Gott
In Jesus Christus, so glauben
God
“And the Lord, seeking his laborer in the multitude to whom He thus cries out, says
again, ‘Who is the one who will have life, and desires to see good days‘ (Ps. 33 [34]:13)
And if, hearing Him, you answer, ‘I am the one,‘ God says to you …
‘Turn away from evil and do good; seek after peace and pursue it‘ (Ps. 33[34]:14-15).
And when you have done these things, My eyes shall be upon you and My ears open
to your prayers; and before you call upon Me, I will say to you, ‘Behold, here I am‘ (Ps.
33[34]:16; Is. 65:24; 58:9). What can be sweeter to us, dear ones, than this voice of the
Lord inviting us? Behold, in His loving kindness the Lord shows us the way of life. Having
our loins girded, therefore, with faith and the performance of good works (Eph. 6:14),
let us walk in His paths by the guidance of the Gospel, that we may deserve to see Him
who has called us to His kingdom (1 Thess. 2:12).“
(Rule of St Benedict, Prol 14-20)
God exists. Of this we are certain. He is the fundament and the purpose aim of our monastic
life. Without God a Catholic monastery is unthinkable. We believe that in Jesus
Christ God has become man. He has been with us since the beginning. He is the centre
of our lives and remains amongst us in our world. He is not a God of philosophers, not
a distant, unapproachable God. He is someone who is very close to us, who loves every
human being, and who wants to lead us to salvation, to happiness and to the fullness
of life. Everyone of us has heard God`s personal call some time in our life. We have met
Him in our daily round, in other fellow human beings, when reading or contemplating
the Holy Gospel, in silence and in nature. The encounter has changed our lives. We, the
Sisters of the Abbey of St Hildegard, forsook everything and followed a new path into
our order, our Benedictine community.
