4.3 Slaughterhouse cleaning
Problems occur increasingly through tensides-containing agents which to a high degree
lead to the reduction of the separation performance of fat separators and floatation plants.
Alternatives to this are cleaning technologies which employ enzymes.
The following particulars must be considered:
- Utilisation of central, automatic dosage implements in order to avoid overdoses.
- Observation and control of the required temperatures in order to minimise the use of
cleaning agents.
- The cleaning agents used for the cleaning of the lorries (production of oily wastewa-
ter) should have demulgating properties, so as not to impair the function of the light
liquid separator.
- For the use of cleaning agents to guarantee the high slaughtering hygiene, one should
prefer enzyme-based cleaning techniques, in order to avoid problems with fat separa-
tion and floatation.
- One should avoid agents containing active chlorine, because these can produce the
hazardous pollutants AOX and CKWs. (CKWs may impair or disturb the anaerobic
treatment of the floating matter).
- As disinfectants, mainly quickly degrading or eco-toxicologically harmless active sub-
stances (such as per-acetic acid) should be used.
