Stowarzyszenie Dolina Karpiafunkcjonuje na obszarze siedmiu gmin:Brzeźnica, Spytkowice i Tomice (powiatwadowicki) oraz Osiek, Polanka Wielka,Przeciszów i Zator (powiat oświęcimski).Jego powołanie było konsekwencjąwieloletniej aktywności lokalnych środowisk,przede wszystkim jednosteksamorządu terytorialnego, przedsiębiorcówi osób z sektora społecznego(w tym osób z sektora rybactwa śródlądowego).Na tym wyjątkowym obszarze,zwanym Doliną Karpia, początkigospodarki stawowej sięgają XIII wieku.Tradycje chowu i hodowli karpiapielęgnowane są od pokoleń, co w połączeniuz wyjątkowymi właściwościamiśrodowiska przyrodniczego pozwoliłona uzyskanie karpi odznaczającychsię specyficznymi właściwościami.
