The course consists of a preparation phase,
a study phase at the University of Tübingen
(10 months), and the completion of a Masters
thesis (4 months).
Some months before the course commences
the participants receive lecture notes
concerning fundamentals of hydrogeology,
hydrochemistry, and soil science for self-instruction.
During the study phase the main lectures
offered are:

• Groundwater Contamination and Protection
Hydraulic Engineering
• Groundwater and Rock Mechanics Fundamentals
of Geotechnical Engineering
• Soil Protection Tropical Soils
• Raw materials Geophysics in Hydrogeology
• Geographical Information Systems Remote
Sensing
• Introduction to Surveying Colloquium
and seminars
The course involves a total of approximately
600 lectures and 70 days excursions (including
a 3-week excursion to North Africa),
field work, and lab a course (70 ECP).
For German participants, training must be
gained in a tropical or subtropical country
and cover at least 3 months.
Successful participants have the opportunity
to produce a Masters thesis (20 ECP) in
Germany or in a tropical region. Participants
who do not achieve adequate grades to
obtain a theme or those who do not wish to
complete a Masters thesis receive a certificate.
There are no student fees for the course,
however each participant is required to con-

tribute towards the costs of excursions,
lecture notes and tutorials.
Admission to the course is conditional on
completion of a university degree (Diplom,
M.Sc., B.Sc., Licenciado). Additionally, an
English language certificate (e.g. TOEFL
550) is a precondition. The age limit is fixed
at 32 years. The maximum number of participants
allowed is 20 per year. The course
commences on October 1 every year, application
deadline is July 15.

certified copies of academic examinations,
English language certificate, and - if
available - certificates of employment.
