[renewables Industry]Switching to renewablesThe capital of wind energy in Germany is still Husum, where HUSUMWind, a trade fair with a convention aimed at the German market, istaking place from 15 to 18 September 2015. “HUSUM Wind presentsGerman wind energy in the context of the switch to renewable energy,with its opportunities and challenges for companies, politiciansand consumers. As a leading platform, we want to encourage an interdisciplinaryexchange,” says Peter Becker, Managing Director ofMesse Husum und Congress. Alternating with this, WindEnergy Hamburgwill be held at Hamburg Messe in even years and for the firsttime from 23 to 26 September 2014. It will be the world’s largest internationalwind trade fair.Another international event, Intersolar Europe, attracted around50,000 visitors and 1,330 exhibitors from 47 countries to MesseMünchen from 19 to 21 June 2013. 2,000 delegates attended the IntersolarEurope Conference at the ICM, at which 400 papers were presented.Among the issues discussed were protective tariffs for Chinesesolar modules in Europe and the Mediterranean Solar Plan.Kassel boasts a clear commitment to renewable energy and is alsothe home of SMA and Viessmann. The “100% Renewable EnergiesRegions” convention was held for the fifth time from 24 to 25 September2013 at the Kongress Palais Kassel. “700 delegates came tothe largest German networking event of the 100% Renewable EnergiesRegions,” says Benjamin Dannemann of Kompetenznetzwerkdezentrale Energietechnologien, which also organises WindtageBrandenburg, Windtage NRW and Windmesse Erfurt.The German Biogas Association is an important organiser of renewableenergy events, including its flagship biogas-expo & congress,which was again held at Messe Offenburg-Ortenau from 23 to 24 October2013. The metropolitan region of Oberrhein offers a bilingualplatform for biogas. In addition to the European Biomass Association,the equivalent French and Swiss associations meet here. Technologytransfer is an issue that is growing in importance.Freiburg is making a significant impression as a green city andfollowed up the Solar Summit Freiburg on 23 October with the annualconference of the German Renewable Energy Research Associationfrom 24 to 25 October 2013. The Center for Renewable Energy of theUniversity of Freiburg offers master’s programmes in renewable energymanagement and photovoltaic technology.The Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo at Koelnmesssefrom 3 to 5 June 2014 will provide a comprehensive overview of thisgrowth market.
