Die Dauner Maare sind vulkanische
Seen, die vor einigen 1000 Jahren entstanden.

At 9 a.m., your qualified guide will
meet you in the hotel lobby to begin the
excursion by coach into the Eifel. The
Daun Maars will be the focus of this excursion.
After a visit to the Cistercian monastery
Himmerod and the health resort Manderscheid,
the journey leads to the center of
the Volcanic Eifel. The Daun Maars are
volcanic lakes that were formed several
thousand years ago. Furnished with a delicious
lunch box from your hotel, you will
have a pleasant break at the lakes.
Nach einem kurzen Spaziergang besuchen
Sie das Maarmuseum in Manderscheid.
Spektakuläre Simulationen und
das begehbare Großmodell eines Maares
zeigen geologische Zusammenhänge aus
interessanten neuen Perspektiven. Zu
sehen sind auch 45 Mio. Jahre alte Fossilien,
allen voran das berühmte „Eckfelder
Urpferdchen“ und die „älteste Honigbiene
der Welt“.
Apropos Honig: Mit diesem verfeinerten
die Römer ihren Wein, den so genannten
Met oder Mulsum – Ihr Aperitif am heutigen
Abend! Ihm folgt ein römisches Mahl nach
Originalrezepten des berühmten Kochs
Apicius im passenden Ambiente des historischen
Kellers im Restaurant Zum
Domstein.

After a brief walk, you visit the Maar Museum
in Manderscheid. The Manderscheid
Maar Museum provides a clear look into
the maars and unique records of the geological
past. Spectacular simulations and
a large walk-in model of a maar display
interesting geological links from new perspectives.
Also on display are the fossils
from the almost 45-million-year-old Eckfeld
Maar, above all the famous “Eckfeld horse”
and the “world’s oldest honey bee”.
Apropos honey: The Romans used honey
to improve their wine, the so-called met
or mulsum, your aperitif for the evening!
A Roman meal follows, prepared according
to original recipes by the Roman chef
Apicius and served in the authentic ambience
of the historic cellar in the restaurant
“Zum Domstein”.
