9 Performing a MeasurementENGeneral instructions for measuringWARNINGHandling samples with temperatures of more than 70 °C bears thedanger of heavy burns. Make sure you wear protective clothes orensure alternative protection from burns when handling hightemperature samples.NOTICEBefore performing a measurement, make sure that the wetted partsare resistant to the sample (see Chapter 15).NOTICESample containing dissolved CO 2 will cause bubbles within themeasuring cell with the effect of invalid measurement results. Makesure your sample is degassed carefully.Degassing a sample can be done by:• boiling the sample for several minutes,• stirring the sample for 5 to 15 minutes until no bubbling occursany more or• putting the sample for approximately 5 to 10 minutes into anultrasonic bath.• Make sure that the measuring cell is filled free from gas bubbles. Possiblereasons for gas bubbles in the measuring cell are:• Gas bubbles in the sample• Leaky connection of the filling tube, the pump or the screw plug• Make sure that the measuring cell is fully filled.• Make sure that the sample temperature does not deviate too strongly from theambient temperature.When measuring samples with a temperature which greatly differs from theambient temperature and a measurement mode with a temperature stabilitycriterion is selected, the measurement takes longer because the sampletemperature first has to adjust to ambient temperature.If the sample measured is outside the temperature specifications (0 to +40 ° C),the display shows the warning sign until the sample has reached a measurabletemperature.
