M2M Summit – Special Edition
Nach dem Treffen erörterten wir einige
kritische Fragen. Wir waren uns einig,
dass es ein wichtiger nächster Schritt ist,
die Bemühungen in vertikalen Märkten
zu verstärken. Es ist entscheidend, dass
wir gute und vertrauensvolle Beziehungen
mit vertikalen Organisationen haben,
damit Standards gleichzeitig bearbeitet
werden können, um Doppelarbeit
zu reduzieren und eine Zersplitterung zu
vermeiden.
Wir werden über diesen vertikalen Bedarf
und vieles mehr bei einem wichtigen Folgetreffen
sprechen, das im September
2011 im Georgia Tech Research Institute
in Atlanta, USA, stattfindet - dieses Mal
mit Zutritt für die Öffentlichkeit. Internationale
Standard-Gremien und Foren
wie die Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA), das European Standards
Telecommunications Institute (ETSI), die
Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) sowie vertikal
marktorientierte Organisationen wie
das US Department of Energy (DOE), das
GridWise Architecture Council, die Intelligent
Transportation Society of America
(ITSA), das International Payments Forum
(IPF) oder die International Society
of Automation (ISA) werden bei der Atlanta-Konferenz
vertreten sein, darüber
hinaus führende Unternehmen wie GE,
Oracle und UPS.
In der September-Sitzung von GSC und
MSTF Sitzung mit dem Thema "M2M-
Standards als Wachstumsfaktoren", ist
es unser Ziel, die wichtige Rolle der Normen
für das Wachstum des M2M-Markts
zu unterstreichen sowie Kommentare und
Ideen über die Richtung der Standardisierung
zu finden. In enger Zusammenarbeit
mit der International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) wollen wir einen Aktionsplan
mit Empfehlungen zu aktuellen und zukünftigen
M2M Standardisierungsunternehmungen
erstellen.
Weltweite M2M-Standards müssen Realität
werden. Ohne diese würde der
Fortschritt der Branche drastisch verlangsamt.

Beyond the 5 billion devices connected
to the Internet, the potential for greatest
growth comes from machine-to-machine
deployments. There’s no question M2M
has become the backbone of today’s
worldwide business and many organizations
around the world are working on
M2M standardization in their own backyard,
for sure, but that only increases the
possibility of redundant or conflicting
standards.
The availability of global M2M standards
will be an important enabler for connecting
multiple devices in complex systems
and reaching economies of scale for
manufacturers and solution providers
alike. With this goal in mind, the Global
Standards Collaboration (GSC) Machineto-Machine
Standardization Task Force
(MSTF) gathered for a two-day meeting
in May 2011, during the annual member
meeting and industry event of the USbased
Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA). The GSC MSTF is an information
exchange, bridging the actual
work of Standards Developing Organizations
and the M2M industry’s needs.
After this productive meeting at which
we were enlightened by industry peers
and experts worldwide, we outlined several
critical issues that we need to address
most urgently. We all agreed that
a key next step is to consider the work
being done in vertical markets where
substantial standardization work is also
being accomplished. Since standards
are being worked on simultaneously, it’s
critical that we have strong relationship
and cooperative liaisons with vertical
organizations to reduce duplication and
avoid fragmentation.
We will talk about this vertical need and
much more at an important September
2011 follow up meeting in Atlanta, GA at
the Georgia Tech Research Institute, this
time open to the public. International
standards bodies and forums such as
the Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA), the European Standards
Telecommunications Institute (ETSI), the
Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), vertical
market-focused organizations like the
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Grid-
Wise Architecture Council , the Intelligent
Transportation Society of America (ITSA),
the International Payments Forum (IPF),
and the International Society of Automation
(ISA) will be represented at the
Atlanta conference as will market leading
companies such as GE, Oracle, and UPS.
At the September GSC MSTF meeting,
the theme of which is “M2M standards
as growth enablers,” our goal is very
simple: underline the critical role of
standards in M2M market growth and
encourage comments and ideas about
the direction of standardization. We plan
to finalize an activity map from which we
will make recommendations on current
and future M2M standardization undertakings
in close liaison with the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU).
In the end, making M2M worldwide
standards a reality needs to happen or
the lack thereof will dramatically slow
down the industry’s progress. Interested
