BALL SPORTS DAY – 20 AUGUST 2016
Another sports day has come and gone. Many people have said
to me that I’m sure I’m glad that it’s all over. However, the truth is
that while it takes a lot of time and effort to put a morning of such
magnitude together it is always an enjoyable morning and I can’t
help but feel a sense of DSP unity as friends and family get together
to support all those taking part. I thought the day was successful.
My goal was for mass participation and for everyone to have fun
and I think, overall, this was achieved.
Almost all of the learners attended. To those who perhaps
decided at the last minute not to take part: I hope you realise that
you let your team down and that they really needed you and that
your attendance and participation would have made a difference.
Maybe next year you can make more of an effort and commit to
being there and taking part.
I always like putting together some stats to put the event into
perspective. This year 6 sports were included:
• Basketball: 8 teams, 6 matches
• Handball: 8 teams, 20 matches
• Netball: 3 teams, 6 matches
• Soccer: 23 teams, 63 matches
• Völkerball: 16 teams, 40 matches
• Volleyball: 7 teams, 21 matches
In total 61 teams took part and 156 matches were played from 8:00-
12:00! Matches varied in length but to include every single learner
of the school and to have a variety of sports definitely create a
unique event and as a school I think we can be proud of what has
been achieved.
A day like this could not be possible without the input of various
role players. I would like to thank maintenance and ground staff.
They had to mark all the fields, put out tables, chairs, umbrellas
and notice boards. It’s a lot of work, plus they have to pack up
again at the end of the day. Thank you very much; we rely on these
tasks being done for us and they are always carried out without
complaining. Thank you to Frau Lange and the tuck shop ladies for
happily catering for us. Thank you to my sports colleagues. It seems
as if the more challenges we are faced with, the tighter we become
as a team and that’s great to see. Thanks go to Mr Kowalsky for
organising the Basketball, Mr Chepape for running the Handball, Ms
Löwe for doing the Volleyball, Mr Freire for organising the Soccer
and Mrs Breytenbach for coordinating the Vorschule to Grade 2
activities. All sports were efficiently managed and this is much
appreciated. I would like to thank all of the teachers for their input
into making the day such a success. Thank you to all of the learners
for participating, and for giving of your best. I hope you all enjoyed
the day.
