KRONE has been investing in the “KTL
plus powder”process for the last ten
years. This is an electrocoating
procedure, followed by powder
coating,which guarantees top quality
and an attractive appearance. After
being blasted with steel balls in the
blasting plant, the chassis is immersed
ten times before being dried in the oven
at 230 degrees Celsius. It is then
transferred via a computer-controlled
suspended railway to the assembly
station. The technicians lay the
colourful cables and install the
powerful air suspension and the
brakes. Here,they need to take account
of the special features of each
individual model.The piggyback model
of the Mega Liner is given “split
airbags”, for example,which ensure
that the rubber bellows remain
undamaged when the axles are
repeatedly raised and lowered while
the crane is being loaded.
On the test bed
The axle is then mounted, and shortly
after that, the wheels are fitted. Now,
an inspection is needed to check
whether the electronics and brakes,for
example, are working properly. The
computer makes a meticulous
examination.
Once the computer has given the green
light, the new vehicle is moved on to
the next station, where the 30mmthick
birch plywood floor is laid. Each
vehicle is fitted with an individually
made floor.Finally, it is furnished with
the doors, front wall and roof, the
tarpaulin is laid and the floor is sealed.
Even when everything has been
mounted,from the rungs through to the
Edscha cover, the process is still not
complete. As a final step, the vehicle
needs to pass the Technical Inspection
Authority test. Only then does KRONE

send the registration document to the
customer, so that they can collect their
new trailer. The customer replies by
fax, informing KRONE when they wish
to come and pick up the vehicle. On the
agreed date, they bring their delivery
papers with them, and drive out of the
premises with the new trailer.In the
meanwhile, the vehicles are registered
by a barcode scanner and their location
is passed on to the stores management
system telemetrically. In this way,
search times are avoided. The
assembly technicians at KRONE work
round the clock, six days a week, in
three shifts.The only day off is Sunday,
when the KTL basin also takes a rest.
The entire production procedure is
therefore minutely planned. But
customers already come to expect this
of their trailer manufacturer, since
KRONE takes pride in its perfectionism.
That’s why the company is regularly
awarded prizes from specialist juries
and satisfied customers.
