In diesem
Dear Readers,
Editorial Editorial
Welcome to the special issue of the M2M journal for the M2M
Summit 2011.
The machine-to-machine communication has outgrown its infancy.
In many cases, the M2M concepts have already left the research
and development departments, and are being successfully applied
practically, in more and more areas.
The cautious wait and see attitude towards this innovation has
disappeared. Many firms are now strategically considering the
integration of M2M communications into new products and service
concepts, and are benefiting from its possibilities and services in many
ways. More and more consumers are discovering the advantages of
M2M applications and enjoying its unique conveniences. All signs
indicate growth. This will be especially evident at this year's M2M
Summit, and in this issue: M2M has reached the market, worldwide.
This is demonstrated by the number and type of exhibitors
and sponsors, which have more than doubled in numbers and
diversity compared to last year. It is also reflected in the topics of
the conference. This year, in three parallel sessions there will be
reports on experiences with M2M applications, and discussions on
customer acceptance and opportunities for improvement. Based on
experiences gained, a glimpse will also be thrown into the future.
Although the Summit has been more of a German event to date,
now, opened to the whole world, it has definitely become more
international. We are pleased to welcome exhibitors from six different
countries this year. And we have Canada, which is participating with
a trade delegation consisting of 5 companies, as a partner country
for the M2M Summit for the first time. Visitors from four further
continents have announced their participation as well.
I invite you to help shape the future. M2M Alliance e.V. is an open
forum for all who are interested in the promotion and development
of the M2M market.
We wish you an interesting day at the M2M Summit, and that you
enjoy reading this issue!
steigendes Interesse an M2M-Lösungen. Um diese nachhaltig
weiterzuentwickeln, bedarf es gemeinsamer Anstrengungen, die
Technologien in Industrie, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft bekannt
zu machen. Technologische Innovation heute bedeutet zugleich,
einsetzen.
I welcome you as participants
in the 2011 M2M Summit,
Grußwort Welcome address
On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Cologne,
we are glad that the Rhineland is able to welcome the event
organizers, decision-makers and participants of the machineto-machine
sector again this year.
We are currently seeing an increasing interest in M2M
solutions in all sectors of the economy. To continue developing
this in a sustainable way, we must strive together to make the
technologies known in industry, the economy and in society.
Today, technological innovation also means to campaign for
the technical harmonization of the systems. Because, it is only
in this way that an effective contribution can be made and the
competitiveness of the companies that use these technologies
can be increased.
The M2M Summit provides an excellent platform for the
discussions in the sector and it also provides an excellent
framework for constructive discussions and contacts. This event
in the Rhineland takes place in one of the strongest ITK regions
in Germany. More than 11,300 companies from the ITK sector
are represented in the greater Cologne area alone. Research
facilities, universities, technical colleges and a number of
private training institutions create a positive climate for the
training and acquisition of qualified specialists.
We would especially like to welcome the participants from the
Smart Grid Integration
Smart Grid Integration
folgt beschreiben.
The transformation of the classical energy provisioning system towards the so-called
Smart Grid may summarized – at least for the low voltage area – as briefly described
in the following.
Die Energieerzeugung geht von einer geringen
Anzahl deterministischer Punktquellen
hoher Quellstärke zu einer hohen
Anzahl volatil erzeugender Flächenquellen
niedriger Quellstärke über.
Neue Systemsteuerung
Die Aggregation dieser Flächenquellen,
die Stabilisierung der Erzeugung sowie
die Ausbilanzierung von Erzeugung und
Verbrauch auf veränderlichen Skalen
erfordern eine qualitativ neuartige Systemsteuerung
– sowohl hinsichtlich der
Hardware, als auch hinsichtlich Optimierung,
Algorithmik und Steuerungsprinzipien.
In den T-Labs werden derzeit die
Möglichkeiten der Steuerung der in das
Telekommunikationsnetz integrierten
Energiespeicher (Batterieparks mit einer
Gesamtkapazität von ca. 22 MAh, siehe
Abbildung) auf typische Smart Grid-Anforderungen
hin untersucht. Hierzu zählen
z.B. Lastmanagement, Beschaffungs-
optimierung, Regelenergiebereitstellung,
die Konfiguration virtueller Kraftwerke
oder das optimierte Lebenszyklusmanagement
der Batterien.
Demand Side Management
Insbesondere die Einführung lastadaptiver
Bandbreitenproduktion im Telekommunikationsnetz
ermöglicht ein netzweites
Demand Side Management. Die
prinzipielle Frage nach dem Verhältnis
von lokal autarker Ausregelung gegenüber
einer zentralen Steuerungsinstanz
ist hierbei entscheidend für Leistungsfähigkeit
und Agilität des Smart Grid.
The substitution of few deterministic
point sources of high source strength
with a high number of weak area sources
producing in a volatile way.
M2M Summit – Special Edition
Typischer Batteriepark zur USV-
Absicherung in einem Standort
der Deutschen Telekom.
Typical battery park for UPS safeguarding
in a Deutsche Telekom site.
New control paradigm
The aggregation of these sources, generation
stabilization and the balancing of
generation and consumption on variable
scales require a qualitatively new control
paradigm – concerning the hardware as
well as optimization strategies, algorithms
and control principles. At T-Labs, recent
innovation activity studies control options
for the energy buffers integrated into the
telecommunication network (mostly battery
parks with a total capacity of approx.
22 MAh, see figure) with respect to Smart
Grid demands.
Demand side management
Specifically, these are load management,
purchase optimization, control
energy provisioning, virtual power plant
configuration and battery life cycle management.
In particular, the introduction
of load-adaptive mode in the telecommunication
network’s bandwidth production
enables a net-wide demand side
management capability. Here, the principal
question of the relationship between
locally autonomous control routines and
a central instance in an overall control
framework is critical for performance
and agility of the Smart Grid.
Machine-to-machine communication (M2M) is currently one of the fastest growing
markets in telecommunications. Companies from the fields of logistics and energy
supply in particular are increasingly relying on this technology. In addition, more
industries recognize the value and potential of M2M. However, existing solutions appear
not to meet our customers' needs or are often too complex or inflexible.
Die Anwendungsgebiete von M2M sind
vielfältig und nicht auf die Geschäftsfelder
von Hightech-Unternehmen beschränkt:
Lokale Sicherheitsunternehmen setzen
drahtlose Überwachungssysteme ein.
Speditionen nutzen die Möglichkeiten zur
Flottensteuerung. Mittelständische Leasingfirmen
können mittels Track & Trace
gemäß der realen Nutzung der Fahrzeuge
abrechnen. Die Einsatzmöglichkeiten im
Bereich der Unterhaltungselektronik sind
aktuell noch gar nicht abzusehen.
Bei der E-Plus Gruppe sieht man das
gewaltige Potenzial der Technik ebenso
wie die hohen Erwartungen der Kunden:
Bald werden mehr SIM-Karten in Zigarettenautomaten,
Autos und Stromzählern
stecken als in Mobiltelefonen. Das eröffnet
den Unternehmen große Chancen.
Die Aufgabe der M2M-Geschäftseinheit
der E-Plus Gruppe liegt darin, ihnen die-
se Technik alltagstauglich anzubieten,
also kostengünstig, schnell zu implementieren
und einfach zu handhaben.
Weil der Einsatz von M2M-Technologien
in absehbarer Zeit zum Alltag vieler Unternehmen
gehören wird, kommt der
einfachen Steuerung dieser komplexen
Technik besondere Bedeutung zu. Mehrere
Hundert oder sogar Tausend Anwendungen
müssen sich durch den Nutzer
problemlos kontrollieren lassen und
das System dabei z. B. die Kosten jederzeit
transparent abbilden, da dies für die
Wirtschaftlichkeit eines Unternehmens
entscheidend ist.
Echtzeit-Kontrolle
Aus diesem Grund hat die Geschäftseinheit
M2M der E-Plus Gruppe das M2M-
PLUS Control Center entwickelt. Das webbasierte
Administrationsportal ist das
Herzstück von M2M-PLUS und wird bereits
in verschiedenen Branchen erfolgreich
eingesetzt: Unternehmen aus den
Bereichen Energieversorgung, Logistik
und Automatisierung, aber auch Healthcare,
Sicherheit und Automotive überwachen
und steuern mit dem M2M-PLUS
Control Center ihre M2M-SIM-Karten.
Die Nutzer können ihre Datenströme in
Echtzeit beobachten und ihre SIM-Karten
jederzeit von jedem Ort selbstständig
steuern.
Dabei schafft das Portal nicht nur Transparenz,
es optimiert auch Prozesse und
Arbeitsabläufe. Die Nutzer verfügen zudem
über diverse Optionen zur Kontrolle
und Überwachung der eingesetzten
SIM-Karten. Ein günstiger und einfacher
Pay-as-you-use-Datentarif rundet das
Portfolio ab.
M2M applications are diverse and not limited
to high-tech company business areas:
local security companies are implementing
wireless surveillance systems. Shipping
companies are benefitting from these
opportunities for fleet management. Via
track & trace, medium-sized leasing companies
can charge the actual use of the
vehicles, and the application possibilities
in the field of entertainment electronics are
currently not yet foreseeable.
Complete know-how
under one roof
The huge potential of the technology can
be seen with the E-Plus Group as well as
in the high expectations of the customers:
soon there will be more SIM cards for
vending machines, cars and electricity
meters than for cell phones. This opens
up great opportunities for the company.
The task of the M2M business unit of the
E-Plus Group is to present this technol-
ogy to you as suitable for everyday use, in
other words: inexpensive, quickly implemented,
and easy to handle.
Because the implementation of M2M technologies
will become part of the everyday
life for any companies in the foreseeable
future, the easy control of this complex
technology is of particular importance.
Easy control by the user of several hundreds
or even thousands of applications
must be possible, whereby the system, for
example, must convey the costs transparently
at all times, as this is crucial for the
profitability of a company.
Real-time monitoring
For this reason, the M2M business unit of
the E-Plus Group has developed the M2M-
PLUS Control Center. The web-based administration
portal is at the heart of M2M-
PLUS and is already successfully used in
various industries: enterprises in the fields
M2M Summit – Special Edition
of energy, logistics and automation, but
also health care, security and automotive
monitor and control their M2M SIM cards
through the M2M-PLUS Control Center.
The users can observe their data streams
in real time and direct their SIM cards independently
at any time from any place.
Thus, the portal not only creates transparency,
it also optimizes processes and
workflows. The users also have various
options for controlling and monitoring the
implemented SIM cards. A convenient and
simple pay-as-you-use data plan rounds
out the portfolio.
M2M Standards – eine globale
Notwendigkeit für
die Telekommunikations-Industrie
M2M Standards Are a Global
Telecommunications Industry Priority
Machine-to-Machine (M2M)-Technologie.
Standards are most conducive to economies of scale if they are compatible worldwide.
Perhaps one of the most important issues today regarding worldwide technology
standards is in regard to Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology.
Abgesehen von den über 5 Milliarden
Geräten, die mit dem Internet verbunden
sind, liegt das größte Wachstumspotenzial
in den Maschine-zu-Maschine-Implementierungen.
Ohne Zweifel ist M2M
heute das Rückgrat der weltweiten Wirtschaft.
Im Stillen arbeiten viele Organisa-
tionen weltweit an Standards. Das aber
vergrößert nur die Gefahr der Entstehung
redundanter und widersprüchlicher Normen.
Die Verfügbarkeit globaler M2M-Standards
wird ein wichtiger Wegbereiter
für den Anschluss multipler Geräte in
komplexen Systemen, und damit für die
Wirtschaftlichkeit bei Herstellern und
Lösungsanbietern. Mit diesem Ziel versammelten
sich im Mai 2011 die Global
Standards Collaboration (GSC) und die
Machine-to-Machine Standardization
Task Force (MSTF) zu einem zweitägigen
Treffen im Rahmen der jährlichen
Mitgliederversammlung der amerikanischen
Telecommunications Industry
Association (TIA). Das Treffen von GSC
und MSTF diente dem Informationsaustausch
über den aktuellen Stand der
Arbeit der Normungsorganisationen
und über die M2M-Bedürfnisse der Industrie.
M2M Summit – Special Edition
Nach dem Treffen erörterten wir einige
kritische Fragen. Wir waren uns einig,
dass es ein wichtiger nächster Schritt ist,
die Bemühungen in vertikalen Märkten
zu verstärken. Es ist entscheidend, dass
wir gute und vertrauensvolle Beziehungen
mit vertikalen Organisationen haben,
damit Standards gleichzeitig bearbeitet
werden können, um Doppelarbeit
zu reduzieren und eine Zersplitterung zu
vermeiden.
Wir werden über diesen vertikalen Bedarf
und vieles mehr bei einem wichtigen Folgetreffen
sprechen, das im September
2011 im Georgia Tech Research Institute
in Atlanta, USA, stattfindet - dieses Mal
mit Zutritt für die Öffentlichkeit. Internationale
Standard-Gremien und Foren
wie die Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA), das European Standards
Telecommunications Institute (ETSI), die
Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) sowie vertikal
marktorientierte Organisationen wie
das US Department of Energy (DOE), das
GridWise Architecture Council, die Intelligent
Transportation Society of America
In enger Zusammenarbeit
mit der International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) wollen wir einen Aktionsplan
mit Empfehlungen zu aktuellen und zukünftigen
M2M Standardisierungsunternehmungen
erstellen.
Weltweite M2M-Standards müssen Realität
werden. Ohne diese würde der
Fortschritt der Branche drastisch verlangsamt.
10 M2M Journal 09 | M2M Summit – Special Edition | 09/11
Beyond the 5 billion devices connected
to the Internet, the potential for greatest
growth comes from machine-to-machine
deployments. There’s no question M2M
has become the backbone of today’s
worldwide business and many organizations
around the world are working on
M2M standardization in their own backyard,
for sure, but that only increases the
possibility of redundant or conflicting
standards.
The availability of global M2M standards
will be an important enabler for connecting
multiple devices in complex systems
and reaching economies of scale for
manufacturers and solution providers
alike. With this goal in mind, the Global
Standards Collaboration (GSC) Machineto-Machine
Standardization Task Force
(MSTF) gathered for a two-day meeting
in May 2011, during the annual member
meeting and industry event of the USbased
Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA). The GSC MSTF is an information
exchange, bridging the actual
work of Standards Developing Organizations
and the M2M industry’s needs.
After this productive meeting at which
we were enlightened by industry peers
and experts worldwide, we outlined several
critical issues that we need to address
most urgently. We all agreed that
a key next step is to consider the work
being done in vertical markets where
substantial standardization work is also
being accomplished. Since standards
are being worked on simultaneously, it’s
critical that we have strong relationship
and cooperative liaisons with vertical
organizations to reduce duplication and
avoid fragmentation.
We will talk about this vertical need and
much more at an important September
2011 follow up meeting in Atlanta, GA at
the Georgia Tech Research Institute, this
time open to the public. International
standards bodies and forums such as
the Telecommunications Industry Association
(TIA), the European Standards
Telecommunications Institute (ETSI), the
Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), vertical
market-focused organizations like the
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Grid-
Wise Architecture Council , the Intelligent
Transportation Society of America (ITSA),
the International Payments Forum (IPF),
and the International Society of Automation
(ISA) will be represented at the
Atlanta conference as will market leading
companies such as GE, Oracle, and UPS.
At the September GSC MSTF meeting,
the theme of which is “M2M standards
as growth enablers,” our goal is very
simple: underline the critical role of
standards in M2M market growth and
encourage comments and ideas about
the direction of standardization. We plan
to finalize an activity map from which we
will make recommendations on current
and future M2M standardization undertakings
in close liaison with the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU).
In the end, making M2M worldwide
standards a reality needs to happen or
the lack thereof will dramatically slow
down the industry’s progress. Interested
participants in registering for the
free conference and/or the roundtable
can do so at http://www.tiaonline.org/
M2M – weit mehr als nur SIM Karten
There Is More to M2M than Just SIM Supply
Welche Voraussetzungen muss
ein verlässlicher M2M Geschäftspartner mitbringen?
Telco industry experts’ common understanding suggests that M2M is more than just
SIM cards and yet another data tariff. But what differentiates pure SIM supply from
real M2M business solutions? What qualities does a reliable M2M business partner
possess?
Modem, Software und zugehörige Verbindungsleistungen
– wirklich erfolgreiche
M2M Angebote bieten weit mehr als
das. Die richtige Mischung von Marktkenntnis,
geeigneten Kommunikations-
und Verkaufskanälen und reibungslosen
Prozessen wird über den Erfolg beim
Markteintritt entscheiden.
In aufstrebenden jungen Märkten können
selbst die innovativsten Produkte
noch scheitern, wenn die wesentlichen
Komponenten nicht perfekt aufeinander
abgestimmt und zeitlich richtig geplant
sind.
M2M Lösungen vom
Telekommunikationsdienstleister
Während sich in den vergangenen Jahren
der M2M Bereich langsam entwickelte,
konnten sich die Telekommunikationsunternehmen
umfangreiche Erfahrungen
im Vertrieb ihrer Dienstleistungen
aneignen. Für Endkunden werden umfangreiche
Angebote entwickelt, die
mit Multimediadiensten und smarten
Geräten weit über die reine Telefonie
hinausgehen. Und auch Geschäftskunden
werden mit ausgeklügelten Produkten
für Ihre Unternehmen, wie unified
communications oder cloud computing,
adressiert. Die Telekommunikationsanbieter
haben somit ein unvergleichliches
Umfeld aufgebaut, das für nahezu jede
Branche und Kundengruppe die richtigen
Produkte, Verkaufs- und Lieferkanäle
bietet. Wenn es die Betreiber nun schaffen,
diese Vorzüge richtig darzustellen
und wirksam einzusetzen, können sie
weit mehr als nur M2M Datenübertragungsanbieter
sein. Sie entwickeln sich
zu unschätzbaren Geschäftspartnern für
die Anbieter von M2M Lösungen.
Wer als Telekommunikationsdienstleister
im M2M-Markt eine Rolle spielen
will, muss Verbindungs- und SIM-Management
Services nach dem allerneusten
Stand der Technik anbieten. Aber
wirklich erfolgreich werden nur die
jenigen sein, die ihren Kunden und Geschäftspartnern
vollen Zugang zu den
vorhandenen Kanälen, Ressourcen und
dem eigenen Know-how ermöglichen.
Successful M2M solutions are hardly
ever the mere combination of modem,
software application and connectivity.
It’s the composition of market know-how,
the right mix of sales and communication
channels, smooth delivery processes
and many more crucial ingredients that
determine the success of any market entry.
In the early stages of an emerging
industry, even the most innovative ideas
and greatest products are doomed to fail
if all those components are not perfectly
timed and tuned.
Access to Telco Ecosystem
In the last decades, when M2M was
slowly emerging, Telcos have gained experience
in successfully selling the widest
range of communication services. For
consumers with offerings ranging from
plain telephony over multimedia services
to smart gadgets; Or for B2B customers
with complex enterprise solutions in unified
communications or IT applications
in the cloud: Telcos have established an
unparalleled ecosystem of product offers
and communication, sales and delivery
channels addressing almost every industry
and customer segment. If operators
now understand to leverage and expose
these assets for M2M they can be much
more than just suppliers for connectivity
– they evolve into invaluable business
partners for M2M solution providers.
State-of-the-art managed connectivity
services are a must for all Telcos that aspire
to take a role in M2M. But the really
successful ones will be those, which are
willing to grant access to existing channels,
resources and know-how; those
which take the extra-mile to fully support
customers and partners in their go-tomarket.
Smart Meter
vor Angriffen schützen
Protecting Smart Meters
from Cyber Attacks
Sicherheitsstandards beachten
Smart meters will soon be mandatory in every German household. But for
safe use utilities as well as manufacturers should be aware of safety standards.
Die intelligenten Strom- oder Gasmessgeräte
versprechen eine Steigerung der
Energieeffizienz und des Bewusstseins
der Verbraucher. Doch weil Smart Meter
ausführliche Daten der Haushalte auslesen
und diese dann drahtlos an die Versorgungsunternehmen
übermitteln, bergen
sie enorme Sicherheitsrisiken. Hohe
Sicherheitsstandards sind also ein Muss
für den flächendeckenden Einsatz der digitalen
Zähler.
Strenge
Authentifizierungsprozesse
Intelligent smart meters not only improve
energy efficiency but also help increase
consumers’ awareness of energy issues.
However, as the meter records household
energy consumption data and transfers
the information wirelessly to the relevant
utilities it also poses a high security
threat. Therefore high security standards
are a prerequisite for the widespread deployment
of smart meters.
Secure data transfer
In order to guarantee secure household
monitoring, the bi-directional data
be encrypted. Strong authentication processes
are required to protect consumers’
privacy, especially when transferring
invoice data. Sierra Wireless’ Security
Plug-In for Open AT OS offers encrypted
protocols and support for SSL or IPSec,
making it a strong security solution. In
addition modern smart meters should
be equipped with alarm technologies
which are able to identify attacks and
react accordingly, for example, sending
Mess- und Monitoring System
für Hochspannungsleitungen
Measuring and Monitoring System
for High Voltage Lines
The operation of high voltage lines is carried out in accordance with strict legal requirements.
The shift of major consumption points and the change in the nature and
location of electric energy generating facilities (solar, wind) requires an intelligent
network control for the transportation of available energy at the right time to the right
main consumer points.
Die intelligente Nutzung der bestehenden
Netze (Smart Grid) ist in vielen Staaten
dem Neuausbau von Hochspannungsleitungen
vorzuziehen. Eine effiziente Methode,
um dies zu erreichen, ist Thermal
Rating.
Der Leitungszustand wird mittels Temperaturmessung
der Leiterseile ermittelt.
Mit steigender Temperatur dehnt sich das
Leiterseil aus und der Durchhang wird
größer. Dies limitiert die Übertragungskapazität,
da der erhöhte Durchhang zur
Verletzung des Mindestabstandes des
Seiles zum Boden führen kann.
Messprinzip und Sensoren
Der Leiterseilsensor ist in seinen Abmessungen
kompakt, verfügt über drei vom
Sensorkörper abgesetzte Messpunkte am
Leiterseilsensor
Conductor line sensor
Leiterseil (TCC, Teflon Coated Coupling)
und über einen Referenzsensor. Dieser ermöglicht
die Ermittlung des thermischen
Widerstandes des Sondenkörpers und
damit die Kompensation seiner Einflüsse
(Wind, Regen, Schnee, Sonnenstrahlung)
auf das Messergebnis. Das System
erreicht mit dieser Messanordnung eine
Systemgenauigkeit von + / - 1,5 °C.
Meteorologische Datenerfassung
Es können in Seilnähe auch meteorologische
Daten erfasst werden; Umgebungstemperatur,
Windgeschwindigkeit und
-richtung, Luftdruck, Luftfeuchte, Solarstrahlung.
Systemkonzept
Die Leiterseilsensoren sind batteriebetrieben
(Lebensdauer 10 Jahre) und funken
die gemessenen Daten an die Basisstation
am Mast. Für den Echtzeitbetrieb
beträgt das Messintervall eine Minute.
Die Werte werden in der Basisstation
gespeichert und in einem wählbaren Abstand,
online und über frei definierbare
Alarmkonditionen mittels GPRS an die
Datenbank übermittelt. Die Datenbank
wurde für Messzwecke entwickelt und
zeichnet sich durch eine im Vergleich zu
Standardsystemen um den Faktor 100
bessere Schnelligkeit aus.
Die Visualisierung der Messwerte erfolgt
in numerischen und graphischen Darstellungen.
Für die Weiterbearbeitung
der Daten steht eine Reihe von Transfermethoden
zur Verfügung.
Erfahrungswerte
emo wurde erstmals im April 2009 bei
einem österreichischen EVU installiert.
Im Sommer 2011 wird der 100ste Sensor
montiert. Die Erfahrungswerte sind überzeugend
positiv. Die Chancen im Laufe
des Jahres 2011 erste Projekte in Übersee
zu realisieren stehen sehr gut.
Das System wurde vom österreichischen
Technologieunternehmen Microtronics
Engineering GmbH unter Nutzung einer eigenen
Telemetrieplattform entwickelt. Die
Firma micca ist für den weltweiten Vertrieb
und Marketing von emo verantwortlich.
Systemkonzept
System concept
In many states the intelligent use of existing
networks (Smart Grid) is preferable to
the renovation of power lines. To achieve
this, thermal rating is an efficient method.
The line status is determined by measuring
the temperature of the conductor lines.
With increasing temperature the conductor
line expands and the sag increases.
This limits the transmission capacity since
increased slack can lead to violation of
minimum line to ground distance.
Measurement
principle and sensors
Compact in its dimensions, the conductor
line sensor has 3 measuring points,
remote from the sensor body on the conductor
(TCC, Teflon Coated Coupling) as
Basisstation am Mast
Base station on the mast
well as a reference sensor. This enables
thermal resistance determination of the
probe body and thus the compensation
of influences (wind, rain, snow, solar radiation)
on the measurement result. With
this measuring arrangement the system
achieves a system accuracy of +/- 1.5 °C.
Meteorological data collection
Meteorological data (e.g. environmental
temperature, wind velocity and direction,
air pressure, humidity, solar radiation),
can also be collected close to the line. This
data leads to the calculation of a predictive
value for possible additional transmission
capacity.
emo is capable of collecting data for up
to 15 line sensors. This is important since
various pole or mast constructions and
line mounts are possible. Two line sensors
(up to 85°C and up to 210 °C) and one sensor
for measuring at terminals are available.
In cooperation with the Technical University
of Graz, a sensor was developed that
can measure temperature and ice thickness.
The uniqueness of this sensor is that
it is able to detect the beginning of ice accretion,
and clearly distinguish between
freezing and defrosting.
System concept
The line sensors are battery operated
(lifespan of 10 years) and transmit the
measured data to the base station on the
mast. In real-time operation the measuring
interval is one minute.
The data is stored in the base station and
transmitted online and via user-definable
alarm conditions by way of GPRS to the
M2M Summit – Special Edition
database at freely selectable intervals.
The database was developed for measuring
purposes and distinguishes itself
through the fact that it is 100 times faster
compared to standard systems.
The visualization of the measured data
appears in numeric and graphic representations.
For further processing, a set
of data transfer methods is available.
Experience
emo was first installed in April 2009 at an
Austrian energy supply company. In the
summer of 2011, the 100th sensor was
mounted. Experiences have been very
positive. The chances of implementing
the first projects overseas in 2011 are very
good.
The system was developed by Microtronics
Engineering GmbH, an Austrian
technology company, using a separate
telemetry platform. The micca company
is responsible for emo’s worldwide sales
and marketing.
At Telefónica Germany M2M business is a strategic priority. Thus it
is not only important that customers benefit from the excellent connection
quality of the network. They also receive an M2M solution
that is easy and cost effective to implement.
Es ist keine Zukunftsvision mehr, sondern
heute schon M2M-Alltag in der Diskussion:
Autovermieter, welche die Standorte
und Leistungsdaten ihrer Fahrzeuge kontrollieren
und so ihre Diebstahlverluste und
Kosten minimieren, Blockheizkraftwerke,
die ihre Werte direkt an den Energielieferanten
oder ihre Kunden übermitteln und
so die Grundlage für dezentrale Konzepte
in der Energieversorgung bilden, oder
Servicetechniker, die schon vor ihrer Ankunft
wissen, was zu reparieren ist. Bei
der Gerätewartung haben sie immer die
richtigen Ersatzteile dabei, können eine
optimierte Route zu ihren Kunden fahren
und die wichtigsten Probleme schon über
die Fernwartung diagnostizieren.
Komplettlösungen
Die Anwendungsbeispiele für M2M und
die Geschäftsmodelle sind schon länger
bekannt. Kunden verlangen jedoch zunehmend
Komplettlösungen, die auf individuelle
Bedürfnisse abgestimmt sind und
ihre Prozesse optimieren. Die moderne
Kommunikationstechnologie ist aber nur
einer der notwendigen Bausteine für M2M
in Unternehmen. Der wahre Mehrwert ergibt
sich bei einem optimalen Zusammenspiel
von Geräten, Kommunikationsnet-
zen und den Workflows in Geschäfts- und
Endkundenprozessen. Solche Lösungen
für die automatische Kommunikation von
Maschine zu Maschine müssen optimal
vorbereitet und vor allem kostenoptimiert
sein, damit sie die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit
stärken.
Bei der Akquise und Realisierung von M2M-
Lösungen arbeitet Telefónica Germany eng
mit Partnern aus der IT-Branche und dem
Hardware-Bereich zusammen. Sie sind für
die technische Ausstattung der Maschinen
und Datenbanken sowie für die gemeinsame
Lösungsfindung zuständig. Die Vielfalt
der Kooperationen offenbart einen weiteren
Vorteil: Statt nur die Infrastruktur für
die Datenübertragung zu liefern, bietet
Telefónica Germany seinen Geschäftskunden
das gesamte Spektrum von M2M-
Lösungen aus einer Hand an. Die Kunden
profitieren dabei von der größtmöglichen
Standardisierung in der Lösungsfindung –
doch gleichzeitig bleiben ihre individuellen
Differenzierungsmöglichkeiten und ihre
Flexibilität erhalten.
Wachstumsmarkt mit Potenzial
Der Telefónica-Konzern hat die Ausweitung
dieses Geschäftsbereiches zu einem der
wichtigsten strategischen Ziele erklärt.
Diese Schwerpunktsetzung wird auch
durch den raschen Aufbau einer globalen
M2M-Einheit im Telefónica-Hautpquartier
in Madrid reflektiert. Durch diese globale
Einheit haben die operativen M2M-Landeseinheiten
den bestmöglichen Zugang
zur Innovationskraft der gesamten Gruppe.
Außerdem profitieren sie von den sehr
wettbewerbsfähigen globalen Tarifkonzepten
und können ihren international
agierenden Kunden in jedem Land den
optimalen Service bieten.
This is not a vision of the future but rather
today's everyday M2M we are discussing:
car rental companies that monitor the location
and performance data of their vehicles
and thus minimize their losses due
to theft and costs; cogeneration plants
that send their values directly to the energy
suppliers or their customers and thus
form the basis for decentralized concepts
for energy supply; or service technicians
who know what to repair even before
their arrival. For hardware maintenance,
the right spare parts are always on hand;
an optimized route is given for driving to
clients and the most important problems
are already diagnosed via remote maintenance.
Complete solutions
The sample applications for M2M and the
business models are already well known.
However, customers increasingly demand
complete solutions that are tailored to individual
needs and which optimize their processes.
Modern communication technology
is but just one of the necessary components
for M2M companies. The real added value
results in an optimal interplay of devices,
communications networks and workflows in
commercial and consumer processes. Such
solutions for the automatic communication
of machine to machine must be optimally
prepared and above all cost-optimized,
thus strengthening competitiveness.
In its acquisition and implementation of
M2M solutions, Telefónica Germany is
working closely with partners from the IT
sector and the hardware field. They are responsible
for the technical configuration of
the machines and databases, as well as for
joint solution finding. The variety of cooperation
activities reveals another advantage:
instead of only providing the infrastructure
for data transmission, Telefónica Germany
offers its business customers a full range
of M2M solutions from one source. Customers
benefit from the maximum possible
standardization in finding a solution – but
at the same time they maintain their individual
opportunities for differentiation and
flexibility.
Growth market with potential
The Telefónica Group has identified the
expansion of this business area as one of
its most important strategic goals. This
emphasis is also reflected by the rapid
development of a global M2M unit at
the Telefónica headquarters in Madrid.
Through this global unit, the operative
M2M country units have the best possible
access to the innovative power of the entire
group. They also benefit from the highly
competitive global tariff concepts and can
offer the best service to their internationally
active customers in each country.
technology. The so-called onboard unit
(OBU) consolidates the M2M module, the
GPS / GSM antenna, battery, and the user
interface together in a vandalism-resistant
manner. The benefits of this solution
for the user are already clearly noticeable
with the borrowing transaction.
Support with borrowing
and returning
By means of GPS positioning for the bicycles
and the integration of data in
OpenStreetMap, the nearest rental bike
location from the position of the user is
shown. The first step required for the Germany-wide
use of Call a Bike is to register
online or by phone at DB Rent. The actual
loan transaction is then automated on the
rental bike through GSM via the OBU. The
possibility for discontinuing use is also
widely available. Returning the rental
bike is considerably simplified, since it is
no longer bound to a station and requires
no active communication with the borrower.
Among other things, the smartphone
application allows a listed display
leistungsfähiges Kommunikations system
zur Anbindung des Mobiltelefons an das
Fahrzeug. Dadurch wird das Auto mit dem
Internet verbunden und bietet verschiedene
Infotainmentdienste wie Internet-Radio,
Echtzeit-Verkehrsinformationen, Notruf
of available bicycles and locations, a listing
of the travel costs and display of the
codes required for borrowing. Along with
the time-consuming search and return of
rental bikes improperly registered upon
return, administrative rental expenses
are also eliminated.
The application of this solution shows
how users and service providers can
benefit. M2M applications optimize and
automate business processes, since vehicles,
devices and machinery communicate
bidirectionally via mobile phone
networks with each other or with a control
therefore dedicated automotive protocols
have been developed and standardized,
i.e. IEEE 802.11p / ETSI ITS G5.
In order to prepare the roll-out of cooperative
systems, Ford is globally contributing
to various research projects in cooperation
with other OEMs, suppliers, research
institutes and governments.
Application example
One example how intelligent vehicles
may help to avoid accidents is the “Electronic
Emergency Brake Light”. This function
assists the driver in case of hard
braking vehicles ahead and, in particular,
in avoiding front / rear collisions.
If the driver of a vehicle ahead performs
an emergency braking, this event will be
detected and, together with vehicle data
such as position, speed, and direction of
travel, transmitted to other vehicles. The
receiving vehicle will then warn the driver
if a hazardous situation is apparent.
Workshop Intelligente Mobilität
Das Experimentieren ist vorbei –
M2M auf dem Vormarsch!
The Experimentation Is Over –
M2M Is on the Rise!
Parallel zum Thema „Mobiler Arbeitsplatz“
ist das Feld „M2M“ einer DER
beiden Markttreiber der gesamten
ITK-Branche. „Mobile kommt!“ hört
man seit Anfang des Jahrzehntes –
immer wieder gehyped, immer wieder
verschoben.
Parallel to the theme of a “mobile
workplace” the field of “M2M” is one
of THE two market drivers for the entire
ICT industry. “Mobile is coming!” has
been heard since the beginning of the
decade – repeatedly hyped, repeatedly
postponed.
Die Anzeichen stehen jedoch gut, dass
das Gesamtthema „Mobile“ nach so vielen
Jahren der Erwartung nun wirklich
kommt: Sehr massenkompatibel und mit
großer Wucht. Bei den Smartphones und
Tablets ist dieses offensichtlich, bei M2M
noch etwas verdeckter.
Kein Randthema mehr
Die Experimentierphase der Anbieter und
Early Adaptors sind vorüber und haben
vieles bewirkt: War M2M bis vor kurzer
Zeit noch Randthema, so haben sich die
deutschen Netzbetreiber nun vernünftig
aufgestellt und entsprechende Geschäftsmodelle
und Vertriebskonzepte
dafür entwickelt. Auch die Lösungsanbieter
können inzwischen von „erprobter
Technologie“ sprechen und somit auch
ROI-Kennzahlen mit seriösen Praxisbeispielen
hinterlegen.
Telematikprojekte bei Speditionen
Der Bereich Telematik ist immer noch ein
guter Indikator für die Entwicklung von
M2M, war dieses doch eines der ersten
echten M2M-Felder in Form verschiedens-
22 M2M Journal 09 | M2M Summit – Special Edition | 09/11
ter GPS-Ortungslösungen. Durch den europaweiten
Einsatz von LKWs ist dies mit Sicherheit
ein anspruchsvolles M2M-Thema.
In der Studie „Telematikprojekte bei Speditionen“
hat RAAD Research deutsche
Speditionsunternehmen mit mehr als 100
Mitarbeitern zu Erfahrungen und Investitionsbereitschaft
mit dieser Technologie
befragt.
Im Ergebnis zeigt sich, dass 80 Prozent
der Unternehmen mit mehr als 100 Mitarbeitern
Erfahrung mit Telematiklösungen
haben und eine solche aktiv einsetzen.
Überraschend hoch auch die Flottenabdeckung,
sie liegt bei diesen Unternehmen
bei 65 Prozent.
Die reine Ortungsfunktion ist somit bereits
zum Standard bei den großen Speditionen
geworden.
The use of telematics technology in German trucking companies with
more than 100 employees. This segment shows high penetration.
anderen M2M-Marktsegmente abseits
der Telematik.
The signs are good, however, that the
overall topic of “Mobile” after so many
years of expectation is now really coming:
very mainstream and with great impact.
With smartphones and tablets this is obvious,
for M2M it is somewhat hidden.
No longer a side issue
The experimental phase for providers and
early adapters is over and it has accomplished
a lot: M2M was still a side issue
until recently, and thus the German grid
operators have now gotten set up intelligently
and have developed appropriate
business models and marketing concepts
for it. Even the solution providers can now
speak of “proven technology” and therefore
furnish ROI figures with serious practical
examples as well.
Telematics projects
for shipping companies
The telematics field is still a good indicator
of the development of M2M, as it was one
of the first true M2M fields in the form of
various GPS tracking solutions. For Europewide
application in trucks – including security
– this is a sophisticated M2M topic.
In the study, “Telematics projects for
shipping companies,” RAAD Research
has surveyed German shipping companies
with more than 100 employees on
their experiences with and willingness to
invest in this technology.
The results show that 80 percent of companies
with more than 100 employees
have experience with telematics solutions
and actively use one of these. Also surprisingly
high was the fleet coverage, which is
about 65 percent for these companies.
The pure location function has thus already
become the standard for the major
trucking companies. The investigations of
Workshop Intelligente Mobilität
RAAD Research show that businesses are
investing in the development of telematics
in order to more strongly integrate
them into business processes. Examples
include the digital transmission of orders
and routes, or coupling with the digital
tachograph.
This willingness of companies to introduce
M2M even in critical business processes
shows that many reservations as
well as specific difficulties with the technology
have been overcome.
These are very good signs – also for all
other M2M market segments outside of
telematics.
Fahrzeugnahe Telematikdienste NRW
Vehicular Telematics’ Services NRW
Die Lösung aktueller und zukünftiger
Verkehrsprobleme wird eine der wichtigsten
Aufgaben der nächsten Jahre
werden. Insbesondere für Ballungsräume
wird es eine intensivere Diskussion
über Elektromobilität, die Verbindung
von Individualverkehr und ÖPNV sowie
mögliche zeitliche und räumliche
Zugangsbeschränkungen geben.
Traffic management in urbanised areas
is set to become one of the biggest
challenges of the next years.
Die dazu notwendigen Plattformen und
Systeme befinden sich heute schon teilweise
im Wirkbetrieb, jedoch fehlt noch
eine einheitliche, standardisierte Basis
um Telematikdienste wirkungsvoll anzubieten.
Verkehrsleitsysteme
Allein in NRW sind ca. 9 Millionen PKWs
angemeldet und es werden jährlich ca.
650 Millionen Tonnen Güter und Waren
über NRWs Straßen transportiert.
Es wurden computergestützte Verkehrsleitsysteme
eingeführt, um dem ständig
steigenden Verkehrsaufkommen Herr zu
werden. Aber eine flächendeckende Einführung
ist aufwendig und kostspielig.
Intelligente fahrzeugnahe Telematikdienste
können unter anderem zur Lösung
dieser Herausforderungen einen wesentlichen
Beitrag leisten.
Hierzu zählen wir:
X Umweltzonen-Management
X Staudienste / Verkehrskamera-Übermittlung
X Elektronische Parkraumbewirtschaftung
X Verursachergerechte Abrechnung von
Infrastrukturnutzung und Versicherungen
X Mobile Online-Zahlungssysteme für
Tanken und Maut
X Flottenmanagement mit intelligenter
Verkehrssteuerung
Offene Plattform
für Telematikdienste
Die zukünftige E-Mobility wird ganz neue
Herausforderungen an fahrzeugnahe Telematikdienste
stellen. Neue Dienste und
Services werden angeboten oder mit bestehenden
verknüpft.
Da diese Dienste von vielen unterschiedlichen
Anbietern auf den Markt gebracht
werden, bedarf es einer offenen Plattform,
die die Grundlage für interoperable
und sichere Telematikdienste für Dritte
(Dienste-Anbieter), insbesondere
kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, bereitstellt.
Beabsichtigt ist, eine neuartige offene
Plattform (Enabler-Plattform) für Telematikdienste
aufzubauen. Hierbei macht
sich das Konsortium die im Rahmen der
„European Electronic Toll Services“ (EETS)
entstehenden Standards zu Nutze. Die
Grundlagen für sichere Kommunikation
und Abrechnung von Telematikdiensten
sind damit bereits gelegt. Darüber hinaus
können über diese Enabler-Plattform
dann auch die zukünftigen Mautdienste
abgerechnet werden.
Die technologische Basis hierzu stellt die
Übertragung von in der Regel kleinen Datenmengen
dar, welche optimal mit M2M
Methoden und Systemen abgebildet und
verwaltet werden können.
Die Enabler-Plattform beinhaltet eine System-
und Geschäftsplattform, das notwendige
Interoperabilitäts-Management
sowie alle Mechanismen für eine sichere
Kommunikation. Damit wird es möglich,
sehr schnell neue Telematikdienste zu
entwickeln und zu etablieren.
Hier bieten sich insbesondere für viele
KMUs (kleine und mittelständische
Unternehmen) neue Geschäftsmöglichkeiten.
Die Unternehmen Dr. Materna
GmbH, 7Layers AG, escrypt GmbH, Ruhr
Universität Bochum, m&b consulting Keuling
& Partner sowie weitere Kooperationspartner
haben sich zu diesem Zweck
sortium zusammengeschlossen und bringen
hierfür das notwendige Know-How
und umfangreiche praktische Erfahrungen
mit. Sie sind sicher, viele der skizzierten
Probleme intelligent lösen zu können
und einen neu entstehenden Telematik
Markt wesentlich mit zu gestalten.
The integration of traffic with electromobility
will open new markets and new applications.
Potential technology platforms and solutions
are visible, but until now, a common
basis for these telematics services is missing.
Intelligent vehicular Telematics’ services
can help to solve these problems.
For an example, we foresee:
X Management of environmental areas
X Traffic control and management
X Electronic mobile parking systems
X Pay as you drive and pay as you use
X Mobile payment systems
X Intelligent Fleet management
Open Platform for mobile services
Next generation of e-mobility and e-vehicles
will bring up totally new challenges
for next generation telematics services.
The very quick development and launching
of intelligent mobile services will become
crucial for their success.
M2M BY MORPHO
As many of these services will be offered
from numerous small and medium sized
companies, an independent open platform
is crucial for their interconnection.
Besides new services and platforms, the
interoperability testing and management
of these services and devices alongside
next generation of mobile security and
personal data protection will become a
challenge.
The currently used basis technologies are
the standards and services for “European
Electronic Toll Service (EETS)”.
These are widely developed and will become
the standards for the next generation
of pan-European road payment and
toll services. They are optimised for the
transmission of small quantities of M2M
mobile data, fulfilling the requirement for
our vehicular telematics services.
M2M Summit – internationale
Konferenz mit steigendem Zuspruch
M2M Summit – International
Conference with Increasing Popularity
Die M2M Alliance e.V. veranstaltet
für ihre Mitglieder und Interessenten
jährlich den M2M Summit. Das Top
Event der Branche bietet den Besuchern
in diesem Jahr ein deutlich erweitertes
Programm.
The M2M Alliance e.V. organizes the
M2M Summit for its members and
prospective members annually. This
year the top industrial event offers its
visitors a much broader program.
Auf dem Branchentreffpunkt Nr. 1 sorgen
sechs parallele Workshops dafür, dass
jeder Teilnehmer das passende Thema für
seinen Interessenbereich findet. Schwerpunkte
bilden die Themen Intelligente
Mobilität, Remote Services, Smart Energy
und M2M across the world. In diesem Jahr
bietet die Veranstaltung einen zusätzlichen
Schwerpunkt für Techniker und
Entwickler. In zwei Entwicklerforen werden
Fragen zur Qualitätssicherung in der
M2M Kommunikation beantwortet und
die „Next Generation“ im M2M Geschäft
beleuchtet.
Der M2M Summit positioniert sich inzwischen
auch international. Erstmals finden
einige Kongressteile in englischer
Sprache statt und ziehen damit auch eine
Reihe internationaler Besucher an. Die
Workshops „Intelligente Mobilität“ und
„Smart Energy“ werden zudem simultan
vom Deutschen ins Englische übersetzt.
Die Präsenz einer kanadischen Handelsdelegation
bildet ein weiteres Highlight
der diesjährigen Konferenz. Das kanadische
Ministerium für auswärtige Angelegenheiten
und internationalen Handel
(DFAIT) begleitet zusammen mit Wavefront,
einem kanadischen Kompetenzzentrum
für drahtlose Kommunikation, eine
ausgewählte Gruppe von kanadischen
M2M Unternehmen zum M2M Summit
2011.
Der M2M Summit hat sich damit in den
letzten Jahren zu einer Markt bestimmenden
Konferenz entwickelt, die Besuchern
eine hervorragende Vernetzung mit potenziellen
Partnern und Kunden national und
international bietet.
Ein Höhepunkt des Programms ist die
Verleihung des M2M Best Practice Award.
Mit der Auszeichnung würdigt die M2M
Alliance e.V. nun schon zum fünften Mal
in der Kategorie „Innovation“ und „Advantage“
zukunftsweisende Leistungen
in der Erforschung und Anwendung von
M2M-Technologien.
At this number one industrial meeting
point, six parallel workshops will ensure
that each participant finds a suitable topic
in his/her area of interest. Focus topics
will be: Intelligent Mobility, Remote Services,
Smart Energy and M2M across the
world. This year the event will provide additional
points of interest for technicians
and developers. In two developer forums,
questions on quality assurance in M2M
communications will be answered and the
“Next Generation” of M2M technology will
be highlighted.
M2M Summit has positioned itself internationally
as well. For the first time parts
of the Congress will be held in English and
thus also attract international visitors.
The workshops “Intelligent Mobility” and
“Smart Energy” will be translated simultaneously
from German to English.
The presence of a Canadian trade delegation
is a further highlight of the conference.
The Canadian Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), together
with Wavefront, a Canadian centre
of excellence for wireless communication,
will accompany a selected group of Canadian
M2M companies to the M2M Summit
2011. Thus, M2M Summit has grown into
a market defining conference in recent
years, providing excellent networking
with potential national and international
partners and customers for its visitors.
Another special feature of the program
is the awarding of the M2M Best Practice
Award. With this award, now already for
the fifth time in the category “Innovation”
and “Advantage” for sustainable accomplishments,
the M2M Alliance e.V. will
recognize achievements in research and
Workshop Smart Grid, Smart Energy und Smart Metering
Stromkunden nutzen flexible Stromtarife
Consumers Use Flexible Energy Tariffs
Home networking and automation solutions are on the rise and help consumers in
their everyday lives. One major part of this trend is the interaction between appliances
and the energy grid of the future, the so-called smart grid.
Doch zahlen sich der Einsatz von Smart-
Grid-fähigen Hausgeräten und die gezielte
Nutzung günstiger Tarife tatsächlich
aus? Die BSH Bosch und Siemens
Hausgeräte GmbH und die E.ON Metering
GmbH sind dieser Frage nachgegangen.
Waschen und Spülen
wenn es günstig ist
Die Energielieferanten sind seit Anfang
des Jahres dazu angehalten, dem Kunden
variable Stromtarife anzubieten.
Die Preisunterschiede der Tarife bilden
das Kernkriterium, nach dem intelligente
Hausgeräte künftig ihre Inbetriebnahme
selbstständig steuern.
In einer Studie von BSH E.ON mit 100 Teilnehmern
wurde untersucht, inwieweit
Verbraucher bereit sind, den Betrieb ih-
rer Geräte flexiblen Tarifen anzupassen.
In einer ersten Phase wurde über einen
Zeitraum von vier Wochen das „normale“
Verhalten dokumentiert – das heißt ohne
variable Tarife. Der eigentliche Feldversuch
mit einem dynamischen Tarif erfolgte
anschließend in einer zweiten Phase. Alle
Haushalte wurden hierfür mit einem Apple
iPod Touch ausgestattet, der über einen
Zeitraum von rund sieben Wochen den aktuellen
Stromtarif, eine Preis-Voraussage
für die nächsten zwölf Stunden und eine
Drei-Tages-Preisprognose anzeigte.
Großes Potential
in dynamischen Tarifen
Die Auswertungen der Studie zeigen:
Die Kunden sind bereit, ihr Verhalten
dynamischen Stromtarifen anzupassen:
iPODs informiert.
Participating households received the
information about study and right use of
iPODs in their homes.
rend der zweiten Phase verschoben.
In Preisen ausgedrückt heißt das: Ab
30 Cent / kWh wurde im Normalfall auf
die Nutzung verzichtet. Lag die mögliche
Ersparnis bei einer Preisdifferenz
von 15 Cent / kWh oder mehr, wurde der
Wasch- oder Spülvorgang nahezu immer
verschoben. Im Vergleich zur Nutzung
eines Standardtarifs ist auf Basis des
genutzten Tarifmodells eine Kosteneinsparung
von 25 Prozent möglich. Die
Studie zeigt aber auch: Viele Verbraucher
sind zwar stark am Thema Energiekosten
interessiert, besitzen aber keine
Detailkenntnisse über ihre Stromtarife,
insbesondere hinsichtlich Preis pro kWh
und Geräteverbrauch. Dementsprechend
werden die Einsparbeträge einer flexiblen
Stromnutzung von den Verbrauchern
deutlich überschätzt.
Gute Gründe für
energieeffiziente Hausgeräte
Eine wichtige Erkenntnis der Studie ist,
dass die tatsächlichen Kosten und Verbrauchsvolumina
der Geräte künftig
transparenter dargestellt werden müssen.
Bei kommenden Gerätegenerationen
werden deshalb verstärkt die Trends
der Energiewirtschaft berücksichtigt.
Since smart grid-capable home appliances
can save money by taking advantage
of reduced electricity rates (such as
night rates).
Doing the laundry and washing
dishes when rates are low
Since the beginning of this year, energy
utilities are obliged to offer consumers
variable power tariffs. It is these price
differences that will form the core criterion
by which smart home appliances
will control their own operation in the future
– if individual end users want to use
this feature. With E.ON Metering GmbH
BSH conducted a study in the first quarter
of 2011 on smart homes and dynamic
electricity tariffs. The companies analyzed
how many end users would be willing
to adapt the operation of their appliances
to flexible electricity rates. 100
German households participated in the
study. During an initial four-week phase
of the study, the “normal” consumption
behaviour of the participants – that is,
without variable electricity tariffs – was
documented. The actual field phase,
with the dynamic tariff, took place in a
second phase immediately thereafter.
For this part of the trial, all the households
were provided with an Apple iPod
Touch which, for a period of around six
weeks, displayed the current electricity
tariff, a price prediction for the next
twelve hours and a price forecast for the
next three days.
High saving potential
in flexible energy tariffs
The results proved that customers are
willing to adapt their behavior to variable
electricity tariffs: in the second
phase they moved 50 percent of all activities
to lower-cost periods. If savings
reached 15 cents per kWh or more, they
moved running the washing machine or
the dishwasher to a lower-cost period al-
Workshop Smart Grid, Smart Energy und Smart Metering
Über einen iPOD Touch
wurden die flexiblen
Strompreise dargestellt
– in diesem Beispiel die
3-Tages-Prognose.
Via an iPOD Touch the
dynamic electricity tariffs
were shown – this example
shows the 3-day-forecast.
most every time. By doing this, savings of
25 percent are possible compared to the
standard tariff. The study also showed
that many consumers are very interested
in energy costs, but have no detailed
knowledge of electricity tariffs, particularly
in terms of price per kWh and the efficiency
of their appliances.
Good reasons for energy efficient
household appliances
“For future appliance generations we
will increasingly take the trends in the
utility industry into account,” says Dr.
Claudia Häpp. “As soon as the market
indicates a demand for appliances that
can communicate with the smart grid using
standardized technologies, we will
have matching solutions in our portfolio.
Nevertheless, the energy efficiency of appliances
continues to be a much more effective
lever in our quest for real resource
savings.”
wie Z-Wave und Zigbee deutlich überlegen
und vom TÜV NORD überprüft.
Systemkonzept
Neben der RWE SmartHome-Zentrale gehören
Heizkörperthermostate, Zwischenstecker
(für Elektro-Geräte / Leuchten) sowie
Wandsender und eine Fernbedienung
zum System. Dazu kommen Rauch- und
Bewegungsmelder, Tür- und Fenstersensoren,
Outdoor-Zwischenstecker sowie
Lichtdimmer. RWE SmartHome ist modular
erweiterbar. Die Ergänzung des Systems
durch neue Geräte und Funktionen
ist schrittweise möglich, wie z.B. zukünftig
durch Unterputzgeräte.
Die Vorteile von RWE SmartHome sind:
Einfache Installation per Plug & Play, Apps
für komplexe Vorgänge (z.B. „Virtueller
Bewohner“), Intuitive Benutzeroberfläche
(Programmierung per Drag & Drop),
Weltweiter Zugriff per Computer oder
Smartphone und ein optisch ansprechendes
Design.
The system can be easily installed by
“plug & play” so you neither need special
technical knowledge nor external help.
No cable required
As all devices are radio-controlled, cables
do not have to be laid nor walls to be
opened up. Smartphone users can control
all functions remotely. As far as data security
is concerned, the encryption of the
communication protocol far outclasses all
protocols that have so far been used for
home automation, such as Z-Wave and
Zigbee. It has been tested by the Technical
Control Board, TÜV NORD.
System concept
Apart from the central RWE SmartHome
control unit, the system comprises radiator
thermostats, adapter plugs (for
electrical equipment / lamps) as well as
wall-mounted transmitters and a remote
control. Additional devices are also available,
such as smoke and movement detectors,
door and window sensors, outdoor
adapter plugs and dimmers. RWE Smart-
Home is a module-based system to which
new equipment and functions can be added
on a step-by-step basis, such as in-wall
devices, for instance.
RWE SmartHome offers many advantages:
easy plug & play installation, Apps for
complex processes (e.g. “virtual inhabitant”),
intuitive user interface (drag & drop
programming), worldwide access via computer
or Smartphone and an optically attractive
design.
Medizin der Zukunft! Patientennachversorgung
in der Gegenwart
Medical Science of the Future!
Patient After-care in the Present
Wie wird ein Patient versorgt, der
nicht mehr stationär behandelt wird?
Wie bekommt der Arzt trotzdem die
relevanten Informationen zur Beurteilung
des Krankheitsbildes?
How is a patient cared for who is not
treated in hospital any more? How
does the doctor nevertheless receive
the relevant information to assess the
clinical picture?
Der Anruf der IT Abteilung eines großen
Gesundheitszentrums führte die MarcanT
GmbH in die Welt des Gesundheitswesens.
Nachversorgung
mit mobilem Endgerät
Um den Gesundheitszustand ihrer Patienten
beurteilen und ggf. rasch eingreifen
zu können, sollte die Patientennachversorgung
mit Hilfe eines mobilen
Endgerätes erfolgen, welches dem Patienten
zur Verfügung gestellt werden
sollte. Die Klinik hatte hierfür bereits
ein eigenes Programm auf Windowsbasis
geschrieben. Als Endgerät wurde das
HTC HD2 ausgewählt. Aber wie gelangen
jetzt die Fragebögen auf das Endgerät?
Und wie kann verhindert werden, dass
der Patient mit dem Telefon privat surft
und immense Kosten verursacht?
Workshop Remote Services
Sicherheit mit dem MarcanT-Portal
Als Lösung hat die MarcanT GmbH der
Klinik die Möglichkeit bereitgestellt, mit
von MarcanT vergebenen, festen privaten
IP Adressen auf die Datenkarte des
gewählten Endgerätes zugreifen zu können
und somit auf die dortige Applikation.
Über das MarcanT-Portal M-CCP wird
zusätzlich der Datenverkehr kontrolliert,
um Missbrauch des Nutzers zu verhindern
und Kosten zu begrenzen. Das Portal
sorgt auch dafür, dass das Einbuchen
der Karte im Ausland verhindert wird.
Per Schwellwertdefinition erfolgt sowohl
eine Alarmierung als auch eine Trennung
des Datenstroms automatisiert. Das
M2M Journal 09 | M2M Summit – Special Edition | 09/11 33
Workshop Remote Services
A call of the IT department of a big health
centre brought MarcanT GmbH into the
realm of health care.
Patient after-care
with mobile terminal
In order to be able to assess the status of
their patients’ health and intervene swiftly
if necessary, the patient after-care was
34 M2M Journal 09 | M2M Summit – Special Edition | 09/11
to be carried out by means of a mobile
terminal to be provided to the patient.
The clinic already had written its own
program on a Windows basis for this.
The HTC HD2 was chosen as the terminal.
But how to transfer the questionnaires to
the terminal now? And how to avoid that
the patient surfs the internet via the telephone
and causes immense costs?
Safety with MarcanT portal
As a solution MarcanT GmbH provided
the hospital with the possibility to access
the data card of the selected terminal,
and with it the local application, by
means of fixed private IP addresses allocated
by MarcanT. In addition, the data
traffic is controlled through the MarcanT
portal M-CCP in order to prevent misuse
by the user and limit costs. Furthermore,
the portal makes sure that a log-in of
the card from a foreign country is prevented.
By means of a threshold definition
both alert and disconnection of the
data stream are automated. However, the
portal also enables immediate reconnec-
tion of the data card if desired. Through
a IPSec link to the MarcanT data centre,
the hospital now has an autonomous and
closed system, monitored twenty-fourseven
by means of MarcanT-NOC at the
customer’s request.
Now it remains to hope that the patients
recover as quickly as possible with the
technology provided for them!
Kritische Erfolgsfaktoren
bei der Umsetzung von
M2M Geschäftsmodellen
Critical Success Factors
in the Implementation
of M2M Business Models
Im gesättigten Mobilfunkmarkt gilt die Machine-To-Machine-Kommunikation (M2M)
als Segment mit enormen Wachstumschancen.
The M2M segment tends to be the growth segment within the saturated telecommunications
industry.
Im Gegensatz zu klassischen Telekommunikationsdiensten
zeichnen sich
M2M-Lösungen neben einer hohen Anzahl
sehr individueller Endgeräte häufig
durch eine enge Verzahnung der an
der Wertschöpfungskette beteiligten
Serviceparteien aus. Dies führt zu einer
entsprechenden Vielzahl an Verantwortungsbereichen,
welche sowohl aus
technologischer, als auch aus prozessualer
Perspektive klar definiert und abgegrenzt
werden müssen.
Verbindlicher
Kommunikationsplan
Ein passender und verbindlicher Kommunikationsplan
ermöglicht dabei die
effiziente Abstimmung zwischen den
Partnern, wobei ein Service Level Agreement
(SLA) neben den KPIs (Key Performance
Indicators) der Servicegüte ebenfalls
die Kommunikation zwischen den
Service-Desk-Instanzen der Serviceparteien
steuert, um bei Abweichungen von
der angestrebten Prozessqualität rechtzeitig
geeignete Gegenmaßnahmen treffen
zu können.
Im Vergleich zu den klassischen Telekommunikationssegmenten,
stellen die
Verfügbarkeit, Stabilität und Performance
bei großer Anzahl von Kommunikationspunkten
und geringen Margen
die Eingangskriterien zum M2M Markt
dar. Vielfach setzt sich die Verfügbarkeit
von M2M Services aus den Teilverfügbarkeiten
der Servicepartner zusammen.
Reduzierung des Ausfallrisikos
Eine Kompensation des Ausfallrisikos
kann im Allgemeinen nur unzureichend
über SLAs abgedeckt werden. Häufig
übersteigt die Schadenshöhe bei einem
Serviceausfall die zu erwartenden Ausgleichzahlungen
bei einem existierenden
Malus-Modell. Das niedrige Preisniveau
der Kommunikationsleistungen
im M2M-Segment lässt eine volle Kompensation
bei einem vollständigen Serviceausfall
selten zu. Somit steht eine
Reduzierung des Ausfallrisikos durch effektives
Service- und Qualitätsmanagement
im Fokus der Risikobetrachtung.
LionGate AG ist ein Projektmanagement-
und Beratungs-Unternehmen und ein
aktives Mitglied der M2M Alliance. Wir
unterstützen Sie bei der Einführung von
M2M Anwendungen und bei der Etablierung
sinnvoller Service Management
Prozesse und machen so M2M für Sie zu
einem nachhaltigen Erfolg.
Workshop Remote Services
In contrast to traditional telecommunication
services, M2M services are characterised
by a huge amount of service specific
terminals and a close integration of
the involved service parties. This leads
to many areas of responsibilities, which
have to be clearly defined and distinguished
from each other from the technological
as well as the business process
perspective.
Binding communication plan
An appropriate and binding communication
plan is the tool of choice for achieving
an efficient alignment between the
involved service partners. Service Level
Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs) are powerful tools to
manage and control service quality and
service desk operations. KPIs are indicators
for quality variances and define trigger
points for corrective actions.
The success criteria for M2M services
models are availability, reliability and
performance. This applies especially,
when third parties are involved in service
delivery.
Compensation of default risks
Default risks cannot be completely compensated
by Service Level Agreements
and aligned penalty models. Due to the
low Average Revenue Per Unit (ARPU) in
the M2M business, the impact of damages
during a service outage will most
likely exceed the amount of the potential
penalty payments. The preferred method
for M2M risk management is an integrated
Service- and Quality Management
supporting the service value chain from
an end-to-end service perspective.
vorausschauend statt präventiv durchgeführt
werden – bevor Probleme für
den Kunden bemerkbar sind. Dadurch
kann die Produktverfügbarkeit und die
Kundenzufriedenheit deutlich gesteigert
werden.
Neue Serviceleistungen
M2M ermöglicht es Unternehmen, Fernservice
für ihre Produkte anzubieten:
Der beste verfügbare Experte kann, unabhängig
vom Standort des Produkts,
eingesetzt werden. Dies ist besonders
attraktiv für international tätige Unternehmen.
Aber auch regional orientierten
Firmen kann Fernservice helfen, Reisekosten
zu reduzieren.
Produkte die bisher “offline” waren, können
durch M2M in Geschäftsprozesse
(z.B. ERP, CRM) oder in den Tagesablauf
eines Endkunden (z.B. Smartphone App)
eingebunden werden. M2M verbindet
Produkte mit praktisch allen IT-Systemen
und ermöglicht so Unternehmen und ihren
Kunden Fernzugriff auf ihre Produkte.
Um das volle Potential von M2M auszuschöpfen,
sollte neben einer
technischen Analyse insbesondere
eine Betrachtung hinsichtlich
der umfangreichen
Potentiale zur Produkt- und
Serviceerweiterung erfolgen.
Mit M2M eröffnet sich
ein umfassendes Feld für
innovative Dienste: für jedes
Produkt und jedes serviceorientierte
Unternehmen.
Financing and leasing are common offerings
for high-value products. With
the availability of live operational data
through M2M, it is possible to offer usage-based
leasing models to customers.
This opens new markets and increases
revenues.
Based on live M2M data also services for
product maintenance can be improved by
moving from a preventive model to predictive
maintenance. Maintenance can be
carried out on-demand and before problems
are noticed by the customer. This
leads to higher product availability and
customer satisfaction.
Through M2M a company can offer remote
service for their products: The best available
expert can be assigned, independent
from the product’s location. While
especially appealing to companies with
an international footprint, also regional
companies can use remote service to save
travel expenses.
Products that have formerly been “offline”
can be integrated into business processes
(e.g. ERP, CRM) and support lifestyle applications
(e.g. Smartphone App). M2M
connects products to virtually any IT-System
and allows a company and its customers
to remotely access their products.
To leverage the full potential of M2M, it
has to be seen as a tool for product and
service augmentation rather than a mere
technology concept. M2M opens a wide
field of innovative service offerings – to
any product or service oriented company
and to any market.
In the business world, M2M is generally understood to mean the automated exchange
group Cyber Defense, participating in the
international project CoNSIS (Coalition
Herausforderungen aus Netzbetreibersicht
für M2M Applikationen
Requirements for M2M Applications
and Challenges from
a Network Operator’s View
Der M2M Markt boomt. Immer mehr
Lösungen halten Einzug in betriebliche
Abläufe. Zugleich werden die Anforderungen
an M2M-Applikationen
immer komplexer.
The M2M market is booming. More
and more solutions are finding their
way into business processes. At the
same time the requirements for M2M
applications are becoming more and
more complex.
Als führender Netzbetreiber in Deutschland
und anderen Märkten, verfügt Vodafone
über umfangreiches Detailwissen im Bereich
der Hard- und Software sowie der zur
Verfügung stehenden Übertragungswege
für die M2M Kommunikation. Dieses Wissen
erleichtert den Entwurf, die Planung
und Entwicklung sowie die Realisierung einer
M2M-Applikation erheblich.
Technische Reife
Besonders im Bereich der M2M-Wireless-
Technologien fällt auf, dass es vielen Applikationen
heute noch an technischer
Reife mangelt, um einwandfrei mit den
existierenden Mobilfunknetzen zu kommunizieren.
Neben IP-Kommunikation in Funknetzen
per GPRS, EDGE, UMTS und HSXPA
und LTE spielen auch die SIM-Karte, Aktivierungs-
und Deaktivierungstools sowie die
verwendeten Mobilfunkmodule als Herzstück
jeder M2M Hardware eine entscheidende
Rolle in der Ende-zu-Ende Qualität
aller Anwendungen.
Entwicklerforum
Eine Antwort darauf und die Erfahrungen als
Mobilfunkbetreiber werden im Entwicklerforum
„Mission Qualitätssicherung“ gegeben.
Als führender Anbieter im M2M-Markt
verfügt Vodafone über eine große Erfahrung
in der Bereitstellung verschiedener M2M-
Toolkits für Entwickler. Darüber hinaus geben
Zertifizierungsprogramme von Modulen
diverser Modulhersteller Sicherheit bei
der Auswahl der richtigen Komponenten.
Denn nur das richtige Zusammenspiel aller
Komponenten führt zum Ziel. Wie dieses
Zusammenspiel aussehen muss, zeigt der
Workshop unter folgenden Gesichtspunkten:
X Einblick in die technischen Anforderungen
der M2M Datenübertragung
X M2M Hardware Typisierung und Betrachtung
von Qualitätspunkten: Modul,
Applikation, Interaktion mit dem Mobilfunknetz
X Ableitung von Ansätzen für die Applikation
/ Modul-Kommunikation und die
As the leading network operator in Germany
and other markets, Vodafone has extensive
detailed knowledge in the field of hardware
and software and the available transmission
paths for M2M communication. This
knowledge facilitates the design, planning,
development and implementation of an
M2M application considerably.
Technical maturity
What is remarkable, particularly in the area
of M2M wireless technologies, is that many
applications still lack the technical maturity
to communicate properly with the existing
mobile networks. SIM cards, activation and
deactivation tools as well as the mobile
modules used as the core of any M2M hardware
all play a crucial role in the end-to-end
quality of all applications in addition to IP
communications in wireless networks via
GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSXPA and LTE.
Developer forums
The answer to this as well as the experiences
of mobile operators will be presented
at the "Mission Quality Assurance” developer
forum. As a leader in the M2M market,
Vodafone has a lot of experience in the provision
of various M2M toolkits for developers.
In addition, certification programs of
various module manufacturers provide assurance
in the selection of the correct components,
since only the proper interaction
of all components gets the right results.
What this interaction should look like can
be seen at the workshop according to the
following aspects:
X Insight into the technical requirements
of M2M data transfer
X M2M hardware typing and consideration
of quality points: module, application,
interaction with the cellular network
X Derivation of approaches for the application/module
communication and the
SIM-ME communication
Workshop M2M across the world
M2M – Trends & Technologien
M2M – Trends & Technologies
miteinander verbunden.
M2M has the potential to connect billions of machines within the next years. These
machines are linked together by a combination of sensors, next generation mobile
communications technologies, middleware, and applications.
Damit können zuverlässig Informationen in
Echtzeit zwischen diesen Geräten ausgetaucht
werden. M2M ermöglicht vertikalen
Marktteilnehmern, neue Umsatzquellen zu
erschließen sowie Prozessoptimierungen
und Kostenreduktionen vorzunehmen.
Technologische Plattform
Mobilfunktechnologien nehmen hierbei als
„Enabler“ (technischer Wegbereiter) eine
Schlüsselfunktion für M2M-Anwendungen
ein. Mit über 5,5 Milliarden Teilnehmern
hat sich die Mobilkommunikation innerhalb
kürzester Zeit zur weltweit größten technologischen
Plattform entwickelt. Weltweit
nutzen mehr als 1,3 Milliarden Teilnehmer
3G- bzw. UMTS-Technologien (sowie deren
Weiterentwicklung) mit mobilem Breitband-Internetzugang
und es wird erwartet,
Mobilfunk als wesentlicher Treiber von M2M Anwendungen.
Mobile communications as enabler of M2M applications.
40 M2M Journal 09 | M2M Summit – Special Edition | 09/11
dass die Teilnehmerzahl im Jahre 2015 auf
3,1 Milliarden ansteigen wird (Quelle: Wireless
Intelligence, April 2011).
Übertragungstechnologien
Um die Zukunftsfähigkeit von M2M-Anwendungen
zu gewährleisten, sind bezüglich
der Konnektivität M2M-Module unabdingbar,
die mehrere Übertragungstechnologien
vereinen, d.h. multimodefähig sind.
Zudem sollten sie eine Vielfalt von Frequenzbändern
unterstützen und rückwärtskompatibel
mit bestehenden Technologien
sein. Auch alle Anforderungen in Bezug auf
höhere Datenraten, kleinere Abmessungen
sowie steigenden Integrationsgrad bei minimalem
Stromverbrauch sind unbedingt
zu erfüllen. Genau in diesem Technologiesektor
arbeitet Qualcomm besonders in-
Standardisierung
Branchenübergreifende M2M-Standards
stellen einen weiteren kritischen Erfolgsfaktor
dar: Sie gewährleisten eine globale
Verbreitung, die Erreichung von Größenvorteilen
sowie Kostenreduzierungen. Die
Bausteine von M2M-Lösungen sind längst
vorhanden, jedoch müssen Partnerschaften
entlang der Wertschöpfungskette gebildet
werden, um auf Basis der jeweiligen
Kernkompetenzen den gewünschten M2M-
Dienst bereitzustellen.
Außerdem ist bei der Standardisierung
zu beachten, dass die Kommunikationsanforderungen
vieler M2M-Anwendungen
grundlegend anders sind, als bei Telefonie
oder Web-Browsing: Der Datenaustausch
kann meist in Zeiten geringer Netzauslastung
erfolgen und Daten mehrerer Quellen
können zunächst gesammelt und dann in
größeren Einheiten übertragen werden.
Diese neue Kommunikationsart erfordert
Standards, die M2M-spezifische Datenübertragung
so festlegen, dass eine sehr
große Anzahl von Geräten mit hoher Effizienz
bedient werden kann. Momentan sind
Bemühungen im Gange, M2M-Standards
global einheitlich festzulegen, was als
Schlüssel zur Reduktion der Markt-Fragmentierung
angesehen wird.
M2M enables real-time information exchange
between devices. It allows vertical
market participants to generate new revenue
streams as well as process improvements
and cost reductions.
Technological platform
Mobile communications technologies play
a significant role as enabler of M2M applications.
With over 5.5 billion subscribers,
mobile communications has become the
world's largest technology platform within
a very short time. There are more than 1.3
billion mobile broadband subscribers using
3G / UMTS technologies (and its evolution)
and it is expected that the number of
subscribers will be increasing to 3.1 billion
by 2015 (source: Wireless Intelligence, April
2011).
Communications technologies
Multimode modules combining several mobile
data technologies are essential in order
to deliver future-proof M2M applications.
These modules should also support multiple
frequency bands (multiband) and be
backward compatible with existing technol-
ogies. Additional requirements like higher
data rates, smaller size, increased integration,
and minimum power consumption
are also important to be met. Qualcomm is
working intensively in this technology sector
in co-operation with network operators,
handset and module manufacturers, service
providers, and infrastructure suppliers.
In addition, Qualcomm is one of the leading
members in the standardization of these
technologies.
Mobile broadband technologies like
HSPA / HSPA+ and LTE provide furthermore
a variety of advantages like high reliability
(the life cycle of such a module can exceed
10 years), high capacity and bandwidth
with respect to future applications, and low
latency. Finally, the total cost of ownership
(“TCO”) compared to a pure 2G data module
(based on GPRS or EDGE) is much lower.
Standardization
Cross-industry M2M standards are vital for
global distribution, for achieving economies
of scale and for reducing costs. The building
blocks of M2M solutions are already available,
but partnerships have to be formed
Workshop M2M across the world
along the value chain to be able to provide
the required M2M services based on the respective
core competencies.
It is important to flag out that the communication
needs of many M2M applications
are fundamentally different from telephony
and Web browsing requirements: The data
exchange can often take place during periods
of low network load and data from multiple
sources can first be collected and then
transferred in larger units. This new form of
communication requires standards defining
the M2M specific data transfer so that a very
large number of devices can be operated
with high efficiency. Currently, efforts are
underway for establishing uniform global
M2M standards which is seen as a critical
success factor to reduce market fragmentation.
Service levels review
Customers interested in M2M solutions
should first critically review any service
levels or SLAs provided to them. Because
there often are considerable differences
between the formulations of the various
providers as regards the quality, scope
and legally binding character of the commitments
contained therein.
The providers of M2M technology, in
turn, may thus use the auspicious chance
to gain a – possibly even crucial – competitive
advantage by providing adequate
and customized service levels.
Lösungen für die Machine-to-Machine
(M2M) Kommunikation mittels
Mobilfunkverbindungen gewinnen
immer mehr an Bedeutung.
Solutions for Machine-to-Machine
(M2M) communications via cellular
connections are becoming more and
more important.
Die Mobilfunk-basierte M2M-Kommunikation
ermöglicht Überwachungs- und Steuerungsaufgaben
von geographisch verteilten
technischen Prozessen, die außerhalb
des Anschlussbereiches von drahtgebundenen
Kommunikationsnetzen liegen.
Problemsituation
Die entwicklungsbegleitende Qualitätssicherung
von M2M-Komponenten und
M2M-Anwendungen erfolgt heute üblicherweise
unter ausschließlicher Nutzung
der vorhandenen realen Mobilfunknetze.
Durch die in realen Netzen auftretenden
Schwankungen in den Netzbedingungen,
wie Empfangsfeldstärke oder Nutzeranzahl,
lassen sich Testbedingungen nur
sehr schwer reproduzieren. Wenn man zusätzlich
bedenkt, dass sich die einzelnen
Darstellung der Übertragungskette
Illustration of the transmission chain
Netze ebenfalls in ihren Parametern unterscheiden
und man die Funktionsfähigkeit
in einer Vielzahl von Mobilfunknetzen
gewährleisten möchte, vergrößert sich die
Anzahl aller zu untersuchenden Fälle nochmals
erheblich. Dadurch ist eine Qualitätssicherung
unter ausschließlicher Nutzung
der realen Netze nicht ausreichend.
Lösungsansatz
Ein Lösungsansatz besteht darin, eine
Testumgebung zu schaffen, die die gesamte
Übertragungskette unter Laborbedingungen
nachstellen kann. Hierzu
gehören neben der M2M-Komponente als
Prüfling, das Mobilfunksystem und das Internet,
sowie der Datenintegrationspunkt.
Hierzu hat das Institut für Industrielle Informationstechnik
(inIT) der Hochschule
Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Lemgo eine neuartige
Labortestumgebung für die entwicklungsbegleitende
Qualitätssicherung von
M2M-Anwendungen geschaffen. Mit dieser
Messumgebung, bestehend aus einem
Weitverkehrsnetz- und einem Mobilfunkemulator
mit entsprechender Steuersoftware,
stehen nun erstmalig reproduzierbare
Testmöglichkeiten auch für kleine
und mittlere Unternehmen aus dem M2M-
Umfeld zur Verfügung. Die in diesen Test-
szenarien genutzten Parameter reichen
dabei von grundlegenden physikalischen
Netzparametern, wie die verwendeten
Frequenzen und Codierungsschemata, bis
hin zur Regelung der Empfangsfeldstärke.
Durch das Emulieren einer zweiten Mobilfunkzelle
können ebenfalls Situationen,
wie das dauerhafte Roaming zwischen
zwei Zellen getestet werden. Weiterhin
können verschiedenste Effekte, wie Paketverluste,
Verzögerungen etc., die einem
IP-Paket auf dem Weg durch das Internet
widerfahren, nachgestellt werden.
Ergänzt wird das Testsystem durch automatisiert
betriebene Datengeneratoren
und – analysatoren, die die Qualität der
Datenübertragung aus Sicht der Anwendung
bewertbar machen.
Vorteil für M2M Hersteller
Vor dem Hintergrund, dass Hersteller von
M2M-Komponenten häufig kleine und mittlere
Unternehmen sind und nicht über spezielles
Testequipment verfügen, wird mit
diesem neuen Dienstleistungsangebot ein
wichtiger Beitrag zur Qualitätssicherung
von M2M-Produkten und M2M-Anwendungen
erbracht. Aber auch Anwender können
von der Testumgebung profitieren, in dem
M2M-Komponenten in einem Benchmark
objektiv vergleichbar werden.
The cellular-based M2M communication allows
monitoring and control of geographically
distributed technical processes that
aren’t covered by wired communication
networks.
Problem definition
The development related quality assurance
procedures of M2M components
and applications commonly facilitate only
real existing mobile networks. Due to the
fluctuations that occur in real networks
in the network conditions, such as signal
strength or number of users, it can be very
difficult to create reproducible test conditions.
In addition, if one considers that the
individual cellular networks also differ in
their parameters and you want to ensure
the operability in a variety of mobile networks,
the number of the examined test
cases increases significantly. A quality
assurance under the exclusive use of real
networks is therefore not sufficient.
Approach
One approach is to create a test environment
that can reproduce the entire trans-
„Internet of Things“
mission chain under laboratory conditions.
This includes the M2M component
(device under test), the cellular communication
system, the Internet and the data
integration point.
To achieve this, the Institute for Industrial
Information Technology (inIT),
Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied
Sciences in Lemgo, has developed
a new laboratory test environment for
development related quality assurance
control of M2M applications and components.
With this measurement environment,
consisting of a wide-area network
and a mobile emulator with appropriate
control software, reproducible test opportunities
for small and medium-sized
companies in the M2M oriented environment
are now made available for the
first time. The parameters used in these
test scenarios range from basic physical
network parameters such as frequencies
and encoding schemes, to control of signal
strength. By emulating a second cell,
special situations, such as the permanent
roaming from one cell to another,
can also be tested. Furthermore, it is
possible to emulate various effects, such
as packet loss, delay, etc., that might affect
an IP packet on the way through the
Internet. The test system is supplemented
by automated data generators and
– analyzers that enable the assessment
of data transmission quality from an application
point of view.
Advantages for M2M developers
Given the fact that producers of M2M components
are often small and medium enterprises
without special test equipment
at their hands, this new test service offer
is an important contribution to quality assurance
of M2M products and M2M applications.
Users can also benefit from the
test environment using it as a benchmark
for M2M components.
Often the question arises: “Must I have an M2M device that is assembled from several
CE-certified components checked and certified?”
Regularien. Beispiel: Die Norm EN 300 342-
1 legt fest, welche Grenzwerte in Bezug auf
Emission und Störfestigkeit erreicht werden
dürfen und unter welchen Bedingungen
(z.B. Senden, Empfangen oder Leerlauf)
diese Bestand haben müssen.
Standardprüfungen
Folgende Fragen stellen sich sehr häufig in
diesem Zusammenhang:
X Was schickt das M2M Terminal über
das Netz?
X Was können die erzeugten elektromagnetischen
Felder bewirken?
Oder praktisch formuliert:
X Stört der Fernseher?
X Geht der Scheibenwischer des vorbeifahrenden
Autos an?
Performance-optimierende
Prüfungen
Neben diesen regulatorischen Anforderungen
kommt das Feld der „performance-
optimierenden“ Prüfungen hinzu. Hier
stellen sich Fragen wie:
X Wie reagiert das Gerät bei Starkregen?
X Was bewirken Temperaturschwankungen?
X Welche Auswirkung hat kontinuierliche
Vibration?
Genau diese Zusammenhänge können mit
Hilfe von Prüfungen, die auf das jeweilige
Produkt, das Umfeld und den entsprechenden
Einsatzort abgestimmt sind, sehr realitätsnah
simuliert und betrachtet werden.
Zusammengefasst bietet die Kombination
der hier beschriebenen Prüfungen den
idealen Ansatz um ein M2M Produkt sicher
und vor allem nachhaltig erfolgreich einsetzbar
zu machen.
The answer is clearly “yes”, since the following
is true: CE + CE ≠ CE.
In one such case clearly defined rules are
effective. For example: the standard EN
300342-1 determines what limits may be
reached in terms of emissions and interference
resistance, and under what conditions
(e.g. sending, receiving or idling)
these must persist.
Standard tests
The following questions are very frequently
raised in this context:
X What does the M2M terminal send over
the network?
CE + CE ≠ CE
Testaufbau in EMC Testumgebung.
Test setup in an EMC test environment.
X What effects can the generated electromagnetic
fields have?
Or, stated more practically:
X Is the TV disrupted?
X Does it turn on the windshield wipers of
cars passing by?
X Or, to mention an extreme example
here: How does a pacemaker react?
It is precisely these effects that should
persuade manufacturers to have their
devices independently tested, and also
to secure themselves in advance against
subsequent damages that can be associated
with substantial claims or, in the
worst case, irreparable damages.
Performance-optimizing tests
In addition to these regulatory requirements
the field of “performance-optimizing”
tests is added. This raises such
questions as:
X How does the unit react to heavy rain?
X What effect do temperature fluctuations
have?
X What impact does continuous vibration
have?
Exactly these connections can be very realistically
simulated and considered with
the help of tests that are tailored to the
particular product, the setting and the
corresponding application site.
In conclusion, the combination of the
tests described here offer the ideal approach
to make an M2M product safe and
above all sustainably successful in its
use.
