Die meisten Einsatzfälle erfordern Steckverbinder,
die in Übereinstimmung mit der
neuesten NEC (National Electrical Code)
konstruiert wurden und die UL oder VDE
Zulassung besitzen. Wir werden auch weiterhin
Einsatzmöglichkeiten für die schweren
Steckverbinder im Auge behalten.
1999 und 2000 hatten wir schwere Steckverbinder
eindesigned in Elektrofahrzeuge,
Halbleiter-Fabrikanlagen und Base Stationen
der Telekommunikation. Leider sind
diese Märkte in den Jahren 2000 – 2001
eingebrochen. Wie auch immer, 2002 und
2003 erwarten wir eine Erholung.
Die FLAKAFIX Schneidklemm- und die
MINI-FIX SMT-Steckverbinder stehen in
hartem Wettbewerb mit Lieferanten aus
USA und Süd-Ost-Asien. Die Tatsache,
dass immer mehr OEM’s und Vertragsfertigungsfirmen
ihre Produktion aus den
USA in andere Länder verlegen hilft uns
nicht gerade. Es wird erwartet, dass sich
dieser Trend, sowie der verstärkte Wettbewerbs-
und Kostendruck weiter fortsetzen
wird. Fertigung in den USA wird wenig
wünschenswert. Obwohl unser Schwerpunkt
bei den Rundsteckverbindern liegt,
konnten wir auch viele neue Anwendungen
für die Leiterplattensteckverbinder, speziell
für MINI-FIX, finden. Wir werden diese
Produktline weiterhin mit Nachdruck
anbieten.
ODU-USA hat sehr gute Voraussetzungen,
um weiterhin kontinuierlich zu wachsen.
Während der letzten Jahre konnten wir die
Kundenbasis stetig erweitern. Viele unserer
neuen Kunden sind noch in einem frühen
Stadium des Produktdesigns. Deren
Serienproduktion wird nicht vor Ende 2002
beginnen. Keine Frage, der allgemeine
wirtschaftliche Abschwung hat sich auch
auf uns ausgewirkt, aber „es gibt Licht am
Ende des Tunnels“ und wir alle hoffen,
dass 2002 ein gutes Jahr für die Steckverbinder-Industrie
wird.
Wir möchten die Gelegenheit nutzen, um
den Mitarbeitern von ODU in Mühldorf für
die großartige Unterstützung über die
Jahre hinweg zu danken. Wir freuen uns
auf die Fortsetzung unserer hervorragenden
Geschäftbeziehung in den nächsten
Jahren.

Most applications require connectors that
are designed in accordance with the
latest NEC (National Electrical Code) and
have UL or VDE approvals. We will continue
to search for opportunities for the ODU
heavy-duty connectors. In 1999 and 2000
we successfully designed heavy-duty
connectors into electric vehicles, semiconductor
fabrication equipment, and
telecommunication base stations.
Unfortunately, these sectors have suffered
during the 2000-2001 slowdown.
However, we expected an improvement
in 2002 and 2003.
The FLAKAFIX IDC and MINIFIX SMT
board connectors face strong competition
from many established suppliers in the
US and the Asia-Pacific countries. The
fact that a larger number of OEMs and
contract manufactures are moving manufacturing
to countries outside the US
does not help us. This trend is expected
to accelerate as market competition and
cost pressure on the US corporate management
continues. It makes production
in the United States a less desirable business
strategy. Although our emphasis is
on the cylindrical connector market, we
have found many new applications for
the PCB connectors, especially for the
MINIFIX products. We will continue to
aggressively market this product line.
There is every reason to believe that
ODU-USA will continue to grow. We have
expanded our customer base every
month over the last few years. Many of
our new customers are in the early state
of product design. Large-scale production
for many of the new projects will not
start until later in 2002. No question, the
current economic slowdown has affected
us, but there is light at the end of the
tunnel and we all hope that 2002 will be
a great year for the connector industry.
We want to take the opportunity to thank
every one in the ODU team for the great
support provided to us over the years.
We are looking forward to continue this
excellent relationship for many years to
come.
