Fünf Fragen an Nicola Moczek
Five questions for Nicola Moczek
■ When and why did the Geothermics
Congress come into being?
The first Geothermics Conference took place
in Berlin in 1991. Our congresses create a
platform for business and science. The
industry’s growth is mirrored by a constantly
growing attendance rate, and the event at
Ruhr-Congress Bochum in 2009 attracted
around 600 people. Because of the surge in
pressing topics we deliberately switched
from a biennial to an annual event schedule
back in 2003.
■ Could you shortly describe what
topics took priority in 2009 and
explain them?
In the field of near-surface geothermics we
triggered a cross-industry initiative with a
focus on anti-water pollution, the certification
of drilling and well construction firms,
rights and regulations, and further research
needs, among other things. For this we put
a range of sessions in a workshop format
on the agenda in Bochum.
■ What are the crucial criteria
when you select a venue for the
Geothermics Congress?
Proximity to the sector and science, plus a
positive political environment.
Unsere Kongresse geben
Forschungsbedarf geht.
Hand investiert in Nordrhein-
■ What are Bochum’s hallmarks as
a congress destination?
Excellent connections with Ruhr Uni
Bochum and the University of Applied
Sciences, the great co-operation with
Bochum’s Geothermics Centre, EnergieAgentur.NRW,
metropoleruhr GmbH economic
development corporation, and the city of
Bochum. In addition, many geothermics
companies are based in North Rhine
Westphalia.
■ What future prospects do you
see for the Geothermics Congress?
German companies and scientists lead the
way in many fields of geothermics. Therefore
we would like to establish the Geothermics
Congress as a central event in Europe in the
medium term. Making it more international
is the obvious way to go, as German
companies in our industry now increasingly
work abroad to meet world-wide demand
for their expertise.
second-largest geothermics
association with 900 members.
■ Was zeichnet Bochum als Kongress-
Standort aus?
Die hervorragende Anbindung an die
Ruhr-Uni Bochum und die Fachhochschule,
die sehr gute Zusammenarbeit mit
dem GeothermieZentrum Bochum, der
EnergieAgentur.NRW, der Wirtschaftsförderung
metropoleruhr GmbH und der
Stadt Bochum. Dazu kommt, dass zahlreiche
Geothermie-Unternehmen in NRW
angesiedelt sind.
■ Welche Zukunftsperspektiven sehen
Sie für den Geothermiekongress?
Die deutschen Unternehmen und Wissenschaftler
sind führend in vielen Bereichen
der Geothermie. Deshalb wollen wir mittelfristig
den Geothermiekongress als zentrale
Veranstaltung in Europa etablieren. Die weitere
Internationalisierung liegt nahe, denn
zunehmend sind deutsche Unternehmen
aus unserer Branche im Ausland tätig – ihre
Expertise ist weltweit gefragt.
