Unter der Regie der BMW Tochter BMW M GmbH
wird auf der IAA 1985 das erste M Modell der
BMW 3er Reihe vorgestellt. Es schlägt als Basisfahrzeug
für den Rennsport gleichzeitig die
Brücke zum sportlichen, alltagstauglichen Automobil
– und wird zum erfolgreichsten Touren -
wagen im Motorsport. Mit seinem geringen
Gewicht von nur 1.200 kg und angetrieben von
einem Vierzylinder-Reihenmotor mit 2.302 ccm
Hubraum, beschleunigt das Fahrzeug dank
143 kW/195 PS bis zu einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit
von 235 km/h. Und auch in der Werbung
präsentiert man sich selbstbewusst: Da gibt es
nichts mehr zu tunen.
Race performance for the road.
The first M version of the BMW 3 Series was unveiled
by BMW subsidiary BMW M GmbH at the 1985
International Motor Show in Frankfurt. As the basic
model for the race track, it bridged the gap between
racing cars and sporty models for everyday use – and
became the most successful racing touring car in
the business. Tipping the scales at just 1,200 kg and
powered by a 2,302 cc 4-cylinder in-line engine
developing 143 kW/195 hp, it accelerated to a top
speed of 235 km/h. The advertising presented an
equally confident front: there was “nothing left to tune”.
