The glazier's workshop or glaziery<br />

To learn your vocabulary, look at the images of our workshops and try to remember the English word. Check<br />

whether you are right by rolling over the picture with your mouse. By clicking on the speaker symbols you get an<br />

audio file to learn the correct pronunciation. Audio Introduction: Your tasks:<br />

1) Produce a workshop report for an English broadcasting company: They want to introduce the<br />

apprenticeships young people can do in our region in their main radio programme on Europe. You have been<br />

asked to do a report on your typical day in the workshop. Prepare your text by using the new words, and then use<br />

the podcast programme "Audacity" for recording your report. Add some music you find suitable. You can also do an<br />

interview with one of the teachers. Ask them to do it in English, or translate their German statements into English.<br />

Put your mp3 file into the Glass Classroom. If you don't know Audacity yet, here you can get help: tips how to<br />

create a podcast.<br />

2) Visit this online stained glass course and comment on it: Do you work in the same way or are there<br />

differences? Explain the similarities as well as the differences. Was there something new for you? Post your<br />

comment to "online courses" in the blog: http://www.glasfachschule.wordpress.com If you don't know how to<br />

express opinion, use the following worksheet.<br />

3) Work out the following professional situation as you know it already from your technology class and check<br />

up the vocabulary in the collection of images below or in the glass dictionary.<br />

3) Visit the school of glass at the Museum of Glass at Tacoma, USA, and take a look at the list of basic<br />

chemistry for working with glass. You'll find it at the left navigation bar under science and glass. As you already<br />

know all about it in German, translate this English overview. Work in teams. Each team takes one short text, Team<br />

1: The Sand, Team 2: The Flux-Soda & Lime, Team 3: The Trace Ingredients, Team 4: Finding Agents and<br />

Decolorants, Team 5: What's the big deal with lead chrystal?, Team 6: Colorants, Team 7: Speciality Glasses,<br />

Team 8: Coefficient of Expansion. Every team should also translate the introduction! Please write down the key<br />

vocabulary of your paragraph and collect it in the Glass Classroom, as well as your translation, so that it is<br />

available for everyone in class.<br />
