<strong>Anthony</strong> <strong>Cragg</strong> in the spotlight of the Cultural Commitment of NATIoNAL-BANk
Firstly, in economically difficult t<strong>im</strong>es there is
a danger that support for the visual arts outside
the major museums will dry up. In the
context of a cost-benefit analysis the decision
is often made either to make possible a major
exhibition, or else to withdraw from any cultural
commitment. secondly, supporting the
mkm is in accord with the aspiration towards
real sustainability, for we have enjoyed a
long-standing partnership with the museum
over many years, in the context of which we
have already made possible exhibitions of
works by Günther Uecker, stephan Balkenhol,
Jörg Immendorff and Gerhard Richter.
Thirdly, we can also defend our support for
this project because in 2011 we are celebrating
the 90 th anniversary of the foundation
both of our bank and also of the duisburger
Bankverein AG, likewise established in 1921,
which we took over in 1942.
Founded in Berlin in 1921 by the Christliche
Gewerkschaftsbewegung [Christian Trade
Union movement], we have been based in
essen since 1922. As one of the leading independent
private regional banks nationwide
which caters to demanding private and corporate
customers, we face up to our business
responsibilities out of conviction. We feel
a bond between us and the state of North
Rhine-Westphalia and its people. our success
is inseparably bound up with the healthy

elements are interlocking and influence each
