AbstractThe main focus of this work is directed to the Gaussian and Lagrangian dispersionmodels, applied to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease-virus. Assuming simplifiedmeteorological conditions, for a spontanously and alternatively continuously emittingpoint source, the diffusion equation is solved analytically in order to derive the Gaussiandispersion model. Furthermore a Lagrangian dispersion model is presented andthe relations to the Gaussian model are pointed out. A major role plays the estimationof the dispersion parameters and the turbulent wind speed components. The diffusion-caused dispersion of particles depends on the stability of the atmosphere.By means of an extensive set of measuring data, the relations between stabilityclasses and meteorological parameters are described and the secondary role of thecloud base of low clouds is discovered. A statistical analysis of the stability classescompletes this subject.A further object of this work is the quality of the predictability of the risk-distancefor cattle, sheep and swines in the case of a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. For thispurpose, stability classes and thereby the risk-distances, computed by measured dataon the one hand and by predicted data on the other hand, are compared.vii
