Unsere größte Herausforderung in den
nächsten Jahren wird das finden neuer
Einsatzfelder für die verschiedenen ODU
Produkte sein. Der Bekanntheitsgrad der
Marke ODU soll gesteigert werden. Die
ODU Produktlinien bestehen aus so vielen
verschiedenen Produkten, dass absolut
umfassende, technische Erklärungen und
Design-In Angaben nicht immer für alle
Marktsegmente zur Verfügung stehen. Da
wir viele kundenspezifische Steckverbinder
verkaufen, muss man einfach oft „zur
richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort sein“.
Weiterhin gibt es für Produkte, die in
Europa hervorragend verkauft werden
können oft in den USA nicht so viele
Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Einige Branchen,
wie Sondermaschinenbau, Automatisierungstechnik,
Fabrikautomation, Prüfwesen,
Verkehrstechnik sind in den USA
nicht sehr stark, haben aber in Europa
eine solide Basis. Weiterhin besteht ein
deutlicher Unterschied in der Einstellung
zum Geschäft. Für die Entwickler in den
USA ist der Kostengesichtspunkt meist
einer der entscheidenden, während die
europäischen Ingenieure ein größeres
Augenmerk auf Qualität und Zuverlässigkeit
legen. In Amerika ist man der Auffassung,
dass der Stecker nach dem Gesichtspunkt
„good enough is best“ ausgewählt
werden sollte. Im Gegensatz dazu betrachtet
man in Europa die Kosten des
Gesamtsystems und die nachgeschalteten
Kosten, wenn ein Steckverbinder fehlerhaft
sein sollte. Der Druck, die Kosten
für Steckverbinder zu senken ist in den
USA allgegenwärtig und unabdingbar.
Our biggest challenge involves creating
an awareness of the ODU brand name
and finding new applications for the
different ODU products. The ODU product
line consists of many products which are
not synergistic and do require strong
technical support and design-in effort in
different market segments. Since many
ODU products are application-specific it
is a matter of being at the right time at
the right place.
Furthermore, products that sell well in
Europe may not find many opportunities
in the US market. Some industries, such
as special machine tools, automated
assembly equipment, testing equipment,
printing machines, automated fabrication
systems, transportation, are not very
strong in the US but have a solid presence
in European countries. In addition,
there is a distinct difference in the design
approach and business philosophy between
the United States and Europe. The
US designer builds the product with cost
being one of the most important aspects,
while the European engineer puts more
emphasis on quality and system reliability.
The American idea is that the connector
should be selected on the basis of “good
enough is best”, with the lowest possible
up-front component cost. The European
counterpart will look at the overall
system cost and the downstream
replacement expenses if the connector
should fail. Downward pressure on
connector cost in the US is un-relentless
and ever-present.
