Gut so!
Hoppe-Kilpper fest, Kompetenznetzwerk Dezentrale Energietechnologien.
Das ist Wasser auf deutsche Meeting-Mühlen, wie Kassel auf internationaler
Ebene beweist: 2011 kommt
der ISES Solar World Congress ins
Kongress Palais, zuletzt in Johannes-
burg. Chapeau!
Um Wirtschafts- und Wissenszentren
vor Ort mit der Meetingbranche
zu vernetzen und gemeinsam Inhalte
für Veranstaltungen zu identifizieren,
braucht es Türöffner. Das GCB
bildet dafür die nationale Marketing-Basis,
hat die Schnittstellen von
Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Politik
im Blick. Das Potenzial zu heben, ist
Sache der Mitglieder. Die deutsche
Meetingwirtschaft könnte ihre einzigartigen
Wissens- und Kompetenzzentren
vor der Haustüre noch viel
mehr als inhaltliche Anknüpfungspunkte
herausstellen. Kassel hat die
Blaupause dafür geliefert. Dazu wirkt
die Green-Globe-Zertifizierung des
Kongress Palais, von Feigenblatt weit
entfernt, nachhaltig glaubwürdig.
Away with fig leaves!
■ The end of confusing standards is
nigh – thanks to the arrival of the ISO
standard for sustainable event
management. As of 2012 it will be the
effective international norm - a
milestone we cannot rate highly
enough. Those who – demonstrably –
act green, will get certified and talk
about it, while the others will prefer to
remain silent. Water-saving flush
systems or conference badges out of
maize starch laminate are just green
fig leaves, if they remain isolated
measures. Away they will blow, once
competitors get certified and serious.
And rightly so!
Germany has already reinforced its
high image ratings and credibility in
the field of sustainability by its
credentials as a green high-tech
stronghold. Dr. Martin Hoppe-Kilpper
of the Decentralised Energy Technologies
network puts it plainly: “In the
field of renewable energies Germany is
the technology world champion.” That’s
all gist to German meeting mills, as
Kassel shows on an international level:
In 2011 the ISES Solar World
Congress will take place at its
Kongress Palais. The solar experts last
opted for Johannesburg. Respect!
To network local business and science
hubs with the meetings industry and
identify contents for events together,
we need mediators, door openers and
ambassadors. The German Convention
Bureau is the national marketing
platform for this. The GCB focuses on
the interfaces with business, science
and politics and can pave the way to
(prospective) customers. Making the
most of this potential is up to the
members. The German meeting
industry could use its unique local
knowledge and expertise centres a lot
more for sourcing themes. Kassel set a
good example. The Green Globe
certification of its Kongress Palais
generates publicity and blows all fig
leaves to the wind.
