Global Aviation Partnership<br />
Qantas to use Dubai hub <strong>–</strong> new partnership will l<strong>in</strong>k Australia with more than 70 gateways <strong>in</strong><br />
Europe, the Middle East and Africa<br />
<strong>Emirates</strong> and Qantas announced a new global aviation partnership<br />
that will give customers a seamless <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
and Australian network, exclusive frequent fl yer benefi ts<br />
and world-class travel experiences.<br />
Under the agreement signed by <strong>Emirates</strong> President Tim<br />
Clark and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, Qantas will move its hub<br />
for European fl ights from S<strong>in</strong>gapore to Dubai and enter an<br />
extensive commercial relationship with <strong>Emirates</strong>.<br />
The 10 year codeshar<strong>in</strong>g partnership is enhanced by <strong>in</strong>tegrated<br />
network collaboration with coord<strong>in</strong>ated pric<strong>in</strong>g, sales<br />
and schedul<strong>in</strong>g as well as a benefi ts shar<strong>in</strong>g model. Neither<br />
airl<strong>in</strong>e will take equity <strong>in</strong> the other.<br />
The partnership will see Qantas, along with<br />
anchor tenant <strong>Emirates</strong>, as the<br />
only other airl<strong>in</strong>e<br />
operat<strong>in</strong>g at Dubai International‘s Term<strong>in</strong>al 3. The two airl<strong>in</strong>es<br />
will jo<strong>in</strong>tly offer 98 weekly services between Australia<br />
and the global gateway city of Dubai <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g four daily<br />
A380 fl ights. With <strong>Emirates</strong> fl y<strong>in</strong>g the largest fl eet of A380s <strong>in</strong><br />
the world with 23, comb<strong>in</strong>ed with Qantas‘ 12 A380s for a total<br />
of 35, many onward fl ights to Europe <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g London Paris,<br />
Moscow, Amsterdam, Munich and Rome will also be on this<br />
popular aircraft. In addition, Qantas will launch daily A380<br />
services from both Sydney and Melbourne to London via<br />
Dubai for a comb<strong>in</strong>ed unprecedented seven daily A380<br />
fl ights to London Heathrow. Thirty additional European gateways<br />
can be seamlessly reached from Australia via Dubai.<br />
For <strong>Emirates</strong> customers it will open up Qantas‘ Australian<br />
domestic network of more than 50 dest<strong>in</strong>ations and nearly<br />
5,000 fl ights per week. The carriers will also coord<strong>in</strong>ate their<br />
respective trans-Tasman services between Australia and<br />
New Zealand with <strong>Emirates</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>g improved schedules for<br />
fl ights to Christchurch and Auckland <strong>–</strong> <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>troduction<br />
of <strong>Emirates</strong>‘ daily A380 services on the Melbourne-<br />
Auckland route <strong>in</strong> October.
