Sieve implements and rakes
By using rakes and sieve implements, it is possible to considerably reduce the pollutant
load of the wastewater. Prerequisites for this are of course that the rake and sieve mate-
rial is actually retained and not discharged into the sewage system after cutting-up. Ac-
cording to the producers’ information, aperture widths of 1 mm will lead to elimination
rates of 50 to 90 % for the settable solids and of 10 to 40 % for the BOD5.

- In order to equalise the enormous variations in volume flow and concentration
of the wastewater, storage and mixing tanks can be installed. In these cases, a
sufficient aeration of the tank contents must be provided to avoid the emer-
