immer und überall.

werden und sogar die Ortung
einer entwendeten Maschine
nun möglich ist.
The contractor wanted a range
of sensors for remote monitoring
(gate contacts, motion
sensors) and actuators
(lights, sirens). In addition,
he felt the site should be monitored
via video cameras and
in the event that an expensive
machine was stolen, he wanted
to be able to locate the
equipment and thus ensure
its return. The difficulty was
that the on-site telecommunications
infrastructure was
non-existent, due to the fact
that they are only in place for
short periods of several weeks
or months.
The networking specialist, Digi International,
and Atlantic Electronics, marketer
of technology and design-in experts for
semiconductor products and solutions,
promptly developed a solution which could
be configured prior to delivery to the target
site and quickly and easily installed on
site.
A Digi ConnectPort X4 with a VPN connection
via mobile phone (GPRS) to a public
cellular network was routed to a monitoring
server. This enabled a connection
on the application side via ZigBee ® to the
XBee ® adapters (e. g. sensor adapters).
The sensor adapter was connected to the
actual sensor via 2-wire cable. The cameras
could be linked via Ethernet (IP video
camera) to the ConnectPort X4 or alternatively
by using an USB adapter.
“The support team from the Atlantic and
Digi helped us set up the system, however
no problems arose during the implementation,”
said the head of the construction
company. “The product is user friendly,
and both companies gave us completely
expert support. The collaboration was very
pleasant and the result has surpassed our
expectations.”
The construction company now has more
control over their sites – and with a global
Internet connection everywhere and at all
times. The result guarantees better data
collection and greater security since potential
problems are detected immediately
and even locating stolen machinery is now
achievable.
