A remote maintenance solution was
decided upon, in order to improve
after-sales service and to reduce the
high cost of travel. The Talk2M solution
revolutionized the normal work life at IBA.
A great advantage is also that several
authorized persons can simultaneously
access the same machine from different
locations to troubleshoot and to initiate
countermeasures.
The Talk2M solution
Talk2M is an established Internet service
with more than 6,000 participants, which
in conjunction with the eWON remote
modules offers a great opportunity for
remote monitoring of machines and
equipment.
By using VPN tunnel technology, the
data is transmitted reliably and protected
against any access from outside. Existing
IT security policies among the users
remain unaffected, since only standard
ports are used and expensive firewalls or
similar security mechanisms do not have
to be adapted.
IBA installed the remote administration
module eWON 2005CD at the Ghent site.
This module has been connected to the
Internet through the WAN port and a DSL
router, so that a connection could be
made to the Talk2M server. In the future,
UMTS/HSDPA devices will be used.
On the LAN side Talk2M is connected to an
IP webcam, which is placed in the control
room. Beside it, Talk2M and eWON are
connected with the S7 controller and the
control PC.
Furthermore, IBA has installed an
intelligent alarm service via SMS, which is
realized by using the built-in eWON GSM
module. IBA's customers use this service
and the in-house customer service to
shorten response times and to perform
preventive maintenance (condition
monitoring).

for M2M Communication!
Die Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg
führte Ende 2009 ein Forschungsprojekt
zum Thema M2M-Communication
im Bereich eHealth in
Zusammenarbeit mit der Cinterion
Wireless Modules GmbH durch.
The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University
carried out a research project
in cooperation with the Cinterion
Wireless Modules GmbH regarding
M2M communication in the
eHealth field at the end of 2009.
Insgesamt wurden 20 Interviews mit Ansprechpartnern
von Krankenhäusern,
Krankenkassen, Herstellern von M2M Applikationen
und Verbänden geführt. Ziel
des Projekts war es, den stark fragmentierten
eHealth Markt hinsichtlich Anwendungsbereichen
und zukünftigen Entwicklungen
zu untersuchen.
Aus der Befragung ging hervor, dass M2M-
Communication derzeit hauptsächlich zur
Überwachung von Kardiologie-Werten in
der ambulanten und stationären Betreuung
verwendet wird. Auch in der innerbetrieblichen
Organisation (z.B. Touren- und
Dienstplanung) gewinnt diese Technologie
zunehmend an Bedeutung. Als die wichtigsten
Ziele wurden Prozessoptimierung
und Verbesserung der Kunden- und Patientenzufriedenheit
genannt. Datenschutz,
Zuverlässigkeit und Sicherheit sind hierbei
die zentralen Anforderungen. Rationalisierung
und Umsatzsteigerung spielten
hingegen eine eher untergeordnete Rolle.
Die größte Hürde bei der Einführung der
drahtlosen Kommunikation sind die hohen
Investitionskosten. Hier sind die
Krankenhäuser auf die Unterstützung der
Krankenkassen angewiesen. Die befragte
Zielgruppe äußerte zudem Unsicherheit
im Umgang mit den gesetzlichen Vorga-
ben. Handlungsbedarf besteht vor allem
in der exakteren Ausgestaltung der rechtlichen
Rahmenbedingungen, wie z.B. Datenschutzrichtlinien,
Zertifizierung und
bundesweite Standards.
Die Ansprechpartner der Befragung gehen
davon aus, dass der zukünftige Schwerpunkt
der Datenübertragung bei Bildern
und Grafiken liegen wird, wobei auch
gleichzeitig mit einer erheblichen Steigerung
der Datenübertragungshäufigkeit
und des Datenvolumens zu rechnen ist.
Neue Anwendungen im Gesundheitswesen
erfordern auch den Aus- und Aufbau einer
leistungsfähigen Infrastruktur. Die Netzbetreiber
investieren daher bereits heute
erkennbar in Glasfasernetze. Es ist davon
auszugehen, dass die Erweiterung des
Glasfasernetzes in den nächsten Jahren
zusätzliche Wachstumsimpulse verspricht.
A total of 20 interviews were conducted
with contacts from hospitals, health insurers,
manufacturers of M2M applications
and associations. The aim of the project
was to investigate the highly fragmented
market in terms of eHealth applications
and future developments.
The survey showed that M2M communication
is currently mainly used for surveillance
of cardiology data for outpatient
and inpatient care. This technology is also
becoming increasingly important in internal
company organization (e.g. tours and
service planning). Process optimization
and improvement of customer and patient
satisfaction were mentioned as the most
important objectives, and here privacy,
reliability and security are the key requirements.
Rationalization and revenue, on
the other hand, played only a subordinate
role.
