1989 gestaltete Ken Done, prominenter austra -
lischer Maler und Graphik-Designer, einen
BMW M3, der bereits im australischen Motorsport
erfolgreich war: 1987 gewann Jim Richards mit
ihm die Fahrermeisterschaft in der australischen
Gruppe A. Optimistisch und farbenfroh soll seine
Bemalung einerseits etwas von der Faszination
der Geschwindigkeit ausdrücken, andererseits
soll sie typisch australisch wirken. Und so zieren
abstrakte Papageien und Papageienfische das
Rennsportfahrzeug: „Beide sind schön und
bewegen sich mit phantastischer Geschwindigkeit.
Ich wollte, dass mein Art Car dasselbe zum
Ausdruck bringt.“
Flights of fancy.
In 1989 the renowned Australian artist and graphic
designer Ken Done designed a BMW M3 that had
already made its name in Australian motorsport. In 1987,
Jim Richards had come first in Group A of the Australian
Drivers’ Championship in this car. With its upbeat and
highly colourful bodywork, the idea was to express
the fascination of speed on the one hand, and evoke a
characteristically Australian impression on the other.
And so the racing car came to be embellished with
parrots and parrot fish: “Both are beautiful and move at
fantastic speed. I wanted my Art Car to convey the
same impression.”
