Volleyball
The DSP has been involved with a lot of Volleyball in 2016.
“Goliath Cup” high school league: The DSP boys played league
games against various schools from all over Gauteng during
Saturday league games from January to March. The league ended
with an evening at Fourways High School with the top four teams
fighting for the top spot. After a nail-biter final, the DSP brought
home silver.
Sportolympiade: Es wurde viel geübt für die Sportolympiade
im März. Die Mädchen haben große Fortschritte gemacht und
waren ein Team, das nicht zu unterschätzen war. Die Jungs waren
her vor ragend vorbereitet und haben die Gegner reihum in
beeindruckenden Wettkämpfen geschlagen. Die Zuschauermassen
im letzten Spiel wurden nicht enttäuscht und waren genauso
begeistert wie die DSP Jungs von dem wohlverdienten Volleyball
Olympia sieg.
Mafikeng: The annual Volleyball Festival at the International School
of South Africa (ISSA) is one of the most prestigious high school
volleyball events in our country which also attracts school teams
from our neighbouring countries. The DSP participated for the
first time this year and travelled to Mafikeng from 7-9 August. Mr
Chepape accompanied the u19 boys on their successful trip. They
can be exceptionally proud of their bronze medal. Individual awards
of best setter went to Heiko Damaske and MVP to Tobias Damaske.
This is an outstanding achievement!
TuksVolleyball High School Tournament: With almost 50 teams
competing on one day, the Tuks Tournament is an event not to be
missed. The DSP u16 boys, u19 boys and u19 girls participated this
year on 10 September. Under the guidance of Coach Munatsi the
u16 boys earned a silver medal while the u19 boys fought hard in
the finals against AISJ and can proudly add another gold medal to
their 2016 selection.
Friendlies: Obwohl die DSP dieses Jahr nicht am AISJ Turnier
teilgenommen hat, haben wir zwei Mal die Amerikanische Schule
zu Trainingsspielen besucht. Die DSP hat auch Freundschaftsspiele
gegen Tuks gespielt. Die Mädchen von St Mary’s DSG waren auch
einmal bei der DSP zu einem Trainingsspiel.
National Champions Cup: Heiko Damaske hat für das Tuks-
Volleyball Team im September am Nationalen Club Turnier in
Durban teilgenommen. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
Beach Volleyball
Future Stars u23 Tournament: At the u23 provincial beach
volleyball championships in Port Elizabeth in April, Tobias and
Heiko Damaske were selected to represent Gauteng. After a very
strong performance in the group stages of the competition, they
were unfortunately knocked out by the other Gauteng team.
GVU: Während des Jahres gab es eine Serie von Beach Turnieren,
organisiert von der Gauteng Volleyball Union. Zwei der Turniere
haben an der DSP stattgefunden. Es war sehr schön, dass auch
einige Schüler der DSP hieran teilgenommen haben. Bei dem
Turnier am 16. Oktober wurde Heiko Damaske Sieger (zusammen
mit Colin Pocock, der 2004 Südafrika in der Olympischen Spielen
vertreten hat). Und am 13. November haben Tobias und Heiko als
Team zusammen das GVU Turnier gewonnen.
Flying Fish National Beach Volleyball Series: Tobias and Heiko
Damaske participated in the VSA National beach series. As youngest
players in the series they surprised many experienced teams with
their endless energy and determination in the sand.
DSP beach liga: Mit den neuen Lichtern bei den Beach
Volleyball Plätzen auf dem Schwimmbadgelände sind
Donnerstagabende nun für die Beachvolleyball Liga
reserviert. 16 Teams haben sich von September bis
Dezember dort im Sand getroffen.
