Protecting Smart Meters
from Cyber Attacks
Smart Meter sind bald Pflicht in jedem deutschen Haushalt. Doch für einen
sicheren Gebrauch sollten Versorgungsbetriebe wie auch Hersteller einige
Sicherheitsstandards beachten
Smart meters will soon be mandatory in every German household. But for
safe use utilities as well as manufacturers should be aware of safety standards.
Die intelligenten Strom- oder Gasmessgeräte
versprechen eine Steigerung der
Energieeffizienz und des Bewusstseins
der Verbraucher. Doch weil Smart Meter
ausführliche Daten der Haushalte auslesen
und diese dann drahtlos an die Versorgungsunternehmen
übermitteln, bergen
sie enorme Sicherheitsrisiken. Hohe
Sicherheitsstandards sind also ein Muss
für den flächendeckenden Einsatz der digitalen
Zähler.
Strenge
Authentifizierungsprozesse
Die bidirektionale Datenübertragung
zwischen relevanten Akteuren der Energieversorgungskette
muss verschlüsselt
erfolgen, damit die Überwachung von verschiedenen
Haushalten sicher verläuft.
Damit besonders bei der Übertragung von
Rechnungsdaten die Privatsphäre der Verbraucher
geschützt wird, sollten strenge
Authentifizierungsprozesse eingeführt
werden. Beispielsweise beinhaltet das
Security Plug-In für Open AT von Sierra
Wireless verschlüsselte Protokolle sowie
Support für SSL oder IPSec. Darüber hinaus
sollten moderne Smart Meter mit Technologien
ausgestattet sein, die Hacker-Angriffe
schnell registrieren und entsprechend reagieren,
indem sie beispielsweise einen
Alarm auslösen, eine Benachrichtigung
über einen anderen Kommunikationskanal
aussenden oder das Geschehen aufzeichnen.
Außerdem sollten die Geräte im Falle
eines Verbindungsausfalls mit dem Netzwerk
weiterhin ihre Funktionsfähigkeit
beibehalten und Daten entsprechend speichern
können. Diese und weitere Maßnahmen
können die Smart Meter-Sicherheit
erheblich erhöhen.

Intelligent smart meters not only improve
