Description
One step activated sluge process with intermidient or alternating denitri-
The classical procedure is simultaneous de-nitrification in a non-separated activation ba-
sin. As a rule, one requires fully mixed or circulation basins for this purpose. Control on
the basis of the ammonia/NOx concentration is recommended, in accordance with which a
different number of aeration devices are automatically switched on or off. In another varia-
tion, the activation basin is divided into cyclically varied oxic and anoxic zones. During
alternating or intermittent nitrification/de-nitrification, separate basins are available. During
the alternating operational method, the individual, sequentially arranged basins are oper-
ated alternatingly on an aerobic or anoxic basis, simultaneously switching the inflow of the
effluent. This too is in principle a single step process.
During the intermittent operational method, the basins are operated in parallel. During
this process, both purely alternating aeration, as well as intermittent aeration and loading
(the last mentioned also being described as a successive process) are possible.
