Die BMW Motorsport GmbH stellte 1978 den
M1 als erstes Modell der BMW M Reihe vor.
Er wurde als Rennwagen entwickelt, aber auch
in Kleinserie als Straßenversion produziert.
Die alltagstaug liche Version fand schnell Freunde.
Kurze Zeit später folgten 1984 der BMW M5 und
1986 der BMW M3. Der BMW M3 wurde weltweit
schnell zum erfolgreichsten Tourenwagen im
Motorsport. In der Kommunikation setzt man auf
die bewährte Gegenüberstellung von Renn- und
Serienfahrzeug.
M – in a class of its own.
The M1 unveiled by BMW Motorsport GmbH in 1978
was the first ever model from the BMW M range.
Developed as a racing car, it was also produced in small
numbers for everyday use. The road-spec version
soon gained an enthusiastic following, and was followed
not long after by the arrival of the M5 in 1984 and M3
in 1986. The BMW M3 quickly became the most
successful touring car on the track. Marketing activities
centred on the tried and tested method of lining up
the race and road-trim models side-by-side.
