Nach der Bekanntgabe des Gipfelortes durch Kanzlerin
Angela Merkel war vielen noch nicht bewusst, welche
Aufgabe auf die Region zukommen wird.
Während im Werdenfelser Land die traditionelle Fastnacht
gefeiert wurde, entstanden erste Planungsskizzen und die
Größe der Veranstaltung wurde langsam greifbar.

Schloss Elmau um 1930
After chancellor Angela Merkel had disclosed the location
of the summit, many weren‘t consciously aware of what task
they would be facing in the whole region.
While the traditional „Fasnacht“ (carnival) was being celebrated
in the Werdenfels region , first planning sketches were made
and the size of the event was slowly starting to manifest itself.
Die Besuche hochrangiger Politiker nahmen zu und auch der Gipfel nahm einen immer breiteren
Raum ein. Neben der Geburt einer Ziege, erlebten wir auch die Rettung einer Katze aus einem
Kamin. Eine Buchpräsentation auf der Ederkanzel zeigte die steigende Medienpräsenz.
Visits of top ranking politicians accumulated and the summit took an ever greater position in their
speeches. At the time we could witness the birth of a goat, and also a cat was rescued out of a
chimney. A book presentation at the Ederkanzel showed the increasing presence of the media.

Zum Beginn der Sommersaison putzt sich die Region
heraus. Im Falle der Leutaschklamm wurde diese durch
die Mittenwalder Bergwacht von losem Gestein befreit,
eine der vielen Aufgaben zu denen sich nun auch die
Gipfelvorbereitung gesellte. Gäste zu schützen wird in
den nächsten Monaten die Region tiefgreifend beschäftigen.
April / Mai 2014
At the beginning of the summer season the region spruced
itself up. In the case of the Leutaschklamm it was disburdened
from loose rocks and stones by the Mittenwald mountain
rescue team. It was one of the functions which they had
undertaken in view of the summit. The protection of guests
and visitors is going to concern each and everyone for the
next few months in a very profound way.
Während nun häufige Besuche von Politikern nur mehr den Gipfel betrafen, wurde eiligst mit dem
Ausbau des digitalen Behördenfunks begonnen. Auf und vor den Bühnen der großen Festsäle gab
es neben ersten Informationsveranstaltungen zum Gipfel auch viel Kultur wie ein Musical.
Now as frequent visits by politicians were mostly about the upcoming summit, the extension of the
digital mobile radio for the authorities was initiated. On and in front of the stages of festival venues,
there were apart from information events also a lot of cultural social functions like a musical.

Ein Jahr vor dem Gipfel wurden viele Baustellen eingerichtet,
die Diskussion des Umweltschutzes nahm
breiten Raum ein. Gleichzeitig wurden große Sportevents
wie der Start der Transalp gemeistert. Herauszuheben
ist der Ausbau des BOS Digitalfunks, der zentraler
Bestandteil der Sicherheitsarchitektur zum Gipfel werden
soll.
Juni 2014
A year ahead of the summit many construction areas shot
up and a lot of discussions about the protection of the environment
arose. At the same time, major sporting events
like the Transalp were mastered. One has to single out the
development of the BOS digital radio which would become
the central component of the security architecture of the
summit.
Nicht nur die Kommunikation stand in der Region vor einer Generalüberholung. Auch viele Straßenabschnitte
bedurften dringend der Sanierung, vor allem solche die im Notfall auch als Fluchtwege
dienen sollten.
It was not only the general communication system of the region that needed a makeover, but also
some of the roads which were in bad need of restoration, especially because they were needed in
case of an emergency as an escape route.

Das neue Retreat nahm Formen an und eine komplett
neue Wasserver- und entsorgung wurde in der Elmau
installiert. Trotzdem wurde versucht, die gesamte Zeit
den Zugang für Gäste sicherzustellen. Voneinander unabhängige
Quellen stellen die Versorgung unter allen
Umständen sicher.

The new retreat was starting to take on shape, and a completely
new water scheme was installed in the Elmau. Even
though this was going on one always tried to keep the access
possible for the guests at all times. Different sources
make sure that the supply is always guaranteed.
Hochwasser, Strassenbauarbeiten und Veranstaltungen wie das Bierzelt in Mittenwald und die 75
Jahrfeier der Ederkanzel sorgten für viel Arbeit. Ehrenamtlich organisierte Veranstaltungen sind
eine wichtige Einnahmequelle für die meisten lokalen Vereine.
A lot of work was at hand due to flooding, road works, and venues like the beer tent in Mittenwald
and the 75 year anniversary of the Ederkanzel. Venues organized by honorary volunteers are an
important source of revenue for most of the local associations.

Die Rathäuser und Umgebung in Mittenwald und
Krün wurden saniert, derweil präsentierte sich das
Gipfelhotel als sei es eine Installation von Christo.
Das „Bauarbeiterlager“ in der Elmau wuchs zu einem
mehrstöckigen Komplex heran. Erdarbeiten bereiteten
den Wanderparkplatz für seine Verwendung als Hubschrauberlandeplatz
vor.
August 2014
The town halls in Mittenwald and Krün were being renovated
and the surrounding areas as well were getting a
makeover, simultaneously the summit hotel looked like it
was a work of art by Christo. The camp for the construction
workers was growing into a multistoried complex.
Earthwork readied the old parking area for hikers for its
new appropriation as a helicopter landing area.
Die Bauarbeiten wurden von Experten für Umweltschutz begleitet, um nötigenfalls sofort eine Beeinträchtigung
verhindern zu können. Frank Schätzing, der selbst über einen G7 Gipfel schrieb,
besuchte die Elmau und stellte sein aktuelles Buch (Breaking News) vor.
The construction work was accompanied by experts for environment protection, so that in case
of an impairment they could prohibit this immediately. Frank Schätzing, who himself was writing a
book about the G7 summit visited the Elmau and presented his current book „ Breaking News“.

Die eskalierende Ukrainekrise führte zum dauerhaften Ausschluss Russlands
aus der G8. Statt in Sochi, Russlands Olympiaort, wurde kurzfristig
ein G7 Gipfel in Brüssel vom 4. bis zum 5. Juni 2014 veranstaltet.

The escalating Ukraine crisis resulted in the permanent ban of Russia from
the Group of Eight. Instead of Sochi, Russias olympic town, a G7 summit
took place in Brussels from 4th to 5th June 2014.
Aus G8 wird G7
Frankreich fertigte für Russland zwei Mistral-Hubschrauberträger,
die Sewastopol und die Wladiwostok. Aufgrund
der Ukraine Krise und des daraus resultierenden
Waffenembargos durften die Schiffe nicht wie geplant an
Russland ausgeliefert werden. Stattdessen wurden sie
von Frankreich an Ägypten verkauft. Die Fotos entstanden
im Juli 2015 in Frankreich.
Two french helicopter carrier, the Sevastopol and the
Vladivostok, intended to be sold to Russia, have instead
been sold to Egypt. The Ukraine crisis led to an embargo
on weapon exports to Russia. The photos where taken in
France in July 2015.

Westlich des Schlosses wurden zwei Forststrassen miteinander
verbunden. Dadurch wurde ein befahrbarer
Ring geschaffen. Diese Arbeiten erforderten schweres
Gerät und Sprengungen.
Zum Gipfel war diese Strecke nahe Schloss Elmau mit
Zäunen und Postenreihen gesichert. Die Luftlinie betrug
hier nur wenige Hundert Meter.
Rechtzeitig vor Wintereinbruch konnte die Teerfläche
des Hubschrauberlandeplatzes fertiggestellt werden.
Mit dem Wintereinbruch standen viele Baustellen vorerst
still, die Zeitpläne waren aber nie in Gefahr.
September / Oktober 2014
To the west of the castle one connected two forest roads
in order to create a navigable ring. These road works
needed heavy equipment and also the use of explosives.
At the time of the summit this road near castle Elmau was
secured with fences and security. The linear distance
was only a couple of 100 meters.
Accurately timed the tar sheeting of the helicopter landing
area was completed before winter came.
With the arrival of winter many of the construction sites
were put on hold, but the time frame was never in danger.

Der Gipfel brachte auch eine Erweiterung der Mobilfunkversorgung
in der Region, auch hierfür mussten aufwändig
Kabeltrassen angelegt werden.
Während das Gipfelhotel sich der Fertigstellung näherte,
gab es ersten Besuch aus Berlin: Der Sprecher der Bundesregierung
beantwortete Fragen aus der Bevölkerung
November 2014
Due to the summit an expansion of the mobile telephone
system was implemented in the region, this lead to more
demanding construction work on cable routes which had
to be built. While the hotel for the summit was getting its
finishing touches, it also received its first visit from the
capital Berlin: the spokesperson of the Federal Government
answered questions by the general public.
Wenn es schnell gehen muss, ist Improvisationsgeschick gefragt. Ohne dieses wäre manche Baustelle
wohl nicht fertiggeworden. Zur Eröffnung des Mittenwalder Bahnhofs reiste Innenminister
Herrmann an.
If something has to be done fast then one needs to improvise. Without this improvisation some of
the construction sites might not have been completed. For the opening of the renovated train station
in Mittenwald , secretary of the interior Mister Herrmann did the honors.

Perfektes Licht, entscheidend bei den Glasfaserleitungen,
wie auch bei der Halo über den heimischen Bergen.
Auch das Gipfelhotel soll bald in diesem erstrahlen.
An allen Ecken wurde gearbeitet, so auch an der Ferchenseestrasse.

Dezember 2014
Perfect light is what you need, it is not only essential for
the fiber optic cables but also for the halo above the local
mountains. The summit hotel will soon shine in this light
as well. Everywhere work was going on and the Ferchenseeroad
was no exception. And with the end of the construction
also Berry‘s heart ended beating, he was the dog
of the Wildenseehütte.
Die Renovierung des Mittenwalder Rathauses geht voran, auch an der Verkabelung der Elmau wird
eifrig gearbeitet. Matthias Neuner, Chef der Brauerei Mittenwald, eröffnete den neu renovierten
Postkeller. Leider verstarb er kurze Zeit später.
The renovation of the town hall of Mittenwald was still ongoing, and one was also working devotedly
on the wiring in the Elmau. Matthias Neuner (†) , was able to attend the grand opening of the newly
renovated Postkeller.

Mit traumhafter Winterlandschaft begrüßte das Werdenfelser
Land das neue Jahr - und war neugierig auf
die kommenden Monate, die eines der wichtigsten politischen
Ereignisse des Jahres in die Region bringen
werden. Zumindest Waxenstein und Zugspitze scheinen
einen Gruß zum kommenden Gipfel zu senden.
Neujahrsspringen
Silvester
The county of Werdenfels welcomes the New Year with
a splendid winter scenery - it was also inquisitive about
the coming months which would bring one of the most
important political events into its county. The mountains
Waxenstein and Zugspitze send a welcome greeting to
the summit.
Das traditionelle Neujahrsspringen ist ein Höhepunkt der Vierschanzentournee und, wie jedes Jahr,
hervorragend besucht. Die Erfahrung mit Großereignissen wird allen Beteiligten in den nächsten
Monaten zugute kommen.
The traditional New Year‘s ski-jumping event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the highlight of the Four
Jump Tour and as every year at lot of visitors attended the event. The experience with major events
will come to good use in the coming months.

Das „Stop G7“ Bündnis beginnt seine Aufklärungsarbeit
in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Die Garmischer zeigen sich
sehr interessiert.
Im Kranzberggebiet über Mittenwald ist schönstes Winterwetter,
das zum Wintersport einlädt.
Januar 2015
The „Stop G7“ alliance starts their work as awareness
trainers in Garmisch- Partenkirchen. The population of
Garmisch shows great interest. In the Kranzberg region
above Mittenwald one finds great winter weather which
invites to do winter sport activities.
In Wallgau findet die Bürgerversammlung statt. Hierbei wird auch von der Polizei umfassend über
die Vorgänge und Planungen informiert.
In Wallgau there are open councils, the police are informing the public extensively about the planning
and the procedures which are being implemented.

Die Gemeinderatssitzungen unter dem Bürgermeister
Thomas Schwarzenberger werden thematisch immer
G7-lastiger.
Das „Stop G7“ Bündnis beginnt mit den ersten Presseveranstaltungen
und tritt zunehmend öffentlich in
Erscheinung.
Februar 2015
The council meetings held by mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger
are thematically ever more concentrated on
the G7 summit. The „Stop G7“ alliance is starting their
first official press activities and are more and more in the
public.
Regelmäßig werden die Funkmasten überprüft, egal bei welcher Wetterlage. Das „Stop G7“ Bündnis
stellt sich in Mittenwald den Fragen der Bevölkerung. Zur Information für die Wirtschaft findet in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen ein Infoabend mit dem Bürgermeister von Bad Doberan statt.
Regularly the radio communication poles are being controlled, no matter what the weather might
be. The „Stop G7“ alliance is in Mittenwald to answer questions by the public. The economy of the
region is being informed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen by the mayor of Bad Doberan.

Um Stromausfällen am BOS Mast Burgberg vorzubeugen
soll dort ein Notstromaggregat mit großem Aufwand
hinauf transportiert werden.
Bei schwierigsten Bedingungen erwies sich das
Geländefahrzeug der Mittenwalder Bergwacht, der
„Pinzgauer“, als treuer Kamerad.
Funk Lasttest des BOS
März 2015
To guard against power failure at the BOS pole Burgberg
one has to transport an emergency backup generator to
the site. This has to be done with great effort. Since the
terms and conditions weren‘t the best one of the vehicles
of the Mittenwald mountain rescue team had to do the
job. It‘s name is Pinzgauer and it mastered the job tremendously.
Gleich mehrere Rekorde dürfte der Belastungstest des neuen digitalen Behördenfunks gebrochen
haben. Einer der längsten Blaulichtkonvois, eine der größten Gruppenaufnahmen und nicht zuletzt
die Herausforderung, alle Teilnehmer zu verköstigen.
Probably more than one record was broken when the endurance test of the digital authorities radio
communication system was being held. One of the longest flashing blue light convoys, one of the
biggest group pictures and last but not least the challenge of having to feed the masses.

Bei den Arbeiten am Mobilfunknetz bietet sich ein einmaliger
Blick von oben. Am Mittenwalder Rathaus wiederum
der letzte Blick auf die Lüftlmalereien, die nun unter der
Wärmedämmung verschwinden.
Dietmar Müller Elmau stellt sein Buch über die Geschichte
der Elmau im großen Saal des Schlosses vor.
Mobilfunk Ausbau März 2015
While working on the mobile communications network
one has an exclusive view from above, to see the art
fresco painting on the town hall of Mittenwald which will
soon be covered by a thermal insulation. Mister Dietmar
Müller Elmau presents his book about the history of
Elmau in the great hall of the castle.
Auf der Bürgerversammlung in Mittenwald stellt der Präsident der Bundespolizei sein Konzept zur
Grenzsicherung vor. Es ist der Tag der Einweihung der EZB mit schweren Krawallen, entsprechend
angespannt ist der Präsident der Landespolizei.
At the open council in Mittenwald the president of the federal law enforcement introduced his concept
of how to protect the borders. It is also the day of the inauguration of ECB with a lot of heavy
riots and therefore the president of the county police is quite tense.
