A promising market: China, for example, will not be able to satisfy the demand for the
2008 Olympics, making imports of 200,000 to 300,000 metric tons of pork necessary.
The UAE’s food market is among the largest and most
dynamic growth markets in the region. According to a
study, food and food products worth 4.36 bn US dollars
were consumed there in 2005. Additional growth considerably
higher than the rates typical of developed markets
(+11% annually until 2012) is predicted for the next
fi ve years. Dubai, a commercial centre, is the engine of
economic activity, and also serves an important role in
the food economy as a hub.
Opportunities for Austrian food products have also
been created by the growing popularity of Western products,
especially if they are organic. At present, up to 80%
of the food consumed locally is imported. As a result of
the sharp rise in per-capita income in the UAE, the demand
for high-quality Foods and beverages has kept
pace.
The Austrian foods with the most potential are organic
products, frozen vegetables, honey, cooking oil, ready-toeat
desserts, muesli and breakfast cereals, and alcoholic
and energy drinks. Typically Austrian food and drink, especially
wine, can also fi nd a niche in the growing segment
of tourism of an international standard. Another
major event for Austrian food producers is being planned
for May 2008 in New York.
Wine for example
in China Rechnung. Am 18. November 2007 wurde die
erste Lebensmittelpräsentation „Ferne Märkte“ in Dubai /
Vereinigte Arabische Emirate veranstaltet.
Potenzial für Nahrungsmittel „made in Austria“ sieht
in Planung.
