriebsorganisatorische Entwicklung spielt eine wesentliche Rolle.
Einerseits wurde das Klinikum nach medizinischen Zentren organisiert, andererseits gibt
es trotz des großen Geländes eigentlich nur einen Eingang. Dort liegt die zentrale Anlaufstelle
für die Besucher-Information und von dort aus verteilt es sich. Wenn ich diese eine
zentrale Anlaufstelle nicht habe, sondern mehrere, dann habe ich Information hier und
dort. Das Leiten wird wesentlich komplizierter, aber auch die Vorstellung des Geländes im
Kopf des Benutzers wird sehr verschieden ausfallen.

The next step is restructuring, re-organizing and cleaning up the information carriers. We
removed what used to be a confusing clutter of signs of different types and shapes step
by step. Cleaning up was one of the most important measures. Signs are often ineffective
because they offer complete information everywhere.
What does that mean for the people who use the way finding system?
// Erwin K. Bauer It means considerably less information carriers in decisive places, but the
carriers are perceived much more clearly. they don’t overburden the user. The system
offers specific information, the number and cost of the information carriers is easier to
supervise and maintenance is easier too. So this leads to economic benefits for the clinic
itself as well.
//Wolfgang Lengauer The development of the clinic’s organization and operations also plays
an important role here. The clinic is organized in medical centers, but there is only one
entrance despite the large site. That entrance is also the central visitor information center,
from which visitors spread out. If it weren’t for that central access point I would have
information scattered here and there. That would make way finding much more complicated,
and visitors would also envision the site differently as well.
Can things like a central entrance and central information be defined in advance as the architectural basis for
a good way finding system?
