A. R. Penck gestaltete als erster deutscher
Künstler ein BMW Art Car. Er bemalte 1991 einen
BMW Z1 als 11. Fahrzeug der BMW Art Car Collection.
Dabei nutzte er die für ihn typische, zeichenhafte
Formensprache. Der Künstler: „Kunst auf
Kunst, Kunst auf Technik – das hat mich interessiert
– vor allem Kunst auf einem plastischen
Objekt“. Für A. R. Penck war der BMW Z1 an sich
bereits eine künstlerische Arbeit, in der sich
die Kreativität und Fantasie der Ingenieure und
Designer widerspiegelte.
Ethnic look on wheels.
A. R. Penck was the first German artist to design a BMW
Art Car. In 1991 he painted a BMW Z1 which became
the 11th model in the BMW Art Car Collection. He drew
on the abstract formal language that characterised his
work. In the artist’s words: “Art on art, art on technology –
that is what interested me, above all art on a sculptural
object.” For A. R. Penck, the BMW Z1 was in itself
already a work of art that reflected the creativity and
imagination of the engineers and designers.
