„Weltweit die
Nummer zwei“
Lutz P. Vogt, scheidender Geschäftsführer des
German Convention Bureau (GCB), zieht Bilanz.
■ CIM: Herr Vogt, Sie verlassen auf eigenen
Wunsch Ende Februar 2010 das
GCB – was sind Ihre Beweggründe?
welche bleiben Ihrem Nachfolger?
Ich habe alle meine Ziele erreicht. Sowohl
die Mitgliedszahlen als auch die Zufriedenheit
der Mitglieder ist gewachsen. Eine
Neuausrichtung des GCB ist erfolgt, während
die Fluktuationsrate äußerst gering gehalten
wurde. Das GCB verfügt über zufriedene,
motivierte und hoch qualifizierte Mitarbeiter.
Die Etablierung der Leitmesse
imex in Deutschland war ein besonderer Erfolg.
Zudem sind viele neue und erfolgreiche
Marketing- und Verkaufsaktivitäten angestoßen
worden. Dazu gehört die Einführung
eines Customer Advisory Board. Deutschland
ist im Meetingbereich jetzt weltweit die
Nummer zwei, europaweit an erster Stelle.
Dazu haben wir eine solide Finanzbasis in
einem wirtschaftlich gesunden Unternehmen
geschaffen.
Hemmnisse?
Wir dürften zwar die Talsohle erreicht haben,
aber leichter wird es dennoch nicht.
Die Buchungszahlen für die imex sehen sehr
■ CIM: Mr. Vogt, you decided to
leave the GCB – for what reasons?
Lutz P. Vogt: The reason is quite simple:
I was offered a partial retirement contract
by my employer, Deutsche Lufthansa
AG. Opportunities like this are few and far
between and that’s why I had to make this
very difficult decision. I really liked working
for the GCB, but it is now time perhaps
to leave the field to the younger generation
who come with new perspectives and can
contribute new ideas.
■ Which of your goals did you
realise, and which will you leave to
your successor?
I achieved all of my goals. Both member
figures and our members’ satisfaction have
increased. The GCB has seen a reorientation,
while we were able to keep the fluctuation
level very low. The GCB has satisfied,
motivated and highly qualified members.
The establishment of imex as a leading
trade show in Germany was a special
achievement. And many new and successful
marketing and sales activities were got
underway such as the launch of a Custom-
GCB GERMANY
zufriedenstellend aus. Wir müssen weiterhin
das im Vergleich zu anderen europäischen
Ländern äußerst gute Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis
wie auch die Perfektion und
Professionalität beibehalten und stetig weiterentwickeln.
Was raten Sie Ihrem Nachfolger?
Bewahren Sie sich die sehr hohe Qualität
der GCB-Mitarbeiter! FW
“Number two worldwide”
Lutz P. Vogt, outgoing Managing Director of the German
Convention Bureau (GCB), takes stock.
er Advisory Board. Germany is now number
two world-wide in the meetings segment
and Europe’s number one. For this we have
created a sound financial basis in an economically
healthy organisation. And not to
forget the introduction of a sponsoring concept.
■ What were the bright spots for
the German meetings industry in –
the for many – crisis-ridden 2009?
The bright spots were that hardly any organisations
left the GCB, that almost none
of our members had to file for insolvency
and that, all in all, the industry held its own
on the market and can face the future with
new strength.
■ Where will things be looking up
for our business in 2010?
We are probably out of the wood but things
won’t get any easier. The booking figures for
imex look very satisfactory. We must maintain
our excellent price/performance ratio
compared to other European countries and
our perfection and professionalism and
continue to develop it even further. FW
