Sie kennen die Herausforderungenseit Jahrzehnten. Aber es wird nichts getan.Deswegen heißt unsere Kampagne auch„Stop talking. Start planting.“ Jeder Menschkann Bäume pflanzen. Stell Dir vor, wir schaffenes als Menschheit, gemeinsam 1.000 MilliardenBäume als CO2-Speicher zu pflanzen.Wir würden auch alle anderen Herausforderungengemeinsam anpacken.Was beschäftigt die Jugendlichen, wastreibt Euch an?Eigentlich ist uns allen doch klar, was wirtun müssen: Weniger CO2 rauspusten undmehr Fairness den Armen gegenüber. Wirwollen uns die Zukunft nicht von Lobbyistenund Klimaskeptikern kaputt machenlassen. Deswegen bilden wir andere Kinderzu Botschaftern für Klimagerechtigkeitaus und pflanzen so viele Bäume, wie möglich.Für 1.000 Milliarden neue Bäume habenwir Platz auf der Erde. Sobald wir diesegepflanzt haben, würden diese ein Vierteldes menschgemachten CO2 binden unduns damit einen Zeitjoker verschaffen. Parallelkönnen wir endlich weltweit verbindlicheVerträge schließen, mit dem Ziel Wohlstandauch ohne CO2 zu produzieren.Du kennst Dich nach dutzenden Veranstaltungenals Redner aus: Was können Veranstalterbesser machen?Das Thema Nachhaltigkeit gehört auf jedeVeranstaltung. Ganz einfach und auf praktischjeder Veranstaltung möglich ist, dassein Kind zwei bis fünf Minuten spricht unddie Teilnehmer bittet, Bäume zu pflanzen. Inden Pausen können die Teilnehmer Baumversprechenabgeben und das Ergebniswird am Ende verkündet. Damit ist ein ersterSchritt getan. Viele Hundert Kinder haltengenauso wie ich regelmäßig Vorträge.Wir haben gemerkt, dass es sehr gut ankommt,wenn ein Kind auf einer Veranstaltungspricht und so die Teilnehmer – two most important challenges, while adults have completely differentpriorities.Talking about the environment you say: “We children have a problem:We pay for your mistakes, but you will be dead by then!”What does your generation expect from the adults?The adults must finally stop talking and start taking action. Theyhave known the challenges for decades. But nothing is being done.That’s why the motto of our campaign is “Stop talking. Start planting.”Anybody can plant a tree. Just imagine if all of us humansmanaged to plant 1,000 billion trees to remove and store CO2 together.We would also handle all other challenges together.What are the main concerns of young people, what drives you?Well, we all know what we have to do: breathe out less CO2 andtreat the poor with more fairness. We don’t want lobbyists and climatesceptics to ruin our future. That’s why we train other childrento become ambassadors for climate justice and plant as many treesas possible. We have space on earth for 1,000 billion new trees.As soon as we have planted them, they would bind one-quarter ofhuman-made carbon dioxide, which will give us a time joker. At thesame time, we can at last sign binding treaties worldwide with theaim of generating prosperity even without CO2.After dozens of events as a speaker you know the business well:What can organisers do better?Sustainability is a topic that should be part of any event. One simpleand practical solution for any event would be to let a child talkfor two to five minutes and ask the delegates to plant trees. In thebreaks delegates could make pledges to plant and the result wouldbe announced at the end. That would be a first step.Many hundreds of children are regularly invited to lecture justlike me. We have noticed that it is very well-received when a childspeaks at an event, so that delegates – be they engineers, doctorsor politicians – can at last see the world through our eyes for twominutes.What can older people learn from the young?That’s difficult for me to judge, but I think we children are a lot morepersistent and uncompromising than adults. If we know that we canonly exhale a certain amount of CO2 until temperatures rise by 2°C,that nuclear power is life-threatening and uncontrollable, but thatthe sun, water and wind give us energy for free, we will make theenergy change happen and get the lobbyists to shut up.In addition, we children have a completely different view ofthe future. Adults probably think that what will happen in 30 yearsneed not concern them anymore.CIM 6/201321
