2010 wurde eine hintersinnige Ode auf Griechenland
gesungen. Ein kleiner Dank dafür, dass es uns in die
Euro-Krise gestürzt und damit gezwungen hat, noch
mal neu über Sinn und Unsinn EU-Europas nachzudenken.
2011 waren der Ausgangspunkt der „European
Blind Dates“ vier junge Manager auf dem Weg
nach Oben. Und die engagieren sich auch noch für
Gerechtigkeit und Umwelt? Vier junge Autoren
konnten das kaum glauben und machten sich auf den
Weg, um herauszufinden, wie die jungen Führungskräfte
leben und arbeiten, was sie dazu motiviert,
„responsible leadership“ umzusetzen. Die vier Autoren
– in ihren Heimatländern bekannte Journalisten
– haben ihre Eindrücke in literarisch-journalistischen
Texten festgehalten.
2010 saw the singing of a cryptic ode to Greece: a
small gesture of thanks for plunging the Euro into
crisis and thereby forcing everyone to take another
look at the pros and cons of the European Union.
“European Blind Dates” were the starting point in
2011: four young managers on their way to the top.
Could they really be committed to social justice and
environmental protection? Four young authors set
out to find out how these captains of industry and
finance actually lived and worked, and what sparked
their devotion to “responsible leadership”. All
four writers - well-known journalists in their home
countries – collected their impressions in form of
literary-journalistic essays.

e.V.. Und natürlich stehen auch hinter solch einem
Projekt begeisterte Europäer: Präsident des Vereins
ist Wolfgang Klein, seit Jahrzehnten europa-umtriebig
und derzeit Redaktionsleiter der politischen
Talkshow Maybrit Illner. Künstlerischer Berater ist
der slowakische Schriftsteller Michal Hvorecký –
2005 in Deutschland noch recht unbekannt, zählt er
mit mittlerweile zwei auch in Deutschland veröffentlichten
Romanen (ein dritter steht kurz bevor)
zu den literarischen Shootingstars. Köpfe also, die
auch in den nächsten Jahren nicht aufhören werden,
Europa neu zu denken.
Young Euro Connect ist gefördert worden von der
BMW Stiftung Herbert Quandt, dem Europäischen
Parlament und der Robert Bosch-Stiftung.

people behind this project are highly enthusiastic
Europeans. The Chairman of the Association is
Wolfgang Klein, whose vigorous commitment to
the European cause goes back decades. He’s also
Editor-in-Chief of one of the most popular current
affairs programmes on German TV: the Maybrit
Illner Talk Show. The project’s artistic consultant is
the Slovakian author Michal Hvorecký. As recently
as 2005, Hvorecký was little known in Germany.
But since then he’s exploded onto the literary scene
thanks to the publication of two impressive novels
(with a third currently on the way). Serious thinkers,
therefore, who in the years to come will also remain
passionately committed to re-thinking Europe.
Young Euro Connect has received support from the
BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, the European
Parliament and the Robert Bosch Foundation.
