Mit dem BMW 700 Coupé beginnt der Aufbruch in
eine neue BMW Automobil-Ära. Erstmals nach
1945 wird ein Mittelklassewagen entwickelt, der
vier Personen mit Gepäck Platz bietet und dabei
wie ein „richtiges“ Auto aussieht. Das schnittige
kleine 2 + 2 Coupé kommt gut an und wird wie auf
dem Plakat unten ganz pragmatisch beworben:
„Luftgekühlter 700 ccm Viertakt-Boxermotor –
30 PS, leistungsstark, formschön, raumgünstig.
Vollsynchronisiertes Vierganggetriebe. Großer
Innenraum, viel Platz für Gepäck“.
First-class mid-range car.
The BMW 700 Coupé heralded the dawn of a new era
for BMW cars. For the first time since 1945 the company
had developed a mid-range car, one which could
accommodate four people and their luggage and cut
the mustard as a “proper” car. The stylish and compact
2 + 2 Coupé was warmly received and backed up
by some to-the-point advertising. The poster below
was a good example: “Air-cooled, 700 cc four-stroke
boxer engine, powerful (with 30 hp), attractive design,
spacious. Fully synchronised four-speed gearbox. Large
interior, considerable room for luggage”.
