dass sich die Leute zurechtfinden. Im Fall Kufstein werden Orientierungsmodule durch
einen persönlichen Guide ersetzt. Das Informationspult ist zu jeder Zeit mit einem freundlichen
Mitarbeiter der Fachhochschule besetzt, dort bekommt jeder Auskunft. Es war in
diesem Fall etwas ungewöhnlich, dass von Seiten der Fachhochschule ausdrücklich der
Wunsch kam, auf eine Orientierungstafel zu verzichten. Im Betrieb klappt dieses Konzept
sehr gut. Im Falle einer Erweiterung müsste man dieses System dann vielleicht ändern
und mit Orientierungsplänen ergänzen.
Wird man nach der Erstausstattung so eines Gebäudes wieder kontaktiert, oder ist ein Leitsystem eine fixe
Installation, die keine weitere Betreuung braucht?
// Ingeborg Kumpfmüller In der ersten Bauphase ging es um die Außenbeschriftung, um den
Schriftzug „Fachhochschule Kufstein, Tirol“ und das Motto, das der Schule inhaltlich sehr
wichtig ist: „Internationalität, Mobilität, Multikulturalität“. Ich habe das auf reine Zeichen
reduziert. Daraus ist ein Schriftbild entstanden, das sehr gut aufgenommen wurde und
auch immer wieder in Infobroschüren über die Hochschule ausschnitthaft verwendet wird.
Das Schriftbild wurde mit flachen Alulettern bündig in die Putzfassade eingelassen. Je
nach Sonnenstand war es gut sichtbar, dann wieder weniger, ein lebhaftes Spiel.
In der Bauphase zwei – ein paar Jahre später – wurde ich wieder angefragt, die Außenbeschriftung
zu gestalten. Der Bauherr war eigentlich traurig, weil das Schriftbild wegen
des Zubaus entfernt werden musste.
Gibt es das jetzt nicht mehr?

specifically the “Fachhochschule Kufstein, Tirol” lettering and the school’s motto,
“Internatio nalität, Mobilität, Multikulturalität”, which is very important to them. I reduced
that to simple letters. This led to a typeface that was very well received and is constantly
cut out and used in the college’s information brochures. The typeface was flush-mounted
on the plaster facade in aluminum letters. The angle of the sun makes it very visible or
less visible at times, a playful effect. During the second construction phase – a few years
later – I was asked to design the outside lettering again. The client was actually unhappy
the lettering had to be removed because of the annex.
It doesn’t exist anymore?
// Ingeborg Kumpfmüller The lettering was painted on a wall in the entrance area of the new
building. They wanted to mount the lettering in its original aluminum form, but the letters
somehow vanished during construction. I decided to work with just two letters – the “f”
and “h” – in view of the new construction situation. It wasn’t easy to complete technically
due to the size of around 7.5 m by 3.5 m. The goal was to make only the letter visible, not
the construction. It was also a cost issue, but the college wanted to do it all costs.
