Arbeitsbereiche im Haus „Jeder hat seine besondere Gabe von Gott, der eine diese, der andere jene.“ (Benediktsregel, Kap. 40,1) Benediktinisches Gemeinschaftsleben weist eine Vielzahl von Parallelen zu einer Großfamilie auf. Vier Generationen leben hier unter einem Dach und müssen versorgt werden. Obwohl – oder gerade weil wir uns um einen einfachen Lebensstil bemühen, versuchen wir, möglichst viele der im Haus anfallenden Arbeiten selbst zu machen; in manchem sind wir aber auch auf Hilfe von Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern angewiesen. Die wichtigsten Arbeitsbereiche im Haus sind: Sakristei, Krankenabteilung, Bibliothek, Sekretariat, Küche, Bäckerei, Schneiderei, Waschküche, Hausmeisterei, Schreinerei, PC-Wartung, Elektrowerkstatt, Verwaltung, Archiv und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Die Aufgaben im Haus sind ebenso wichtig wie die Arbeiten in den Wirtschaftsbetrieben und Kunstwerkstätten, auch wenn sie in der Regel mehr im Verborgenen stattfinden und von außen weniger wahrgenommen werden. Sie sind gleichsam das Herz, ohne die das Gemeinschaftsleben nicht funktionieren würde. The Fields of Work in the Abbey „Everyone has her own gift from God, one in this way and another in that“. (Rule of St Benedict, Ch 40, 1) The Benedictine community life shows numerous parallels to life in an extended family. In our convent four generations live under one roof and have to be taken care of. As we try hard to lead a simple life we attempt to do as many of the necessary household chores ourselves. But nevertheless we have to rely on the help of our staff from outside the abbey, female as well as male. Some of the most important fields of work around the abbey are: The sacristy, the infirmary, the library, the office, the kitchen, the bakery, the tailor’s, the laundry, the caretaker’s, the carpentry, the pc maintenance, the electrical works, the administration, the archive, the public relations work. The chores within the buildings are just as important as the work done in the business enterprises and the studios even though it is done hidden from the public eye and so less noticeable. But they signify the heart without which our community life would not function.

Klosterverwaltung und Mitarbeiter/innen „Der Cellerar sei für die ganze Klostergemeinde wie ein Vater.“ (Benediktsregel, Kap. 31, 2) „Euch soll es zuerst um das Reich Gottes und seine Gerechtigkeit gehen; dann wird euch alles andere dazugegeben.“ (Benediktsregel, Kap. 2, 35) Im Kloster ist jede einzelne mitverantwortlich für das Ganze und trägt ihren Teil dazu bei, dass die Gemeinschaft leben kann und in ihr der Friede bewahrt bleibt. Die Cellerarin vertritt die Stelle des „Hausvaters“ und ist in enger Abstimmung mit der Äbtissin verantwortlich für die „weltlichen Güter“ des Klosters. Ihre und unsere gemeinsame Sorge gilt: • der Wirtschaftlichkeit der Betriebe und Werkstätten des Klosters, • der ordnungsgemäßen Verwaltung einschließlich der Bilanzen, • den weltlichen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern, • den Spenden und Almosen für Menschen in Not, • der Versorgung der alten und kranken Mitschwestern, • der notwendigen Versicherungen der einzelnen Schwestern und der gesamten Klosteranlage, • der Immobilien- und Grundstücksverwaltung, • den Bau- und Renovierungsmaßnahmen, • der Instandhaltung der Fahrzeuge, Maschinen und Geräte, • dem geregelten Kontakt zu Banken, Behörden und Kommune. Benediktinische Klöster haben zu allen Zeiten die Region und die Landschaft, in der sie stehen, geprägt und gelten als wichtige und verlässliche Arbeitgeber. Die Zusammenarbeit mit den eigenen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern und mit ortsansässigen Handwerksbetrieben und Firmen aus der Region hat eine lange Tradition. Die Zusammenarbeit mit Angestellten, auch in leitenden Positionen, ist für uns nicht nur eine Notwendigkeit, sondern auch eine Bereicherung, in fachlicher wie in menschlicher Hinsicht. Convent Administration and our Staff “The cellarer … (should) be like a father to the whole community.” (Rule of St Benedict, Ch 31, 2) „First seek the kingdom of God and His justice, and all these things shall be given you besides (Ps. 33[34]:10). “ (Rule of St Benedict, Ch 2, 35) Every one of our Sisters shares responsibility for the whole convent and makes her contribution to our community and its domestic harmony. Our cellarer is the “mother of the house” and, in close cooperation with the abbess, is responsible for the worldly concerns of the convent. Her and our common care is devoted to: • The profitability of our businesses, workshops and studios • Proper administration including balance-sheets • Our secular staff • Donations and alms for people in need • Care of the old and sick fellow sisters • The necessary insurances for the individual sisters and those for the buildings, grounds and facilities • Administration of the property and estate • Building and renovation measures • Maintenance of vehicles, machines and appliances • Regular contact with banks, local and other authorities. At all times Benedictine convents have left their mark on the local region and its landscape. They are considered to be important and reliable employers. Cooperation with our own staff, with local and regional trade, workshops and other businesses is part of a long tradition. The cooperation with managers and their employees is not only vital for us but it also enriches us in terms of expertise as well as on the human level.
