Prof. Daniel Kraus<br />

law at the University of Neu<strong>ch</strong>âtel, WIPO Arbitrator and<br />
Mediator<br />
Daniel Kraus is Professor of innovation law at the University of Neu<strong>ch</strong>âtel, Switzerland.<br />
He has obtained his PhD in law in 2003 with a thesis on parallel imports of<br />
patented products in international, European and Swiss law, for whi<strong>ch</strong> he obtained<br />
a Summa cum laude and the Walther Hug Prize for the best dissertation. Daniel<br />
Kraus was a visiting resear<strong>ch</strong>er at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property,<br />
Competition and Tax Law in Muni<strong>ch</strong> in 2005. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.)<br />
from King’s College, London (1993).<br />
Daniel Kraus has been tea<strong>ch</strong>ing several aspects of intellectual property law, including<br />
biote<strong>ch</strong>nology, international intellectual property law and general intellectual<br />
property law since 2005 at the University of Neu<strong>ch</strong>âtel and in several other universities<br />
su<strong>ch</strong> as Strasbourg (CEIPI), the Swiss Federal Institutes of Te<strong>ch</strong>nology in Zuri<strong>ch</strong><br />
and Lausanne, as well as the s<strong>ch</strong>ool of pharmacy of the universities of Lausanne<br />
and Geneva. He has led and undertaken several resear<strong>ch</strong> projects in the field of<br />
pharmaceutical innovation and access to pharmaceutical products, financed by the<br />
Swiss National Science Foundation. He is currently undertaking a resear<strong>ch</strong> project<br />
on pharmaceutical innovation financed by the European Union (FP7).<br />
After having completed his articles in a major Swiss law firm, Daniel Kraus worked<br />
for two years in an IP-specialized boutique law firm in Geneva (1997-1999), before<br />
joining the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property in Bern, where he worked<br />
for more than nine years (1999-2008) as legal adviser, then Deputy Head, international<br />
trade relations, and finally as Head, training and te<strong>ch</strong>nical cooperation. In<br />
2008, he joined the law firm Umbri<strong>ch</strong>t in Zuri<strong>ch</strong> and opened their office in Bern,<br />
where he focuses on intellectual property law.<br />
Daniel Kraus serves as arbitrator, mediator and panelist for domain names disputes<br />
at the WIPO arbitration and mediation center.<br />
