Was nicht heißt, dass es statisch oder unveränderlich ist. Aber der Spirit des Hauses sollte
weiterleben. Das hängt natürlich stark von den verantwortlichen Nutzern ab.
// Sascha Lobe Visuelle Gestaltung hat die Möglichkeit, jene Leerstellen zu besetzen, die es
zwangsläufig in der Architektur gibt. Normalerweise werden an solchen Stellen Plakate
aufgehängt oder Topfpflanzen aufgestellt. Ein bisschen Zuhause, um für sich selbst einen
Ort zu stiften. Wenn diese Leerstellen besetzt sind, reagiert alles Zusätzliche zumindest
unbewusst auf das Bestehende. Wenn Wände bereits grafisch bespielt sind, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit,
dass da jemand Plakate aufhängt, geringer.
Was hältst Du vom Mittel der Partizipation als Gestaltungsmethode? Z. B. das Projekt von Martí Guixé für die
Flagshipstores von Camper, bei dem er Kunden motiviert hat, Wände der Shops zu beschreiben. Einerseits war
diese Aktion als partizipatives Event gedacht, war aber letztlich auch eine identitätsbildende Maßnahme.
// Sascha Lobe Dieses Projekt fiel mir auch gerade ein. Ich glaube der finnische Pavillon auf
der EXPO in Hannover war ähnlich gestrickt. Solche Konzepte machen die Masse der
Äußerungen zum Dekor. Die einzelne Botschaft, die hinterlassen wird, geht im Muster auf,
vor allem, wenn man zum Beispiel nur eine Farbe von Filzstiften zur Verfügung stellt und
damit das gestalterische Ergebnis kontrolliert. Der Impuls, etwas Persönliches zu machen,
wird vielleicht befriedigt, aber ablesbar ist das einzelne Statement letztlich nicht. Es hat
für mich etwas von Augenwischerei. Marken, die besonders individuell wirken wollen,
machen so etwas. Ob das tiefgründig ist, weiß ich nicht.
Bietet Ihr gezielt Flächen an, auf denen man sich persönlich äußern und ausbreiten kann?
// Sascha Lobe In der Kreissparkasse gibt es solche Situationen nicht. Beim Leitsystem für
die Gedenkstätte in Sachsenhausen haben wir gezielt Möglichkeiten angeboten, um
// Sascha Lobe Visual design has the possibility of filling the empty spaces that are part of
the architecture. Posters or potted plants are normally used in such spaces. People try to
bring a bit of home with them and create a place for themselves. Everything else reacts
unconsciously to the existing surroundings once these empty spaces are filled. It is less
probable that someone will put up a poster on a wall with graphics.
What do you think of participation as a design method? I am thinking of the project by Martí Guixé for the
Camper flagship stores in which he motivated customers to write on walls designed for that purpose. This was
conceived as a participation event at one level, but it was also an identity-building measure.
// Sascha Lobe I just thought of the same project. I think the Finnish pavilion at the EXPO in
Hannover was based on a similar idea. Concepts like that turn the mass of statements
into the décor. The individual messages create a pattern if you only allow one felt marker
color, which makes it possible to control the result. The impulse involved in doing something
personal may be satisfying, but the individual statement isn’t ultimately readable.
There is an element of cant in it. Brands that want to seem especially individualistic do
that kind of thing. I don’t know how deep that goes.
Do you provide surfaces people can express themselves on and create their own space?
// Sascha Lobe The Kreissparkasse doesn’t allow for that kind of situation. We made a point
of offering possibilities of writing messages and comments in the way finding system for
the Sachsenhausen Memorial. We wanted to do our part and satisfy the need to comment.
But we also wanted to avoid random scribbling. Visibility and protection are an important
subject. The moment a pure glass surface is used you can be one hundred percent sure
