Eighteen percent of the Landhof Group’s revenue comes
from exports of sausage and smoked ham to Germany,
Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands
and Sweden.
Delicious exports: Austria’s largest processor of potatoes,
Frisch & Frost, employs a staff of 250 that works
with approximately 90,000 metric tons of the root vegetable
annually. Foreign markets are becoming increasingly
important, already representing about 40% of total turnover.
“Sales on the German market in particular have
progressed in an extremely positive direction”, said managing
director Gerfried Pichler. Sweet dishes produced
by this Hollabrunn company, such as fi lled yeast
dumplings and apple strudel, are extremely popular on
the German market.
Cheese from northern Austria to Russia and Saudi Arabia:
the past business year was entirely satisfactory for Die
Käsemacher of the Waldviertel region, as it saw turnover of
approximately 18 mn euros. “Thanks to hard work and perseverance,
we managed to get into the export markets of
Germany, Italy and the Benelux countries”, said marketing
head Thomas Jungreithmayr. There was considerable
growth in business in the Czech Republic, 60%. “The next
foreign markets we have our sights on are Russia and Saudi
Arabia”, he revealed. Die Käsemacher already export their
products to the USA and Japan.
The export quota of spice manufacturer Almi of Oftering
is no less than 80%. Spices used in the production of
meat products are sold in Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa,
and other countries as well. The decision to start exporting
was a survival strategy, according to managing director
Heinz Mittermayr.
With its export quota of 80%, Leeb Biomilch GmbH of
Schlierbach, which processes organic milk, spreads the culture
of Upper Austrian food around the world.
The Landfrisch dairy, thanks to a line of excellent products,
already makes 50% of its turnover with exports, and
is currently exploring markets as far away as Japan. The
new est member of the production programme is a roll of
unripened cheese with wasabi.
Viennese jam tickles Chinese palates: the products of
jam specialist Hans Staud in Vienna’s Ottakring district is
consumed in great quantity at the luxury hotels of Shanghai
and Hong Kong. Staud has Europe’s managers to thank
for that: they repeatedly asked for the company’s jam on
business trips.
Forty percent of production is already being exported,
and Staud has turnover of around nine million euros.
At present, 35 employees fi ll jars with either sweet jam or
pickled vegetables, and expansion is planned for 2008. No
less than 200 farmers are on Staud’s shopping list.
Last year, jam and fruit-juice producer Darbo of Tyrol’s
lowlands increased turnover to 93 mn euros, growth of six
percent. Darbo now exports its specialities to a total of 62
countries. The unique low-calorie jams, the new Fruchtikus
fruit snack and the fruit syrups are already popular on the
German market.
Confection manufacturer Manner is pleased at the
strong growth in its export quotas. Its Cologne subsidiary’s
50 Prozent. Neben zahlreichen Dauerwurstspezialitäten
(„Bergsteiger“, „Polnische Spezial“, „Schönbrunner“) zählen
seit einigen Jahren auch Schinkenprodukte der Spitzenklasse
zu den Verkaufshits des Unternehmens.
Die Landhof-Gruppe erzielt 18 Prozent ihres Erlöses mit
dem Export von Wurst- und Schinkenspezialitäten nach
Deutschland, Ungarn, Tschechien, in die Slowakei, die Niederlande
und nach Schweden.

wie Germknödel, Apfelstrudel oder Topfennockerln
sind im deutschen Lebensmittelhandel sehr gefragt.
Waldviertler Käse nach Russland und Saudi-Arabien:
Zufriedenstellend ist das vergangene Geschäftsjahr für die
Waldviertler Firma Die Käsemacher verlaufen. Sie erwirtschaftete
einen Umsatz von rund 18 Millionen Euro. „Durch
beharrliches Arbeiten haben wir die Exportmärkte Deutschland,
Italien und die Beneluxstaaten erschlossen“, sagt
Marketingleiter Thomas Jungreithmayr. Einen beachtlichen
Zuwachs um 60 Prozent hat man in Tschechien erzielt. „Die
nächsten Auslandsmärkte, auf denen wir Fuß fassen wollen,
sind Russland und Saudi-Arabien“, kündigt Jungreith-
