To inspect and evaluate the 1 Hz EEG
responses from release to safe arrival
at home, the flight tracks were digitally
magnified (Figures 6a-f).
Surprisingly, though, while displaying
individual data-points with universally
high EEG activity at release, the particular
track-magnification chosen also
revealed a fully unexpected but persisting,
common, novel feature of stabilized
individual pigeon flight:

After a somewhat shaky start (Figure
7), regular undulations began spontaneously,
independent of EEG activity
(red=high; blue=low). This phenomenon
was observed throughout all 19 pigeon
flights, both out over the open sea (Figure
8) and over land, persisting even
when criss-crossing roads and aquaducts
(Figure 9), and after finding and following
the Fiume Arrone (river), which
seems their favorite path home (Figure
10). Such undulations were independent
of EEG-activity and geographical challenges.

Discussion
To develop a plausible explanation for
this surprising phenomenon, we first
briefly review some pertinent clinical
and experimental observations.
