1921 darf BMW gemäß den Bestimmungen des
Versailler Vertrags nur Stationärmotoren für
den zivilen Bedarf produzieren. Aber auch diese
werden mit der bereits bekannten Qualität
angefertigt. Prägend für die Werbemotive ist die
Zeichnung des Flugmotors BMW IIIa. Ohne
Produktvorzüge oder Verkaufsargumente zu
nennen, ist nur eine Szene mit Flugzeugen
und Booten zu sehen. Unten in den Kreisen der
„Bayern-Flugmotor“ BMW IIIa (links) und
der „Bayern-Bootsmotor“ M4A12 (rechts).
Advertising without words.
In 1921 the terms of the Treaty of Versailles still dictated
that BMW was only permitted to produce stationary
engines for civilian use. But these too were produced in
the now familiar quality. A striking feature of the advert
is the drawing of the BMW IIIa aero engine. There is no
mention of the product’s virtues or selling points, just
a scene depicting aircraft and boats. Circled at the foot
of the ad are the BMW IIIa “Bavaria aero engine” (left)
and M4A12 “Bavaria marine engine” (right).
