Aims of course:<br />
The goals of the course are to<br />
1. consolidate and develop core English-language competences for international business<br />
transactions,<br />
<strong>2.</strong> train effective oral communication skills, focusing on discussion techniques and<br />
3. train effective written communication skills, including the analysis of business problems<br />
and the presentation of justified and well-argued solutions.<br />
Contents of the module:<br />
Students deal with international business case studies: They should<br />
1. analyse the dilemma, discuss possible solutions and finally present their own decision<br />
with detailed reasons in spoken / written form,<br />
<strong>2.</strong> train other skills in the course of the case study: language for small talk, meetings,<br />
negotiations and telephoning and<br />
3. discuss the following themes: ethics and CSR; the environment and business; globalisation;<br />
marketing and advertising; and HR<br />
Teaching and learning methods:<br />
Class discussion; group work; role plays; simulations; mini-presentations; audio- and videocassettes<br />
/ DVDs; exercises.<br />
Special features:<br />
A good command of English is absolutely essential for anyone working in the international<br />
business world and therefore an important element of students’ training at the <strong>HSBA</strong>. It is a<br />
goal of this course to professionalize the existing skills the students have in English with specific<br />
attention to business and economics vocabulary, work-related idioms, register expectations,<br />
fluency and lexical range. in addition, the language of meetings and negotiations and<br />
successful language strategies will be trained.<br />
